Iron and Blood - Game Thread

Hawaiian newspapers are reporting a speech made recently.

December 23, 1898

Hawaiians! Rise up! Fire and foes, we must rise up! Today is the day that this Californian tyranny must be abolished, it must be thrown into the sea, for our people cannot take it anymore! They invaded, we resisted. We fought hard. But the end of the war is not the end of the battle. It was only the beginning. We must fight for our rights, for our freedoms, for our country! California comes in here at the whim of their leader, and says these islands are theirs after 12 hard, long, years of fighting by our brave men and women. This must not be allowed.

It is not only their soldiers they have brought over from their vile mainland. It is also their bloodthirsty secret police, their monstrous corporations, and their evil governors. We have stood by for the past 5 years exactly to this day, and watched as these elements of Californian society have infiltrated every corner of our society and our way of life. Their secret police drag whats left of our young men to pits and torture them, then they bury them alive, never to be seen again. How many of us have lost a father, a brother, even the occasional sister to these methods? other times, we see them silently burn a house to a ground, if the people there had been too outspoken.

Their corporations have come and set up shop here, building massive factories in which to enslave our peoples for their own needs. We see no fruit of these factories! We work for 20 hours a day, everyone that reaches the age of 4 up to those so old they can barely walk! And what do we get? A meal or two, and a few pennies. Some clothes to put on to look nice whenever a mainland inspector comes along. And what does the governor-general do? He sits in his cozy office, with his cozy girls, and turns a blind eye towards all these activities.

And as if that wasnt enough, our islands are being polluted, our fields overrun, our children dying of the poisoned air. Anyone nor pure Californian is treated like dirt. We are treated horribly, in our own homeland that has been unjustly taken from us! It is time for this to end. We must throw these invaders into the sea from whence they came! They must suffer as we have done, their companies must go replaced with humane Hawaiian ones, and their secret police must most of all be eradicated.

Vertigo! Hawaii! Freedom! Execute Vertigo!

- The resistance leader known only as 'Eagle'

Also reported was
The ping of bullets sounded throughout the pineapple and sugarcane fields as a group of around 6 rebels opened fire on a patrol of Hawaiian soldiers on a road that split the field.

"Vertigo! Vertigo!" came the cry from the rebels, deceiving the enemy that they were in one spot when they were in fact already far from it. In this way the group managed to pick off 8 of the 12 men in the patrol within a minute, having the patrol wasting its ammo on imaginary and disappearing targets.

One rebel, a young woman of about five and a half feet tall and looks that signified an age of mid twenties managed to snag 3 of these kills as she hurried from spot to spot, taking a careful shot at each as the group of rebels continually shifted to avoid being shot.

"Staza behind you!"

One of the men shouted to the lone woman in the group, and as she turned she managed to see another patrol of 12 soldiers coming up behind them. they were almost a quarter of a mile away already, and closing at a sprint. She fingered the detonator in her hands, then clicked its safety and put it back in her pocket as she took another shot at the first patrol. Hit. Now there was but one more.

Soon the sugarcane in the field was trampled about, with little cover so close to the road left, so the group of rebels hit the last man in the shoulder, then backed up slightly to the pineapple fields around 500 meters back for more cover. Shaza watched the progress of the second patrol carefully as they switched to a careful approach, making sure their bayonets were in and their guns loaded as they covered each other advancing. She fingered the detonator. Just as she was about to pushh down one of them exclaimed and pointed to a spot on the road 5 meters in front of him. The group of men began to run back the way they came as fast as they could-but not fast enough.

"Too little, too late" Shaza murmured before pressing the mechanism that detonated 2 kilograms of TNT at the spot the man saw a slight disturbance in the surface of the road. The explosion was quite spectacular, and none of the second patrol survived it. Shaza then rushed forward with her bayonet fixed, into the road where the last man of the first patrol was located.

"Who are you?" He whimpered as he saw her approach.

"Shaza Sha'vena, Colonel in the Vertigo Resistance Forces. And you sir, are our new messenger." She replied in a quiet, almost silent tone.

"I...I dont quite understand-"

"You are to deliver your normal report back to your commander at your base. but you are to add the following message, citing my name as its source:

"Vertigo now means any death committed against a Californian. There shall be so many deaths it will make you dizzy on your feet. The deaths shall not stop until you retreat from our islands. When the control of our islands is handed over to our leader, any hostages we have shall be given back to you, and we shall cease hostilities against the Californian state. VRF will not cease to exist, even if you clamp down on us hard. We are not a group that your secret police can simply wipe out. We are an idea, a sense of patriotism, that is instilled in every living Hawaiian, and you just bred a generation of hatred against yourselves. Groups, people, leaders....they may all die. But patriotism.....patriotism is something that never dies, no matter how long you sit on a people."

"Who are you?" He whimpered again, fear in his eyes.

"Vertigo."

Lights and sirens could be seen approaching in the distance, just as the sun set. Shaza took out a small camera she had scavenged from a couple of bodies in a death pit they had uncovered last week. Snapping a shot of the scene for her memory, she hurried into the fields, followed by her 5 men who had scavenged the bodies of the patrol for weapons and supplies.

What is behind this - Who is this Eagle, this Vertigo. Only time will tell ...

If Vertigo would like to insure the safety of their native Hawaiian citizens they had better quit their terrorism, otherwise all Hawaiian citizens may begin to have fatal accidents until there are no native Hawaiians left. We will not tolerate your insurgency and will keep Hawaii. In a couple years Hawaii will become a state if they wish, and everyone rights will be recognized. Currently there is no military police, nor any secret police as this is a free democracy, but I assure you this will change if your terrorism continues.

You know, Teckno, I don't think threatening terrorists with genocide was ever successful at making them stop.

If there are no Hawaiians to commit terrorism, then it solves the problem. I'll export those that will want to leave to any country across the pacific who will take em though.

Commentary: Californian Newspaper Articles.

The Californian papers are in an uproar, that its leadership is publicly talking about genocide of Hawaiians. Articles are being written with headlines like;
  • What does it mean for them ?
  • Will the Leadership also do something to them if some miscreants cause problems ?
  • Why is a our democracy acting so dictatorial ?
  • Who is behind our leaders causing these actions ?
  • Can we believe our politicians any more ?
  • Ultimately what is to become of us ?

So many questions !!! We are becoming fearful, the people are living in fear.

ANTISIRANANA, Madagascar – While on holiday touring one of the newest cities in his Kingdom, King Mswati made the following statement:

The Kingdom of Swaziland abhors the use of genocide upon any group in this world. It especially condemns these acts when done by nations on the citizens of territories fully within their control.

Swaziland will actively work to prevent genocides from happening anywhere in the world and implores all nations to publicly denounce genocide.

Colombian President Impeached!

Many angry Colombians took to the street last month to demand that their President, Mariano Ospina Pérez, step down. They believe President Pérez is single-handedly responsible for underfunding the nation's hospitals and schools. Some of this is true. President Pérez spent $80,000,000 pesos building factories in the Colombian province of Guiana. The problem is that Guiana does not have the population to support such enormous factories. So the money was wasted and people blame the President. A vote of no confidence was sent to the Congress and they impeached Mariano Pérez. Ashamed, Mr. Pérez was last seen fleeing the country and heading for South Africa. Pérez's Vice-President, Maya Gomez, became interim-president. Gomez was a former intelligence officer and quickly reformed many of the wasteful items on Pérez's former budget. This made her very popular among her Colombian comrades. She became so popular, in fact, that she was elected to office for real this time.

"I do not know what my father saw in these things, exporting them all over the world."

Caliph Matta was being driven around Khafji, a city in the north . Although the car was as luxurious as money could buy, it was still a very bumpy ride, and quite loud. He had gone to inspect the oil wells, but had now returned to a larger city to do some state business and spend the night. Caliph Matta was trying to sign papers in the car, but the jostling prevented him from writing without making large marks. Caliph Matta was not a patient man. He was to sign a document repealing the Rights and Conditions of the Return of the Diaspora; Caliph Matta felt it rather useless, now that there was a Jewish state far off in some other country. Other papers were generally on the state of local governments or the Emirates.

The car came to a stop and the driver spoke. "Sir we have arrived at the place you will be spending the night. I think they are going to send some servants to take your ba-"

The sentence was cut short, as gunfire rang out and the driver collapsed.

Caliph Matta could only open his mouth in shock, before exclaiming "what in the name of-", before he was tackled to the ground by one of his advisors. The Caliph's personal guard began taking of positions and advancing towards the source of the gunfire. The Captain of the Guard came over.

"Captain, what is going on? Why am I being shot at in my own country?" hissed Caliph Matta.

"Sir, i'm sorry, we didn't want to worry you, but we got a tip that this was being planned. We thought we could stop them before it happened, but evidently not" responded Captain Salim walud Omar walud Binyamin al-Awad.

"Who is responsible?"

"They aren't happy with the Caliphate, and they have several reasons. We conquered their homeland, and we banned their political beliefs. They're an Iranian Communist party. They call themselves the 'Party of the Masses of Iran'. We call them the Tudeh."

FRANCE

Soldats_Argonne_2.jpg

French soldiers observing the German border in the short Franco-German War.

Shortly after Emile Loubet took the Presidency, scandal once again rocked the French Government! Not only had the European Republic collapsed, with the French parliament taking over the responsibilities of it, but Felix Faure, discontent with the corrupt state of the French government, exposed the true nature of the Paris government. He showed that the de facto head of the military, Nationalist Chief of Staff Charles Freycinet, had obtained virtually all power concerning Foreign Policy. He had dreams of France conquering the world!

Parliaments vote to declare war had mostly been rigged. Although about 25% of the legislature would have accepted, most of those who voted for it had been forced to do so, influenced by threats from mostly officers loyal to Freycinet. When news of this was exposed, the planned spring offensive for 1899 was called off. Massive protests broke out, and in some poorer areas, such as Portugal and Iceland, riots even began. Parliament, seeing no choice, impeached Emile Loubet, since there was overwhelming evidence that he was a part of the plot, and on December 27, 1898, parliament dissolved the Second Republic of France, agreeing to replace the government with a temporary bi-partisan counsel of 8 members to oversee affairs until a new constitution could be written. The temporary Administrative Counsel consisted of members from each of the three largest parties, 3 National Liberals, 3 Conservatives, and 2 Socialists. It's executive powers were almost as wide ranging as the previous government, but it's legislative powers were restricted to enacting temporary emergency measures in case of crisis. The Courts, always separated from the Government, were not affected, except for trying the corrupt members of the old government for their various crimes.

Soon a constitutional convention was called for France. The National Liberal party had once again split, into the Française First, and the Démocratique-République. However, the Française First soon fell apart, since heavy Nationalism was almost taboo in French society after the recent events. The Conservateur and the Libre Socialiste, as well as the communist Front Populaire was represented. The Fonds Français Pour (ultranationalist) had all but disappeared. Eventually, a constitution was written, that everybody could agree on. It eliminated the military's influence in politics, but keeping the core semi-presidential system, although fixing a few apparent flaws. Presidential terms stayed at 6 years, with a 12 year maximum, and parliament still had the power to call an presidential election after 3 years had passed from the previous one. However, now parliament could not impeach the President, the court system must. Parliament however could bring a case before the courts. The court system was also made a leading central core part of the government.

The President gained more control and restrain over the military. Parliament gained more control and restrain over the President. Ultimately, on August 3, 1899, the Third Republic of France was formed, consisting of Mainland France and Corsica. The various former ER members under it were reorganized. The Lowland Republic remained unchanged, consisting entirely of the Benelux. The Italian Republic was a new addition, consisting of mainland Italy. The Confederated Mediterranean States, consisting of Sicily, Sardinia, and the Balearic Islans was formed. The Republic of Portugal remained unchanged. Spain was reorganized into the Republic of Castile, consisting of the west sections, with its capitol at Madrid. The Republic of Aragon consisted of East Spain, with its capitol at Barcelona. To the North, the Irish Republic remained unchanged, with the Socialists still in power. However, the Republic of Great Britain was formed out of the isle of Britain.

Each of these various republics had their own democratic governments, as well as their own constitutions. They were however part of the French Co-Prosperity Sphere, an alliance administrated by the Third Republic, and the French government retained a high degree of control in the economics of the republics. Domestic affairs were handled entirely by the individual republics government. All foreign affairs are handled by the French Government, however, a defensive pact exists between all members. The Grande Armee was dissolved, with each member now responsible for maintaining their own defensive forces. Membership in the French Co-Prosperity Sphere is hard coded into their constitutions.

President Armand Fallieres, the first President of the Third Republic, and the seventh President of France

The first elections brought Armand Fallières and his Conservateur party into control of the government. He was elected on November 3 and sworn in on November 5, 1899, due to high speed communications making vote counting quick. His first act was signing white peace with Germany, although the war had quickly gone to a stalemate. The military had suffered greatly from the collapse of the government, and was terribly ineffective. He gave a key speech from the Eiffel Tower on January 1, 1900, proclaiming it "Morning in France" and promising a golden century, insuring the populace that the instability of the Second Republic was behind them. Surely this was true. The government began massive investment into the economies of Co-Prosperity Sphere members, finally bringing them up the the standards of France and the Lowlands. Some areas began to see population growth, with the cities of Luxembourg emerging into a major trade center in the Lowland Republic, and the city of Porto emerging as a key industrial center in Portugal.

California must ensure the safety of its citizens and the security of the country therefore this has been enacted.

Any country who actually cares for the Hawaiian people and isn't just trying to make a powerplay should offer refuge to these people or I'll have to dump em all on a deserted island. California will arrange for the transportation.

No, that shows weakness to the Californian bully. We must stand up to California, and not show cowardice in the face of oppression.

What is the point of living if you cannot live free? - The Message of the French Revolution

The revolutionaries had won a victory in Poland, but at what cost? What were they fighting for, and for whose cause? Poland was de facto independent, but Lenin wasn’t fighting for the independence of the many Russian states, he was fighting for communism and a new order for the Russian government. The Polish revolutionaries were simply a tool to be used in his path to power.

Polish soldiers advance into the Ukraine

At the moment, however, his forces appeared to have the upper hand. Across Poland, Russian forces fled eastwards in the wake of the revolutionary victories. ‘Soviet’ groups were declared, all under the banner of Lenin’s leadership.

Across the front-lines, Russian loyalist forces appeared to be crumbling in the wake of Lenin’s offensive. There was some pockets of heroism however. At Brest-Litovsk, loyalist forces held out for several weeks, covering the withdrawal of the First Russian Army. Ultimately they were overwhelmed by the enemy, but their actions bought time for the Russian armies to reorganise.

Victory, of a sort, at Brest-Litovsk

How much of its territory could Russia afford to lose, and how far could it afford the enemy to advance?

Caliph Matta stood in the war room of his palace. It had been a few weeks since the attempt on his life at Khafji, and he was back in his palace. The secret police and the military were busy in the western part of the Caliphate, trying to root out the Tudeh. The Tudeh had kept a low profile for years, making it difficult to track them down.

"Captain Salim, do you have any reports on the Tudeh's activities?"

"Sir, we have almost nothing. The Tudeh is very elusive. However, we sent in operatives to attack one of their suspected bases a few days ago. We are expecting news any minute now" responded Captain Salim.

Suddenly, a man burst into the room. The guards positioned inside immediately took aim at him, but he was a messenger.

"Captain, captain, we've got something! The team discovered a document about the Tudeh in their base!" said the messenger, rather breathlessly.

"Hand it over" said Captain Salim, who took one look at the cover and passed it to the Caliph.

"The Manifesto of the Party of the Masses of Iran" read the Caliph "Amazing. Open it, what does it say?"

Tudeh Manifesto said:

Hezb-e Tudeh Iran
IB_Tudeh_Flag.png

Hezb-e Tudeh Iran is the organization that will save Iran. For too long, we have suffered under the yoke of foreign oppression. First, the Afghans bribed our corrupt leaders, who sold the soul of their people for a few measly coins. When the Afghanistan government collapsed, we were free for a while. Until the damned Caliphate of Medina entered our lands, conquering and killing all it saw. Iran entered into a land ruled by a tyrant monarch, who ruled our lands with an iron fist, and had the audacity to claim the title "Shah", relic of our people's empire.

Not content with ruling our bodies, the Caliph attempted to dominate our minds. Inundating the country with his propaganda, and banning our political beliefs. The Caliphate is corrupt at every level of government, and is a completely illegitimate state. The Caliph rules with no regards to the will of his people. The Caliphate of Medina is beyond saving. It must be dismantled. Iran is willing to lead the charge, spilling blood for the good of workers throughout the country. Hezb-e Tudeh Iran will not stop. We will fight the tyrants above us at every step. People of the Caliphate, you have nothing to lose but your chains. You have your countries to win. Workers of the World, Unite!

"This doesn't seem good." remarked Caliph Matta.

"Sir, it gets worse. There were many of these. The Tudeh had several printing presses there, and piles of these. It stands to reason that there's a lot more in some other stronghold, being distributed. We have little intel on the Tudeh, but we will continue our offensives."

Delivered by ship to a paper in Swaziland to circumvent the recent laws california has put into play:

"We do not want to be shipped from our ancestral homeland to some country who supposedly wants us! We want our homeland back! You come in here and kill our people who valiantly defend against your unjust aggression, then you try and ship us all out! How is that fair? We have a thousands times better claim to these lands than you do!

We also dispute your claim that we have attacked a civilian target. We have done no such thing. Never have we ever targeted a civilian or a civilian building/site, nor do we plan on doing so. This is but one more example of your lying corrupt government. There is hardly any populace of californians on these islands at all except for those you have forcefully brought over here!

You want us to leave these islands? You better fight for it! We will not leave these lands, our ancestral homeland, a homeland that we have every right to control and govern for ourselves, without a fight!

Does the international community refuse to recognize the barbarianism that is taking place on these islands? Isnt this world supposed to be civilized? Stop this atrocity that is taking place! Either we leave our homeland, or we get genocide! Help us in our just twilight struggle!"
