It's not crap, but it's not music either, therefore I voted for the "I don't care" option.

Rap in it's early days - particularly RUN DMC and Beastie Boys were quite good (and still are). NWA I didn't like pretty much for their lyrical content an attitude, seemed all shock and no substance. ICE-T had his moments but he still presented an image back then of the gangster rap - which was a big turn off.

But alas the industry and MTV got hold of it and turned it into commercialized mainstream 'Bling Bling' garbage.

The film CB4 pretty much sums up what RAP has become for me!
Great film but doesn't do RAP any favours. :)

RAP and rap style is becoming all too pervasive and too many dip-****s (EMINEM being the biggest) in American music are getting air time when they should be on the bread line. Att least what I see from the crap I have to endure on music channel.

Which is why I turn to Europa for all my music and power metal needs.:D

I personally love a lot of hip-hop and rap. At the same time, I don't play the "what's crap and what rules" game with music. At best, that attitude is limiting, at worst, elitist. I listen to everything from hard rock to hip-hop to jazz to classical to punk to emo and all the variations therein. Music as an art is amazingly rich in content. To limit yourself to ONE genre of music is, IMHO, simple minded.

I'm not a big fan of rap, but Nas' Illmatic is one of my favourite albums, even though it contains some gangsta/materialism elements.

Course it sucks. Real music has imagination, melody, variation, harmony, and people who can actually sing.

Rap has people who spit into microphones while drug addicts play annoying computer beep loops and drum cycles monotonously in the background.

Two words: lame-o shizzit.

Total amount of rap songs I enjoy listening to: 0! Rap is stupid. the "beats", stupid, the lyrics, stupid, everything about rap, stupid. I especially cannot stand chingy. He is the dumbest hip hop singer or, mc, or WTH ever they're called in the whole wide world. If the news said that he was in a car crash, and lost whatever is required to use his voice, I would be happy. Another stupid rapper is that little punk in B2K. The lead singer dude. He sounds stupid. He has a bada** attitude to. Did you see on punkd when there was some guy yelling in his face about his daughter, and when the B2K guy finds out he was getting punkd, the first thing he says is, "Man, I was about to hit that dude". I lauged so hard when I saw that. If he would have hit that father, he would have got shot. And it wouldn't have been with a "9". Because you can get shot 9 times with one of those things, and still live. (hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha) So they're basicly worthless. That little punka** kid would have got shot with a 12 gauge. And he wouldn't recover, and I would laugh my a** off:) If you want to hear some good music, with people that have talent, then you should listen to country music. Country music has lyrics that actually make sense, and have a message aside from, "I got lots of cars and money, and diamonds in my teeth" (In my opinion, the diamonds in teeth thing makes them look like dumba**', and if you have thousands of dollars to spend on gold fronts with diamonds, then why not spend it on something thats actually important, and won't make you look stupid, like beer.) ,"I will shoot you with my 9" (I very seriously doubt half of these stupid rappers have ever touched a firearm.) ,"I will bang yo b****" (Another thing that they have probably never done, and will never do.) ,"And I buy 1000 dollar bottles of crystal and dump them onto the floor" (Another dumba** thing that rappers do.).

I hates the stuff, but how do you classify bands like rage against the machine?

All the pop-rap is rubbish.

Is rap crap? Is pop music crap? What about country or rock?

Well, as the old adage goes, de gustibus non disputandum est .

I like some of it, rap that is. I don't mind listening to Snoop Dogg, Warren G, or TRU, but that's about it.

I don't like rap. But there's really too much of it on TV. Oh sweet 90s when I could watch MTV without :vomit:

This kinda says it all for me:
Milo: You think you are so cool, don't you? You think you are so cool. But just once, I would like to hear you scream in pain...
Joe Hallenbeck: Play some rap music.

I bet most artists of this genre are amazed at how lucky they are. Take "50 cent" as an example. We're talking about a man who used to be a gun-toting drug dealer and who now makes millions.... mumbling about being a drug dealer and talking about some guys birthday.

I don't want to hear that! :p

Your a big GnR fan right?
What about Mr.Brownstone, did you think that they were singing about a stone mason?;)

I have seen life performances of MC Miker G. and DJ Sven life twice. Of course that is music. You may like it or not, but it is music.

Apart from that: it is true art. I was completely amazed by their performance. Absolutely brilliant!

About the duo: Two guys from The Netherlands. In 2002 they we're honoured as the offical founders of the Euro-House-style, because of their remake of Madonna's "Holiday". The original single of "Holiday Rap" peaked the charts in the summer of 1986.

Although I voted Yes, I have to admit that "Star Wars Gangsta Rap" is one of the best songs ever :goodjob:
