JJ01-Moving up to Monarch

It would loose FISH and forest good for production at the start of this city.
Desert hills are near useless, we will have better use for it's food.

I see. I couldn't work out from the pictures whether that was fish up N. I guess it is and makes my suggestions silly. Thanks for clarifying.

ohh, about build order, I did say about it.

Boat for fish(border will expand just arount it will finsihed) - granary (whipe ASAP) library(whipe ASAP)

Thanks again. I missed the fish completely and thus made me not too sure that build order would apply to this city.

About border pops, will that come from religion spreading to this city? If so, that is a power of shrines that I had not realised they spread religion so fast.

Stonehedge?

haha.. I am not going to say any more until I can have a look at the save. I completely forgot we snuck that one in.

Turn Report: Mostly to the plan with a few modifications to deal with the variations that the game throws at you. All is well though as sailing is in and the horses are connected. Only played 8 shots as per Mutineer's request I finished when Sailing came in.

Took over at end of 1080BC. Pottery due in 2. I changed Bombay from a warrior to the workboat that it will need when it's borders pop. The settler sleeping in Delhi sets off for the city 3 location with a warrior close behind. I decided that as he would be within a few cells of the edge of line of site that he could go unprotected to the new city site with the warrior arriving slightly later. No risk in that.

Turn 1 -- 1040BC
I moved the Eastern warrior a little further East as our border expansions have given us a little more visibility range. And what do we find!! A barbarian archer who seems to have already been attacked by someone. I still have a cell between him and us so I will retreat in front of him to the hills East of Delhi.

Civ4ScreenShot0060.jpg

IBT: Potter comes in.

Turn 2 -- 1000BC
Madras is founded on pink dot. A work boat is started and a worker starts connecting Madras up to Delhi. Founding Madras has taken our gpt from -1 to -4. Our bank as at this turn is 29. Research is still at 100% for the time being.
Sailing research is started and is due in 7.

Turn 3 -- 975BC
The Eastern fog busting warrior is still retreating one cell in front of the barbarian archer. This is working ok as he is not stopping to heal. Hopefully with the added defense of the hills, our warrior should take the partial strength archer out.

Turn 4 -- 950BC
Delhi completes the barracks and starts a temple due in 2. I contemplated a warrior in case our Eastern warrior loses, but decide that I can wait for the temple to complete first as the archer would take at least 5-6 turns to get to Delhi.

Turn 5 -- 925BC
Moses (Prophet) is born in Delhi and I used him to construct the Kong Miao. He would have given us meditation as a tech as expected.

Civ4ScreenShot0061.jpg

Turn 6 -- 900BC
Delhi completes the temple but as the border has only just popped in Bombay I can only now start to pasture the horses. The roads connecting it all up are ready but you cannot improve resources outside your borders. Thus we cannot yet build chariots in Delhi as we wished to. We will need to wait a couple more turns for the horses. I decided that a warrior would be best next just in case there is a problem in the hills. If all goes well he can go out and bust the fog anyway.

The Eastern fog buster has now retreated to the hills and has fortified on the first one. The archer has followed all the way and is one cell to the east.

IBT: Barbarian archer attacks our Warrior fortified on the hill and we win (0.68/2). :woohoo: I leave him fortified to heal.

Turn 7 -- 875BC
Delhi completes the warrior and I change it over to a granary. The horses are still not ready so I changed the order a bit. Delhi is really producing quite a few hammers and can finish the granary in 2 IIRC. The warrior heads out eastwards to do some fog busting.

IBT: Sailing has completed.

Turn 8 -- 850BC
Bombay starts on a granary. The fish has now been connected up. I actually should have put this on last turn when the workboat finished but I had queued the workboat in front of the warrior so the warrior got another turn put into him. I put the granary in front of the warrior and left the warrior there as he only needs 1 turn to finish (12/15) and may as well get the left over from the granary whip.

Hunting is selected as next research purely as a placeholder as I am sure the group will be discussing what techs to go for next.

Madras has just been connected up by road and the rice should be farmed and connected up next. Madras will grow in 1 turn and work boat is due in 23.

Delhi's granary will be ready in 1 turn and the horses have just got connected so we will be able to start producing chariots now. I am sure we will be producing 2 every 3 turns or so or better.

The two warriors on our eastern border: One is full strength and should keep on going east to bust the fog. The 2nd is fortified on the hill recovering and should be moved once he is healed. He is actually fortified so it may be best that next up un-fortifies him and presses heal instead so that he will come back to alertness once he is healed. If he is just left there is a chance that he will be forgotten for a while.

Sorry folk, I got sick today and can not write advice complitly.

You forgot to mentioned that Bombey is now Confused. :)
Thanks for Marks, I think they do help to remember :)

I think you done well, with only one exeption.
Fish is hooked in Bombey but not worked.
5 food after whipe at size to bring 12.5 shields, mach more then 2 food 1 shield forest.

OK, I just load save, modify a little and quie build order I advise.

Bombey and Madrass should whipe Granaries as soon as posible.
I quie Temple in Madrass next and Galey in bouth in them.
WE need to explore what other islands are around. So, again whipe galey add worrier to each of them and send them out exploring.

I think To use Missionary to explore Jungle is to dangerous, we better bite bullet and use it to Confuse his Capital, so we can Spy on him :) and get 1 Gold:)

Tect I quied is Monarchy-> Alphavit

There only one Musta to trade with, so no harry there and monarchy will provide additional happiness for us, especially important to grow our Capital.

Worker that finished pastured Horses should start on cottagess. It is our planed commercial city.
Worker north should hook up Rice and start to road to next city site.
I quie worker after chariots, as we need to connect Bronse at capital and do some roading to directly connect capital with city N4.

Otherwize our plan did not change.
Again, sorry to be short, I am sick.
Who ever next, Monarchy in 18, a bit long. stop when you feel rigth +-10.

Thanks folks

Oh bugger.. Of course. I had clicked to manually asign and forgot to check as soon as I connected the fish. This is a habit I know of and have been trying to get out of as it can hurt you in the higher difficulty levels if you leave the city producing the wrong things.

Hope you get well soon.

BTW/ that was an excellent write-up, Kikinit. Very detailed, awesome. What is that Demographics screen you posted? Where do I get that mod?

That is the way I am used to doing write-ups from my other SG's I have played. Trying to let the other players know what decisions were made and an occasional pic to help make it look nicer. I did pay a bit more attention to noting things down this time than normal though due to the fact we are stepping it up in difficulty. This logging helps me think about what I am doing a lot better too.

The mod I am using is called "Alerum's Unaltered Game Play". As the name suggests, it doesn't alter the game play, just gives a few flashier things on the interface. The link is here.

The info screen is interesting though. We can see that the Mansa has booming GNP but his production is lousy. We have improving GNP but have reasonable production. We have got some free techs which will have put us in a reasonable position in the tech race, but we will need to lift that GNP as our research level is related to it.

Eventially yes. But it is hurd to lead in all areas, especially at the start of the game when AI initial bonuses weigth a lot. Our starting positon does not help.
Look on Masta, his commerce come mostly from Gems.
I am sure our other competiters had some lucky special resource to, like gold for example.

OK, looks like it is over to me. I plan on playing my turns tomorrow.

Are we sure we want to burn the missionary on Mansa's capital before we use our galleys to find out if there is a neighbor without religion to spread Confucianism to?

It will be just too long and there may be no any neybors, signs are not hopefull.

Befor we had shrine it did not matter a bit, but with shrine we will be loosing 1Gold/turn and ability to see what he ha sin his capital is nice to.

it will be 6-10 turns befor first galey is ready + min 10 turns befor it explore anything. way to long

Pre-turn
: Everything is already queued up, etc. so no changes.

T1:
- Send our missionary to Musa's capital.
- Worker moves to connect rice.
- Our other worker starts cottaging near Bombay.

<IBT: Madras borders expands.>

T2:
- Confusionism established in Timbuktu.
- Whip a workboat in Madras.

<IBT: chariot built in Dehli (flanking).>

T3:
- Move workboat to the fish.
- Whip a granary in Bombay.
- Chariot starts scouting near city 4 site, spots a barb archer.

<IBT: another chariot built in Delhi (flank).>

T4:
- Chariot whacks barb archher (0.6/4). His fellow chariot moves up to cover him.
- Whip a temple in Bombay; worker there starts another cottage.

<IBT: chariot #3 from Delhi (flank).>

T5:
- Healing chariot promoted (sentry).
- Rice farm is done, start a road.

<IBT: fast wroker built in Delhi.>

T6:
- Move new worker to hook up copper.
- Start another cottage by Bombay.
- Whip a galley at Bombay. Move one of our extra warriors towards Bombay to act as garrison, will load the current garrison for overseas exploring.

<IBT: galley in Bombay => library.>

T7:
- Galley with warrior on board heads east along our southern coast, headed for the lands to the east of our continent.

<IBT: copper is connected.>

T8:
- We have an unhappy in Bombay due to lack of garrison (will be there next turn). Avoid growth for one turn.

T9:
- Garrison arrives in Bombay, turn growth back on.

<IBT: Delhi builds settler.>

T10:
- Settler starts out for city 4 site.
- We wiill need to drop research to 90% next turn due to unit support (1G in treasury, -2 gpt).

That's looking very good, well done Bigfoot. I guess the next question is when to hire the priests for the second prophet. Will we want to get Alphabet first and trade for Meditation, Alphabet and self-research meditation or go ahead and get meditation in anticipation of Great Prophet in 13 turns, with Alphabet to follow. Not sure that it makes a lot of difference except it seems to me that the sooner we can get Bureaucracy and get Delhi back to working tiles, the better.

Learning alphavit first a bit risky, as I forgot one thin.
Alphavit open literature and GP might want choise that.
i change research path to learn meditation after Monarchy. Our GP will come shortly after.

The only thi I change was reseach and I que some Items in our capital.

Please, Undestand I que Items only for speed of communication, they are not set in stone. I am can not see the future, only guest.
We will want to whipe libraries ASAP to, because they let as use SCi specialists to convert food to beakers and slow city grow as whipping unhappiness dissipate.

About cityN4. Bouth current and one south about = in my mind. We loosing river grass(more food or commerce) in favor working Hourse (more shields).

Second difference that we will need out other city to produce boat if city plased on other cite. I think bouth have about = merrit, but for second you will need to ajust build order of our 3rd city to stick fish boat after granary.

It might be better go this way, as it will make N4 city ready to produce trops faster.

IN City N4 I want Fish boat(it or from city N3)-Granary-Barrack- start whipping Axe. I hope you read about double pop Axe whipping tecnique from one of links I provided.

Now, we are going after Masta shortly after we get Civil service. We need to get him befor he discover feodalism.

So plan is: after setler finish switch to 4 priest and get GP. It should take only a few turns, as our 5GP points/turn were coming from our wanders.

I stick library befor Axes as our capital will produce some commerce.

We have enogth cottagess south. workers need to create roads for city N5 and to Masta Border for our invasion force. At same time workers need to farm floodplans in order to grow our city N4 faster and make it usefull as Axe whipping facility.

We are running tigth, as Masta tend to discover feodalism fast and our axes would be complitly useless.
He has Iron Working and Iron. (Look at picture). See this mine on plains where we can not see any resource? The only way he can build this mine is if Iron is there.

The best thin will be if we time our army to be at Masta border as we discover Alphavit and did trade with Masta befor we attack him and drop our relationship even more down.

We can trade everything exept civil servis. Civil servis is to valible to let Masta to sell it to Other AI and use it himself.
