Janeane Garofalo series gets canned

Yes, thats all very interesting but has anyone found one of those sites where they glue celebrities' faces onto the bodies of pornstars and claim to have found "genuine" nude photos of so-and-so?

If so, does that site feature anything on this woman?

PM with the details :)

However, i see nothing wrong with that. If she wishes to make a TV show to prod into her political beliefes then go ahead and work on some documentaries. But if you are extremely unpopular and then want to be on TV, I'm sorry but TV shows cost money. I don't think its any conspiracy.

Yes, but the idea was that she wasn't trying to prod her poltiical beliefs by making this show, just another American trying to make an honest buck.

Furthermore, I don't think that Ms. Garofalo is "extremely unpopular" so much as she is unpopular with the right-wing crowd. There's a difference between a conspiracy and a decision on market analysis that was politically and morally unsound.

And by the way. I've never heard of this woman before. But regardless. Instead of complaining the Bush ended her carreer she should start blaming herself. It was her high profile anti-Iraq protesting which appears to have ended her career. That and the fact that I don't think many people outside of the US have a clue who she is.

Wow, you're supporting the idea that someone should suffer in their career based on their political beliefs?

It's unlikely that it was cancelled for her political beliefs. Why? Because her core audience is going to be same coastal dwelling liberal/Democrats that opposed the war in Iraq. Since the nation is split about 50-50 on party lines, she would have had plenty of viewers. Her outspoken past would have driven as many people to the show as it would have driven away.

Lots of shows get cancelled at every stage of development. It was probably a crap show, it was obviously going to be crappy and embarrassing to air, so it was canned.

One big difference between Garofolo and, for example, the Dixie Chicks Natalie Maines is that Garofolo's fan base and distribution network does not lean conservative, whereas Maines did. The Dixie Chicks may end up benefitting from it however -- their sound is pop enough to get them played on pop stations. Maybe with their next album they will abandon their country-western roots, in the same way that kd lang did.

EDIT: fixed misspellings

If their career is based on mass appeal, and their political beliefs conflict with that goal of course it is going to effect their career.

Its easier for Janeane to shut up about her politics than it is for us mass media consumers to seperate her product (the show) from her politics. If she doesn't want to stop using her celebrity to promote her politics she's going to have to accept the fact that some people will only see her as a political animal, and all the consequences that come with it.

Massive right wing conspiracy I bet, me and the rest of the Neo Nazi Cult have finally overtaken ABC.

Beware CBC, you are next.

Or mabe its simply that she isnt funny, as mojotron said, her fanbase was big enough.

Well said Greadius,I agree and I'm constantly amazed when these celebrities take positions outside the mainstream of the American public and then bellyache when their prospective audience shuns them and claim they've been "censored" or "denied their freedom of speach." It's hard to say what factors played into the decision to cancel the show but maybe Jeneane should take it as a wake up call and learn to as you say,
"shut up".

I have to say I am surprised at the response to this thread,I thought it would mostly be ignored but it wasn't. I've enjoyed reading everyones responses, for the most part they've all been well thought out and sensible.

Did Garofalo "bellyache" about it? I question the source material, reading more into the cancellation than is evident.

Who is Janeane Garofalo anyway? On second thought, maybe I'm better off not cluttering my mind with the information.

"...... Janeane is convinced her politics and all the hate mail the right-wing lobby stirred up during the war is what is behind all this.''

I would call that " bellyaching", Yes. "waaaaa, it's the right wingers, waaaaaa, conservatives waaaaaaaa" :(

Ah! But it was provided by an "unnamed source..."

If it's true that she feels that way, she is being whiny. It's highly unlikely the plug was pulled because of how conservatives feel about her, even though times are chilly for folks w/ anti-war sensibilities.

There must be one or two ethical television networks...
