PS. What makes a Treasure Chest disappear? I sent a Hunter across the map to get one, and it disappeared before he got there!

Maybe the AI got to it 1st?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'got to it.'

Once I get the Treasure Chest, whenever an AI unit appears near it I see that unit (I have show Enemy/Friendly moves on). I often see Bears and other animals near the Treasure Chest.

It seems like if I don't get to it within a certain number of turns it disappears.

I went to great lengths to get to one in my current game, nearly crossing the huge map, only to find it EMPTY!:mad:
 
Did your units go on strike maybe? It could have been automatically disbanded during that time if so.

Other alternatives would be that cultural borders expanded and bumped it, but there weren't any tiles very near to it which were valid so it is somewhere considerably farther away. If that is the case, the best way to find it is to hit F5 and look on the list for "Treasure Chest" if it is there, then click on it and the location will blink on the mini-map, click on the blinking dot and it'll zoom to that spot for you.

It's like vanilla goody huts. You AND the AI can both use it. Often the AI will come to a treasure chest before you do. Therefore, the AI steps on it, opens it, and it disappears.

Also, I spose it programmed so 1 or 2 chests are empty. It was the same with goody huts.

Not quite like goody huts, treasure chests are invisible to all other civs...
 
I don't think the AI CAN use it, though. I've played a team game withe my brother and a friend of mine a few times, and I ended up grabbing a treasure chest of my own, and then, since I was right next to it, put my unit on top of his treasure chest. Waited a few turns, even, but there was never and spell button to open it.

Maybe the AI saw it and attacked it?
 
Well, it remains a mystery how a Treasure Chest can disappear.

It was early in a game, so no strikes or wars. The only culprits could have been barb units, but as I said, I saw Bears wandering around it, but they never landed on the Treasure Chest tile.

Also, the invisibility/inability to cast the spell to all others but me make me wonder what happened.

Maybe it can simply 'wear out' over time if you don't get to it?
 
What would be useful, I think, is a way to buy/sell/exchange items. That way you could sell off your excess Torcs or even trade them for Rod or something.

regarding chests... just a minor "gripe" though :lol:
for some reason I'm able to establish contact with other civs on a faraway continent just because a chest I popped, which I haven't even actually set my hands on, which are supposedly invisible to others, "met" with their scouts. ;)

Somewhat like getting contacts with other civs with my HN units lol~
 
I've been working on that one myself. You can give a unit 0 visibility, and it will not reveal even the tile it is standing on. But the issue is that it doesn't allow you to see the unit or select it unless someone else makes the tile visible. I'd really like the chest to still show up for you, but not reveal anything else on the plot. Haven't found where to make that one happen just yet....
 
I love chests. especially Alexis' and Faeryl's... sorry, I just HAD to say that :lol:

well, aside from this I'll have to agree that HN units granting contact with civs is weird.

Make the plot visible (it'll be obscured by fog real fast) and put a sign there (visible even in fog)? You still don't see the unit itself but I don't see why that's neccessary.
