JJ03-Monarch, Just Win

I went ahead and played 15 turns. Any less than that on Epic just doesn't seem to work.

We made quite a few tech trades and met Huayna, Saladin and Ghandi. Ghandi is the only one leading us on Tech. Still no religion in any cities, but at least we will have spices soon. We should let Berlin and Hamburg grow at that point.

Founded a sixth city in the northwest and it's kind of a drag on the economy at the moment. I suggest choping a library to get it going quickly.

Used the GS on an Academy in Berlin. Currently constructing some infrastructure and city garrisons.

I played 20 last time, but now we've met some civs, 15 seems fine.

Got it!
Will play my 15 turns and post tomorrow.

Next research?
We have lot of options. Below is the ones I think will give us the most listed.
- Litterature (7 turns): Ghandi has the tech. At size can Berling build GL in 525/(17*1.5) = 20 turns. Is it worth the try?
- Metal Casting (17 turns) Colussus is still free to get. No-one knows it.
- Currency (15 turns)
- Construction (14)
- Compass(15)
- Civil Service (30)

Victory condition?
- Have we desided on this yet?

Gandhi is willing to trade Literature, so that gives some indication he is not building the Great Library, so we have a shot, but without Marble I would be inclined to put our efforts elsewhere.

The Colossus seems like a great choice. We can get the Bronze hooked up to give us an additional production bonus and we get half price forges. Having met 5 of our 6 opponents, we won't need Astronomy for a long time, so we can delay obsolescence.

Ok, Metal Casting it is then.

My internet connection at home will be down due to repair. But I can post from a friend after I've finished my turns. I will do so after tonights soccer matches.... Go Sweden! :(

Goals for my turns:
- Get Metal Casting.
- Get out onther city and try to connect bronze.
- Whip courthouses.
- Connect spices for :)

Hopefully our game goes better than the Swedish :)
Lagerback isn't exactly the best coach ever.

Where do you plan to place a city?

Speaking of the WC, the US looked pretty uninspired yesterday against the Czechs. :shake:

110 - 350 AD

Turn 0
By micromanaging our cities I get Metal Casting down from 15 to 12 turns. I also order up Courthouses in every city but Berlin, maintenance is our biggest expense at the moment. Munich even gets 2 pop whipped for Courthouse.

Turn 1
Munich: Courthouse -> Settler (10)

Turn 2
Our northern Galley reaches Indian homeland and I sign OB with Gandhi for passage. I also trade pig for cow with this charming man.

Turn 3
Gandhi shows up and asks me to cancel deals with Inca. After some thoughts I agree to this.

Turn 4
Nothing much.

Turn 5
Berlin: Research -> Swordsman

Turn 6
Zzzz….

Turn 7
Our Galley reach Elizabethan England and I sign OB for passage. She’s the founder of Judaism and has a tech lead by four techs on us. L
Bad news, Japan has settled on our continent. Not a big surprise, as the other continent seams to be really crowded.

Turn 8
Hanging Gardens is built in Beijing.

Turn 9
Our Indian pen pal builds Church of Nativity.
Hamburg gets a taste of the whip: 3 pop for a Courthouse.

Turn 10
Munich: Settler -> Granary (10)
Settler is sent to western part of our continent. If settled on the hill where a warrior is fortified in the screen attached it will get bronze when its boarder pops.
Hamburg: Courthouse -> Lighthouse

Turn 11
:coffee:

Turn 12
Metal Casting comes in. I take a break from the game to watch some soccer and think about next research. Croatia, a country with 4.5 million people, is really putting up a great effort against Brazil. Close but no cigar though, but I really enjoy their attitude to the game, Lagerbäck has a lot to learn from them.
Well, back to our game. Civil Service is my choice for next research. Other civs will trade Currency, Literature, Horseback Riding and Monotheism. Qin has monopoly on Construction and Gandhi is the only one who knows Drama. So these techs we can get by trade later. We won’t like to trade away Metal Casting before we have built Colossus. CS will give us Bureaucracy, which is a huge boost for us because of Berlin’s great production and/or commerce potential. I have assigned two workers to improve around our capital at the moment to get it up to maximal potential.
Trade wheat for silk with Qin. :) for us!
Spice connected by Munich. More :) for us!!

Turn 13
Thumb wrestling with Gandhi.

Turn 14
One Munich gangster builds a Granary through slavery.

Turn 15
Munich: Granary -> Forge (22) could be changed to Library (33).
One Galley gets fortified north of Cologne, the other one is sent on a go-to for the same location. The later sailed through English territory and reach Incan land, but Huayna won’t give us OB.

Save and some screens are attached.

When will we start attacking Libyan (sp?)?

I guess I'm up. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get to it tonight, but should definitely be able to do play tomorrow (Thurs.) night.

Yeah. Sorry. It's been a busy couple of days. I can play tonight for sure. No, really. Honest.

Turn 1: (365 AD)
Berlin completes: Swordsman --> Axeman (7)

Turn 2: (380 AD)
Gandhi offers Horseback Riding + 90 GP for Metal Casting. No thank you.

Turn 3: (395 AD)

Turn 4: (410 AD)

Turn 5: (425 AD)
Qin and Elizabeth have discovered Metal Casting, so...
Trade Saladin: Metal Casting --> Currency + 70 GP
Trade Gandhi: Metal Casting + 60 GP --> Horseback Riding + Monotheism

Turn 6: (440 AD)
While defending, Archer defeats (2.58/3): Barbarian Archer
Ptolemy (Great Scientist) born in Berlin An Academy in Hamburg or Munich won't do us much good right now, so I'll use him to discover Philosophy:
Technology discovered: Philosophy
Saladin declares war on Gandhi!

Turn 7: (455 AD)
Islam is founded in a distant land
Gandhi converts to Buddhism.
Great Library is built in China
Another Barbarian Archer attacks our Archer to the West of Libyan:
Wile defending, Archer defeats (1.62/3): Barbarian Archer
Trade Gandhi: Philosophy --> Literature + Construction + 90 GP
I had hoped to make another trade with Saladin for Theology, but he's pissed that I traded with Ghandi. Oh well.

Turn 8: (470 AD)
Saladin cancels Open Borders with us.
Berlin completes: Axeman --> Swordsman(7)
In Essen, a defending Archer defeats (3.00/3): Barbarian Archer

Turn 9: (485 AD)

Turn 12: (530 AD)

Courthouse :whipped: in Frankfurt for 1 pop.

Turn 14: (560 AD)
Cologne completes: Lighthouse --> Workboat (6)
Frankfurt completes: Courthouse --> Lighthouse (6)

Turn 15: (575 AD)
Hinduism has spread: Berlin Finally! We get a religion! But I decide not to convert just yet.
Berlin finishes: Swordsman --> Hindu Monastery (12)

I just realized that I forgot to revolt to Beauraucracy! :cringe: *DOH!* :cringe: I revolted at the end of the turn, so we will come out of anarchy at the beginning of the next.

I did not found another city. After putting it off, I finally decided to start moving our Settler to the Hill East of the Horses N of Libyan. As soon as I decided to do that, however, Toku showed up with a Galley bearing a Settler and an Archer and will probably take that site:

I cancelled the "Go To" order for our Settler and his Warrior escort, so I'll leave it up to whoever is next to decide whether to try for it, or to turn back to the penninsula.

There is also a Swordsman with an "Go To" order headed to join his brother N of Libyan. Another Swordsman ought to be enough to take it.

Tech-wise, we're doing better. We're still the only ones with Civil Service, and we are ahead of at least Toku and Huayna. By the way, Huayna still won't talk to us. This probably cost us a tech or two, so be careful about giving into the demands of other Civs to cancel trade agreements/Open Borders early in the game!

He are the depressing demographics:

The save is HERE .

Your save is from 865 BC, heh.

Clearly we're going to have to kick Toku off the continent after we take Libyan. I think he's not very strong in any event, maybe we even take a couple of his cities on the other continent.

Org. Religion would be good if we converted, but I don't remember what the diplo situation is if we do that.

Not sure where we are on GP production, but I think Paper might be a good next tech so that we can use a scientist on Education.

I will play tomorrow, if the right save is here. It should be pretty easy to wipe toku off our continent. We should be able to do so after we grab as much land as possible.

11 turns to machinery, 12 turns to maceman.
I'll check the save when it's here.

Damn it!! Sorry. I was VERY tired when I posted. Just a minute...
