It's Hot! But Fox Only Talks About Global Warming When It's Snowing

With an unusually intense heat wave sweeping the nation, Fox News has been silent on global warming, which scientists say makes heat waves like this one more likely. By contrast, Fox News repeatedly used winter storms to mock global warming -- one of several problems with Fox's coverage of climate

Most flagrantly, Fox Nation and Fox News personalities Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Gretchen Carlson, Steve Doocy, Stuart Varney, and Eric Bolling all seized upon the February 2010 blizzard to mock Al Gore and suggest that the storm undermines the science supporting global warming. That same winter, Fox News Washington managing editor Bill Sammon ordered the network's journalists to cast doubt on climate change data.

In reality, that winter included "the eighth warmest December" since records began in 1880, the "fourth warmest" January, and the "sixth warmest" February according to global temperature data from NOAA. 2010 tied for the warmest year on record, and 2000-2009 was by far the warmest decade on record.

Over the past week, Fox News has not mentioned human-induced climate change or global warming while reporting on or discussing the current heat wave, according to a search of Snapstream video and Nexis transcripts.

So much for Global cooling ( Bet that FoxNew viewers wont remember that far back anyway).

On a Serious note I do hope were wrong cause it isnt looking good. If a 3 degree increase in temp will wipe out 15% of workable agricultural land.

It's Fox. You don't expect them to report the news. Not when it violates their political agenda.

A news organization has an agenda?

Say it ain't so!

Is the OP commenting that FOX is failing to comment?
I don't think any news organizations are right now.

No, it was climate change for a while. It switches back and forth depending on the data.

That's because climate change is scientifically more accurate than global warming, as the process of global warming may make some certain small areas cooler than before, and the climate change we call global warming constitutes of other factors than the rise of temperature as well. Climate change / global warming also makes extreme weather phenomena, such as huge hurricanes, blizzards, hot summers etc. more common, that's why calling it just "global warming" is a bit inaccurate.

That's because climate change is scientifically more accurate than global warming.../snip/

Yeah. It was an attempt to prevent stupid quibbling over semantics so often used to obfuscate matters.

Of course it didn't work.

So now it's global warming again?

The terms mean the same thing. It's rather disingenuous to to pretend a sentence using different synonyms is saying two different things.

Guys, this is exactly what they've been doing. Instead of debating the actual issue, they scuttle it by debating the naming of things and frame the debate in such a way that since we can't agree on a name, it is obviously not a genuine threat.

How can we believe this will affect humanity if the left can't even keep the name straight?

It's okay, the debate has only been going on for two decades now. There's bound to still be some confusion.

The CO2 causes 'warming', in that it's a greenhouse gas. Of course, the warming is dependent upon other factors as well, so it's not purely a GHG thing. However, because our ecologies and environment is integrated, the consequence of 'warming' is going to be perceived as 'climate change'.

Since it gets warmer and cooler each day, we'd think that 'global warming' wouldn't be a problem except in some areas. I mean, a couple of degrees? No problem! That happens every day.

But the warming causes climate change, and that has knock on effects.

Glad I could help! It's too bad your news sources didn't explain things such that you'd understand. I hope they're not deliberately obfuscating the issue and confusing you. That would really detract from the legitimate debate! The vocabulary really means something!

(and I'm going to follow around economic threads: "Oh, it's about productivity now? I thought it was about excessive taxes! Oh, it's about liberty? I thought it was about productivity!" etc.)

Mods are derailing threads now? :mischief:

Besides, my answers are all consistent: liberty is productive, excessive taxes violate liberty, and so on. :D

Wait, I already knew that.
So, the GHG -> AGW -> Climate Change issue probably deserves reciprocation, eh?

It is very interesting and amusing to watch the Fox News reporting of things be completely wrong... but then I realize it's also sad and I shouldn't be laughing.

Fox does this all the time.

I'm loving the weather, my days have been in the 70s in the middle of summer
