Funeral Procession in Medina

In sad news, today it was announced that the Caliph Khalid walud Ishak walud Ibrahim al-Fulani has passed away in his sleep. The late Caliph expanded our glorious nation, by liberating Afghanistan and integrating Iran into the realm. The Caliph was criticized for his Declaration on the Rights and Conditions of the Return of the Diaspora, which many considered too lenient. There had even been whisperings that some high ranking officers had been considering a coup, until the Declaration was rendered moot by the establishment of the Jewish homeland in the Gold Coast. He was also criticized for his stance during the Red Scare, when he banned Communist and Socialist parties as subversive, even going to the point to offer support to anti-communist movements.

Others remember him as a man who strived to lead a large nation fairly, reaching out to all in his realms. He also kick started the rapid industrialization underway in Medina. However you remember him, it is undeniable that his influence has had a tangible effect on the Caliphate.

His son, Matta walud Khalid walud Ishak has assumed control of the Caliphate, claiming the titles Caliph of Medina, Successor to the Prophet, Commander of the Faithful, and Shah of Iran. Matta is an active member of the Medinan Nationalist Party, which has worried many in the ruling Upholders of the Message party, which has held power since the adoption of the modified Constitution of Medina. Caliph Matta also split the title of Caliph between Successor to the Prophet and Caliph, possibly demonstrating he will hold a more secular authority. It is unknown whether these predictions will ring true, however.

1895

War! Revolution! Struggle for Freedom! Liberty! As far as the Kan was concerned, these were the pathetic buzz-words of an organisation that was in way over its head. Pests! Rebels! Traitors! Much better.

It didn’t help the ‘revolutionary cause’ that their leader, one Vladimir Lenin, appeared to be simply another ideological youth. At 28 years old, he could hardly call upon a lifetime of experience. He was, however, fiercely intelligent and a strong supporter of the Marxist movement that was sweeping the world. For now, that would be enough to inspire others to fight for him.

Lenin, 1895

As far as the Russian aristocracy and leadership were concerned, he was just some foul-hearted child who had read too much into the ‘glory’ of communism when he was at university. They had all met one in their lives, most had the sense to grow out of it rather than lead an armed revolution.

For the Russian government there could be only one solution - extermination of the entire movement. For the first time in decades the Russian army would see combat. The First and Second Russian Armies marched west, supported by the Second Ukrainian Army. Overkill? Possibly, but as far as the Kan was concerned the communists had been shown far too much mercy and leniency in the past. This rebellion would be crushed, its spirit crushed, its leaders hanged if they were too afraid to die in battle.

That would not be the end of it. To pre-empt any second uprising, the communist movement would be crushed on the civilian front. Communists were banned from government positions, and the Third Section was authorised to use any methods they deemed necessary in dealing with possible communist sympathisers and groups, no matter how harsh. Communism would not survive in Russia.

1898

Poland burned.

The Kan’s armies, overconfident and thinking that wiping out Lenin’s armies required no more than marching west and shooting at an unorganised rabble, were defeated in straightforward engagement on the Podlaskie Plain. Aware of the inevitable Russian counter-attack, communist cavalry units moved into Russia and struck at the military supply lines, forcing a withdrawal of the Ukrainian army to deal with the logistical crisis.

The battle itself was relatively straightforward, and deteriorated into a simple slugging match for victory. Weakened by inexperienced leaders and virtually no supplies or reinforcements, the Russian armies failed to make an impact on the dedicated revolutionaries. Three weeks of hard fighting forced the First Russian Army into retreat, and the Second Russian Army was virtually eradicated and ultimately dissolved.

Russian loyalists in retreat

The victory resulted in armed uprisings across western Russia, as communist groups in the Baltic states and the Ukraine began attacking Russian forces. For the Russian government, the defeat at Podlaskie was simply a wake-up call - this revolution had a force to be reckoned with, but they had awoken the military might of the entire nation…

All of France is in uproar! The Dreyfus Affair was discovered in 1895 originally maintained and kept in secrecy, mostly because of the on going World's Fair. However, on in June of 1897, Ferdinand Walsin Esterhazy leaked the news to the public, and his real role was discovered. Many found disfavor in the French Government! Felix Faure managed to stay popular when things began to fall apart, however, the military began to see a slight purge. When news that Alfred Dreyfus was not found guilty of treason, despite the public opinion that he was guilty, reached the public, mass protests agianst the government began. Much of the military saw itself fall apart. Many even called for war with Germany. Late in 1897, it was discovered that Ferdinand Esterhazy was in fact a spy for the newly formed German Republic! Why he leaked the news of the affair is unknown though. His trial was quick though, and he is currently sentenced to life imprisonment in northern Greenland.

Felix Faure saw the German Republic as a potential ally, although they seemed to find Communism acceptable. He refused to push for a declaration of war, despite the large public opinion in favor of doing so. However, the parliamentary elections in January 1898 pushed the war faction to 62%. On April 26, 1898, parliament declared war on the German Republic, overriding Felix Faure's veto. Refusing to be a part of the war, Felix Faure resigned the next day, making his fellow National Liberal, Prime Minister Émile Loubet, the next president of France. He was however a member of the warmongering faction, and the national election, held 3 months later, on July 28, 1898, elected him to a six year term. The British Republic, the Scottish Republic, the Roman Repubic, and the Lowland Republic, all joined France in the war.

Alfred Dreyfus, however, was reinstated into the French Army, after the overwhelming evidence showed that he was innocent, and that Ferdinand Esterhazy had framed him. He currently is once again serving as an artillery captain, somewhere on the front lines.

300px-Flag_of_Germany_%28state%29.svg.png

All the freedom-loving people of Germany denounces this treacherous action by France. The French did not even to attempt to settle this misunderstanding through diplomatic channels. This is nothing more than a shameless expansionist war of aggression against a peaceful weaker neighbour to distract public opinion from France's own internal strife and further French military dominance over the European continent and over the world.

Germany has done absolutely nothing to provoke this declaration of war. Ferdinand Esterhazy is not working for the German Republic in any capacity, though we do suspect that he is involved with underground Hungarian nationalist organisations, seeking to destroy the democratic government of the German Republic with the help of foreign support. We accuse the French media with the connivance of the French government of running anti-German propaganda to turn public opinion against Germany.

This latest French aggression towards a hitherto friendly nation exposes the lie of French pretension to the leadership of the free world. That France should feel it proper to so readily send its young men to war against another democracy, one which has so recently struggled to free itself from the clutches of feudal tyranny, without even attempting to resolve the conflict diplomatically, shows that in the end the French government only ever cares about the selfish interests of its own ruling imperialist elite, and none for the people of other nations or even the wellbeing of its own people.

We call on the nations of the world to support Germany in her fight for democracy and independence. We call the members of the Accord to refuse to support France in her sad, stupid, self-serving and morally-bankrupt venture, and to pressure France to come to the negotiating table. Germany is always willing to negotiate, and resume normal diplomatic relations with France should it revoke its declaration of war. However, if even one French soldier violate the sacred German fatherland, then we shall use every means at our disposal to protect our land, our people and our democratic republic. We shall make you fight for every inch of German soil.

Opening Ceremonies at the Athens 1896 Olympics
King Mswati had never been prouder of his nation than he was today. Not only had the great Kingdom of Swaziland ascended to become one of the great super powers of the world, but it had also proven itself a worthy competitor at the first ever Olympic games held in Athens.

The King new that his people had the ability to compete and he had hoped that the Kingdom would do well, but even he did not expect the good fortune that was bestowed upon his athletes. Swaziland had won twelve medals, seven of which were for first place!

The Kingdom would continue to support future Olympic Games, regardless of where they would be held, but the King was especially hopeful that the next Games would be held in the beautiful city of Xi’an. Perhaps some day the games would be held in Mbabane in the heart of Swaziland. The King thought this was such a good idea in fact, that he directed his lieutenants to explore the process for nominating a city for future games. Perhaps 1904 would be Swazi.

But enough about games. While they bring the Kingdom honor and prestige, they were a distraction. The Kingdom of Swaziland was one of the premier industrial nations on the planet, yet some territories were more developed than others. The King knew that each and every province of his vast Kingdom had great potential to be strong and rich. Some of these territories had already completed their industrialization plans, but others were still operating at less than full capacity.

The King directed his territory managers to industrialize as much as possible to ensure the continued strength of the Kingdom. No exception was to be made. Every province, no matter how new to the Kingdom, was to be developed. There were no second class citizens in this Kingdom. A resident of the newly acquired territory of Brazil was now just as much Swazi as a resident of Mozambique or Zambia. Everybody deserves to have the same standard of living and opportunities, regardless of where in the Kindgom they live.

The King also enacted a change in the laws that governed the oversight of the territories. Previously it was very hard for a citizen in one part of the Kingdom to move to another part. With this new change in the law, any citizen was free to travel to any other part of the Kingdom. The King also established a policy of allowing citizens from other less fortunate nations emigrate to the great Kingdom.

The New Tawantinsuyo Republic

Due to the massive popularity of his actions in his first term, Juan Carranza easily won the elections of 1897. At his inauguration speech, he promised withing he next year, communism will cease to exist in Tawantinsuyo. This was received with a large increase in public support, still blaming the communist for their loss in the war. Former members of the Communist Party were angered at this, and launched protests and violent attacks, often put down by the military.

Initial 48 hour: Declaration of War - Cutoff

New Declarations of War
France versus Germany

As Germany has no allies currently who signed up in this initial 48 hour period or earlier turns, he must fight alone this turn. So no response DoW's can now be accepted.

Commentary
This declaration of war has taken the world by surprise, as here was a new democracy with similar ideals as to France, i.e. peoples rights, now been attacked for no other reason than some unfounded trumped up charge of espionage by Germany, which they have denied.

It would seem this belligerence, is really without merit on an essentially neutral nation, who has done nothing except stand in the way of France's territorial ambitions. It would seem that there must be some kind of shadowy government working behind the scenes, of a so-called social-liberal democracy, where imperialist aims are still harboured and supported.

Only time will tell what will happen now.

As the turn of the century approached in Librulstan, some large changes were under way. The women's rights movement was gaining more and more support, and more local areas passed some laws in their favor every month. Large-scale support for an amendment to the Constitution now existed, and several different ideas for a Women's Rights Amendment were already circulating through Congress. It would not be long now.

President Gordon Sanchez, in the meantime, announced the final steps of a massive program to improve the economy to maximum efficiency were under way, and tons of it would be used to help fund education and science.

Long Live Canada - Vive le Canada

International Affairs Briefing

Canada is shocked by France's surprise Declaration of War against Germany, who has only just thrown off its shackles of Monarchy and rejected Communism, by setting up a social-liberal democratic government for the people. We are at a loss to understand the reason why so much bloodshed must now be shed between two essentially democratic nations.

We humbly ask that France withdraws its declaration of war on Germany for the sake of the peoples of both nations. France and Germany could hold a conference to determine the validity of the "espionage charges", which appears to be the centre of the disagreement. And being democratic nations, we see no reason to not hold these discussions and avert all out war. We offer our lovely city of Montreal to host these talks and hope a resolution can be reached.

Canada is also saddened that France is possibly losing its prestige within the world. This Declaration of War has also appeared to have turned the world against France, so soon after hosting a World Fair and Olympic conference, where at one point Paris was even being considered for as a host. Even Canada, France's loyal sponsored nation has now withdrawn its support of Paris as the host nation, as France was not keen, and now votes for one of Xi'an cities to host it.

We are also concerned with the disasters afflicting Shanghai and Ethiopia and offer some relief for them as well.

Internal Affairs Briefing

With its neutrality assured with the Canadian Neutrality Treaty commencing in 1898, we can now keep up our industrialisation program. As per the constitution that no one province is more important than the other each is developed equally.
