Jena 6

I think every race baiter from the black "leadership" is down there.

Wikipedia is giving a much clearer picture of the situation than any of the news programs or college protests are giving. The article in wikipedia give interesting context. But about the tennis shoes?

My brother was in a case in NJ where the jury had to debate whether a cell phone could constitute a deadly weapon. People who serve on juries are idiots.. and I'm really wouldn't put it past them to genuinely believe a tennis shoe constitutes a deadly weapon according to its definition, regardless of which race was involved.

So if he was barefoot, he would have been able to sidestep the "with a deadly weapon" charge? :cringe:

They're probably relieved that they can focus on something other than OJ.

If only the Media would follow suit. :(

We can only hope. I try to be a fair and impartial man, but if I was on a jury I'd be ready to announce "Guilty!!" during the opening statements, if only to avoid hearing about the case ever again.

Only in the south. Jesus.

Its not like there were race riots in NJ, Ohio or California. Only the south has race issues and racists.

Only in the South would you see a black person, as it was illegal for blacks to live in most of the North for a very long time.

That has to be the most ******** thing I have ever seen on this fourm. Zulu's posts aside. :goodjob:

Despite the inconsistencies in the different names to call a white person (European American, Caucasian...), I found this gem in the wikipedia article:

Racial tensions and fights continued through the fall but were held in check by the ongoing football season. The high school team was doing unusually well, in large part due to efforts of several star black players, and students were unwilling to do anything to upset the season.[3]

 One sport to rule them all...

Hey now... in my town cops shove broomsticks into an African guys ass in bathrooms! I guess we have not come as far as we thought in this issue.

Levittown Long Island. Look at the original deeds. They explicitly say Blacks were not allowed to own. And by signing you state that you will not sell to a black. Same deeds applied to Levitt built cities in PA and MD ( although MD is the south)too.

I would think you could start out by giving little credibility to the side that iniated the baiting by hanging nooses.
The impression I get is that hanging the nooses did not initiate anything. The tensions were already there.

And what year was this in? go to Levittown now.

He... She... it? Grew up there

I mean really. If things have not changed then I dono what has. And btw... one town does not = the entire north. Wich had free blacks fighting and dying along with droves of Irish to end said system in the USA.

I go to Levittown every year and grew up in a Levitt built city and currently live in another. I was just pointing out that in places blacks were barred in the north. And yes the north did have free blacks serving in the army.... in segregated poorly equipped regiments. There were free blacks in the south fighting for the CSA.... integrated in regiments with white soldiers and equally equipped. For an army fighting to free the slaves, blacks and whites, ( yes there were white slaves) they treated their black soldiers worse then the south did. The Civil war wasn't all about slavery. Most in the north didn't give a damn about the slaves. And its not like the blacks in the north were welcome after the war either. Racism has always existed in the north and still does.

Racism exists everywhere, not just the South, or whole US.

Also, the marches today went off w/o a hitch. No police incidents. Shows the power of peaceful protest.

MAHATMA GANDHIJI!

So you obviously admit things have changed. And ironicly... there is a levittown in PR so I guess there goes the whole racist angle.

Ah so now we go into regiments in the army. I'd say the 45th had some of the finest leadership in the form of Shaw. These intergrated regiments with the " equal equipment " thing is just plain . .. .. .. .. .. .. .. . imho. The majority of blacks in the south were treated like animals, lived in pens and were slaves for god sakes. To make such a comparison escapes all bounds of reality in a weak attempt to make a point. BTW... little side note, the winning side's government freed all of the slaves so your point is really, really off base on that one.

As far as equipment in general in the conflict goes

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_advantages_did_the_North_have_over_the_South_in_the_US_Civil_War

The North was much better equipped with the foundries and factories needed for producing weapons of war. The South was much more geared toward producing raw materials, primarily agricultural products, and sending them elsewhere for conversion into finished goods. The South was thus hard pressed to keep its troops adequately equipped.

I'd say that evena shabby regiment of northern blacks in that era make a well equipped southern regiment look tame in the last two years of the conflict. Acorss the board in logistical matters. Ask the people of Atlanta, Richmond or Savannah.

Treating there black soldiers worse than the south did?

99% of the black population in the south during the conflict were slaves. I am sure the black southern " soldiers " were treated wonderfuly by there " overseers " I mean Officers.

Apprently many in the north did care, you had a clandestine network called the underground railroad, books like uncle tom's cabin and a host of other things. It was not all about slavery for sure, yet in the end the UNION ended that policey once and for all. Not the REBELS. As far as racisim goes... it's everywere, you trying to make a point that it exists in the north is amuseing considering we are talking about an incident in the deep south. Mississippi and other places are LEGENDARY for the racisim. NYC is as well, for sure.

one of the (the one that had the charges apealed) "gena six" if not more has been convicted of violent crimes in the past, and was also on parol. No matter how you look at i this was a hate crime, and i hate to say but in my experiences black people can be just as racist if not more then some dumb rednecks.

The University of Florida should hire the Jena 6 as rent-a-cops. I'm sure they wouldn't need a taser to take down one political loudmouth.

I liked the quote by Jesse Jackson saying that Jena is the start of the 21st century's civil rights movement. What rights are there left to fight for? This is a case of the media making a small issue into a big one. Obviously the white students should have been expelled from school...but anytime 6 people beat one person until they are unconscious i would call it attempted murder.
