Jade Torcs: The new unit of currency in Erebus

Yeah, I thought of that way, and it WILL work (signs do show in fog), I just don't like plastering signs all over the place. But as long as the sign was in the player's normal ALT+S sign style (shows only to them, and they can delete it when they want to) then it would work nicely.

I think this is what happened... A couple of games ago I received a Technology out of the blue. It was not one I was working on and I did not have vassals or eyes/ears or other ways to acquire them. I had no units set to explore automatically. But I did discover a Treasure Chest. My theory is that the Chest was sitting on the same plot as a Tribal Village and that when it became my unit, that was enough to trigger a goodie, which turned out to be the tech.

Lucky you!

Now, maybe if the rest of us could have this benefit...

Interesting. This thread has inspired me to work on a new mod; a market wonder where you can sell a lot of items and buy the most common ones. Wait a few weeks, and I think I'll have something to do with your jade torcs.

Cool. I can use my useless torcs for more than nothin. Maybe I can trade em for, say, poison blades.

I've been working on that one myself. You can give a unit 0 visibility, and it will not reveal even the tile it is standing on. But the issue is that it doesn't allow you to see the unit or select it unless someone else makes the tile visible. I'd really like the chest to still show up for you, but not reveal anything else on the plot. Haven't found where to make that one happen just yet....

Give it 0 visibility but a promtion that adds 1 vis and wears off with a 100% chance.

Well sounds like some things seriously need to be erased from the big good result list. (Jade Torcs surely being among them.)
Unless of course they are flagged as a big bad result. :p
Since the epic lairs are just supposed to give big good and big bad results...
I guess the jade torc could easily qualify as a neutral result, given that there are some interesting things in that category allready... :P

Or just add one poison strength to the jade torcs (if i remember rightly they offer poison resistance? Otherwise other effects might be appropriate...). I'm sure they would become a much more hot commodity then... :D

*drools over potential awsomness of this*

In my opinion the big goods are not as big as the big bads. To be sure, a lot of the items are nice to have, but really belong in the lower category. Until some better items can be devised, maybe there should be a possibility of getting multiple goodies. Or maybe some extra gold.

i think one really good result should be to find a settler like in the lower difficulties.

"while adventuring in the caves beneath you discover a friendly tribe of dwarves locked away. after defeating the Azers that have been plaguing them for centuries they offer to join you." either turns the lair into a city with a dwarven population (possibly allow Elhoim to get Dwarven buildings and stuff from tollerence) or give you a dwarven settler.

another uber reward could be discovering a permanent portal like those in the scenarios which acts as a door way to a different part of the map, allowing any unit on it to teleport to the other one. can only trigger once from epic lairs?

perhaps discovering a 'set' of items from epic lairs
"your adventurer comes across a full set of encharted armor relic from the age of magic" (get a sword sheild and armour item with some kick ass ability, im not feeling creative enough to think up examples now tho)

other ideas:
"your adventurer stumbles across a library filled with magical tombs" (spawn spellbook unit(s) which can be sacrificed to teach channeling 1 and 1 or more random spheres of magic to the unit (1 use only like a potion)

"your adventurer discovers the enormous skeleton of some long dead beast" turn the epic lair into the Dragon Bones UF if it is not already present on the map, if it is present spawn a minor UF like Dragon Bones, provides ivory and 4 extra commerce?

"while adventuring you encounter a clan of goblins trying to sacrifice an unconsious old man to Bhall. after slaying the hordes of golins single handedly and waking the old man he offers to join you" adventuring unit gets the adventurer promotion and/or free EXP, player gets a free Arcmage (!)

"While navigating a gigantic labarynth beneath the lair you stumble into a room stacked high with treasure" spawn a 'Dragons Horde' unit (to counter this perhaps if the lair is explored before Acheron is built by the barbs it gifts acheron to the barbs and turns the lair into a barbarian city) trigger once only?

"While exploring you discover a network of tunnels, and after slaying several minotaurs and a hydra it leads you to a cave which houses an enchanted underground forest! hudreds of different kinds of magical plants grow in the cavern and could be powerful if in the right hands" create a source of Reagents, and a new UF which gives +4 food from reagents.

etc etc.

Psychic Llamas, those are brilliant. Just what I'm hoping for.

Jade Torcs wouldn't be good currency in Erebus, unfortunatly. The mass-production of them would lead to hyper-inflation. It is like basing a form of currency on pebbles. ;)

That said (in jest ;) ), sometimes epic bads are actually quite good... I got some gorillas (they popped from barbs), and my command III golem captured them, leaving me with the final piece of the puzzle to complete the Grand Merange (sp.)

But you had to fight Abashi as a dungeon spawn!? That has GOT to be tough...

How did you get a command III golem? Command is only available to disciple units, and all golems but Barnaxus lack a unitcombat and so cannot get promotions. That seems impossible. Was that also a reward for exploring lairs?

Edit: I just realized that you're probably talking about a Flesh Golem.

Oh yeah... there are other types of golems too.

Note to self: Clarify that fact... as there is a small difference between the regular Golem, and the Flesh Golem. One is overpowered X infinity. The other is really, really weak (AFAIK, which I don't :P)

But you had to fight Abashi as a dungeon spawn!? That has GOT to be tough...

More like impossible. It was on turn two or three, my first shot at what was then a new mod. Since then, Abashi has been removed, so have no fear.

that must have made you freak out ;)

Could really do with some more interesting treasures from dungeons, come to think of it. Here's a few ideas (I don't know how implementable some of them are, just thoughts) - with an eye to things that are useful/interesting in the early game but not uberpowerful.

Elven Cloak - makes unit invisible while in forest.
Boots of the Aifon - gives water walking, +20% defence on ocean or marsh
Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch - damages everything around unit, one-use only
Clockwork Steed - gives +1 movement, 3% chance of breaking down every turn
Sword of Winter - +40% on Tundra or Ice, immune: Cold.
Stones of Patria - drop in a city for a one-time production boost.

after clockwork steed breaks, you can repair it (w/ dwarven/enchant I)
sword of winter +1 ice i.o. that

other than that, good ideas, but I'm not sure this is the right section for them

edit: woah! didn't realize there were 2 other pages. sorry if that's a bit old...

Artifact Merchants should be national wonders unique to each nation and offering a slightly different flavored variety each. Luchuirp should be able to build the Guild of Cunning Artificers at mechanics or somesuch and offer various clockwork thingies like that horse mentioned above. Svartalfar could build, I dunno, "Deadly Nightshade St." or something offering a selection of temporary poison based buffs and maybe an invisibility brew. Amurites at sorcery could build (getting worse here) Scrolls B We offering one shot spell effects of... the second circle maybe?

I'm sure if we put our minds to it we can come up with all kinds of neato stuff to waste hard earned late game cash on.
