Nikosi Mnguni, King of the Bantu, overseer of great wealth, was the king who was destined to rule all of southern Africa. He had already brought together the six tribes of the Ndebele people, and had an empire that stretched from one sea to the other.
But this was not good enough. There were still vast amounts of unexplored land that could be brought into the kingdom. In these vast lands, there were untold resources that would increase the wealth and power of the Great Zimbabwe.
Ndebele scouts had told of vast herds of elephants to the north. The Maasai and Samburu peoples in these lands were also without king and ruler, and early contact showed that they were friendly to the Ndebele.
So it would be. The borders of Great Zimbabwe would move north, and bring these tribes and great herds into the Great Kingdom.
Closer to home, there was news of a different sort. A large ship had been seen sailing off the coast of the Kingdom. This ship was from a far away land, and when they anchored to re-supply the people on board spoke in a curious language. They also looked very different than what normal people look like, as their skin was quite pale.
Prepared for the worst, a contingent of warriors met this ship as the strangers landed. But there was nothing to fear. Even if they had had weapons, they were far too weak to use them. They were hungry, and a closer look at their ship showed much damage to the sails.
We fed them and brought them some millet beer. After a few weeks they had revived, and with our help repaired their ship. It was then that they brought to shore some of the cargo they were carrying, and in exchange for some elephant tusks gave us a grand quantity of the most beautiful beads made from a material never seen before.
They really seemed to like the ivory and told us that it was quite valuable where they were from. In the rough common language that had developed over the weeks they were with us, they informed us that they would be back in many months with more beads, and asked us if we would have more tusks.
