It's announced! You know you want it!

WTH is TES V????

I sincerely do not know

Ahh
I heard about Elder Scrolls, but I never tried it

Damn teaser trailer. Still, its only a few months away (supposedly).

I locked myself in my room over a 3 day weekend for TES4. Beer fridge stocked with pizza and, well, beer. Good times.
any comments, fellow ffhfanatics? ;)
If TES V contains all the challenge and imagination from TES III *plus* that from TES IV... it'll have all the challenge and imagination of TES III.

Which would be good enough.

No one interested in the also-announced Mass Effect 3?

Re. TES5, I'll need to play Oblivion first. I loved Morrowind, but that game ate my life. I'm only playing Oblivion once I have a few weeks off that I don't need to dedicate to anything else. But goodness, the trailer for Skyrim looks great. (And syncs disturbingly well with the ME3 trailer, actually.

I wonder what we're gonna be in jail for this time though. maybe killing all the children in Skyrim? that would kinda explain why there are no children to be found in the whole game

Pretty unimpressive trailer as far as I'm concerned. Just some random shots of stone dragons and warriors, you can do better than that, Bethesda. Sadly, the same can be said of most game developers these days, I really hate this trend of "trailers" made in early dev states, just to build hype, and that reveal nothing at all about the game.

That said, I'll probably play the game since I liked Morrowind and (to some extent) Oblivion.

Gekko > I prefer a game with no children rather than a game full of annoying and unkillable children like what they did in Fallout 3 -_-

isn't that what M'Aiq said? something like "we don't want children around, they would ruin the fun" . good times...

anyway, the next gameinformer cover will be about TES V, which means in about 20 days we will have some screenshot and a good amount of information revealed.

I'm the same. I think Morrowind was probably my favorite RPG of all time, I loved the immersion and realism of the game. I haven't had the courage to try Oblivion yet, I'm waiting for a time warp where I can go a few years and RL stays still.

Best wishes,

give oblivion a try if you're into the RPG genre then ;)

Oblivion is well worth a try !

Bah. Morrowind (TES III) was FAR superior to Oblivion. The graphics were not as pretty, and it lacked a quick move feature, mounts, etc; But really, I disliked the quick move.

Quite honestly, the only things about Oblivion I liked better than Morrowind were the mounts (always wanted one for Morrowind... Long runs, sometimes.), and the graphics. Other things were dumbed down and not improved... For example, the houses. Sure, it's a lot easier to get a house in Oblivion. But in Morrowind, they were rewards for specific factions, and you could watch them be constructed. Much more rewarding.

If TES V contains all the challenge and imagination from TES III *plus* that from TES IV... it'll have all the challenge and imagination of TES III.

My thoughts exactly. If it's a return to Morrowind, I'll spend hundreds of hours on the game.

If it's Oblivion... It's worth renting.

why all the oblivion-hating? I see it literally everywhere. sure, oblivion has many flaws, but morrowind is badly outdated nowadays. the crappy combat system alone is a MAJOR drawback... it can be fixed with modding, but if you wanna get into modding TES then a modded oblivion is FAR superior to a modded morrowind. there's only so much you can do with modding, you can't change the base mechanics. the Radiant AI is underutilized in vanilla oblivion, but install FCOM and suddenly you have a world that feels incredibly alive, with interfaction fights and an amazing diversity in content. Morrowind can't come even near, with its NPCS always standing in place waiting for the player

Oblivion-hating? Disappointment, perhaps. It was not interesting, you did not fall in love with its spirit, so you began noticing everything bad. Saying 'This feature in TESIV is bad and that is a setback' is not the reason, it's justification for not loving. That was my case, personally.

Bit here is a terrible place to start a holywar! I played both games and liked both games, one a little more than the other. But you can never tell which one exactly :p

Oblivion is better for modders, that's granted!

that is true, Oblivion lacked that magical feeling that Morrowind had. it just felt too "normal" if you know what I mean, with the western-style forests and stuff. no real terrain diversity, no magical fungi, no real spirit. shivering isles were great though :)

all you need to make the exploration in oblivion seriously breathtaking is the Unique Landscapes series. with those, you will really want to "let's see what's on the other side of that hill, I'm sure it's gonna be even more aweinspiring scenarios"

I agree with the comment about this being no place for a holywar, so I'll keep this relatively short:

Not true IMO. I *did* have to mod the heck out of Morrowind to get a game I wanted to play, but in this FfHers opinion modding didn't "fix" Oblivion. I'm sure it *could*, given enough changes. Trivially true, of course: Given enough changes it's Pac Man.
But for me the fundamental shift in design philosophy (I wish I could find the link where the devs. discuss it) was too much for me: They pretty much took the game in the opposite direction from what I like.

At least one dev. said Oblivion is the game he always wanted to make. That makes me happier about the whole thing. It's not like it was all some horrible mistake. But Oblivion wasn't at all the game I've always wanted to play.

At least they made so much money off Oblivion that TES V was a shoe-in. Maybe I'll like it better.... and we'll always have Red Mountain.

I liked Morrowind so much I don't begrudge Bethesda the money I "wasted" pre-ordering Oblivion. But I'm going to wait-and-see with Skyrim.

well, care to explain more, Tarq? what is that "opposite direction" they should have taken?

I see no holywar brewing, I think we're all perfectly capable of discussing topic with no namecalling ( unlike the guys on the beth forums :p ) and I value you guys' opinions so I wanna hear em.

if you're talking about "the game is more casual, fast travel, to stamina loss while running etc." then I agree but it doesn't take much to add some realism enhancing mods. same thing for the hand-holding, it's easy to remove the green arrow thingie that makes every quest trivial. Fallout New Vegas has a "Hardcore mode" game option that does exactly this kind of stuff and I think they'll do something similar for TES V. even better would be individual toggable options, like "no fast travel", "hunger" , "thirst" , "hypothermia" etc.

the one big unfixable drawback imho is definitely the fact that its's more action and less rpg. mainly due to the fact that all dialogue is voiced and lip-synched, which means waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay less dialogue than morrowind. I hope for TES V npcs will get the best of both worlds, i.e. voiced lipsynched content for the most important things, and then lots of written text for those who want to dwelve deeper into the RPing. not sure if they're gonna do that though :/
