JOE-05 - The Crusades

Rather than make a huge mistake, I think it's better if I ask for clarification.

Our plan is to go for Domination victory only after we have converted all of England's cities to Christianity?

That could take a while, with all the open space in the north of that continent, the English will be spamming settlers all over the place. I note that we have a settler. Do we want to grab some prime spot of real estate? We're currently at 52% of land required for domination. With culture cranked up to 40%, it won't be long before we grow beyond it.

I questioned why we were running the Culture slider at 40% but one quick look at our cities told me the answer. Even at 40%, Pi-Ramesses, Alexandra and Arpinium were unhappy. I slowed or stagnated the growth in all three. I started a Work Boat(4) in Alexandria to replace the pillaged fishing nets and a Forum(23) at Arpinium for happiness. I changed production at Orleans, our highest hammer city for buildings to Mt. Rushmore(11). It could be half of that but despite the size of our empire, we possess no stone. It would require two border pops at Yaroslavl' for us to get stone on line. That only took 2 turns to happen so Mt. Rushmore was done in 6 turns. I also started Eiffle Tower(33) in Essen but Frederick beat us to it.

As it turns out, that was all an over-reaction :smoke: On my second turn, war weariness dissapated as the memories of the Russian war faded among our population. I cranked culture back down to 0%.

I put our settler in Moscow to use by founding Viroconium:
crusades05-1.jpg

Yakutsk and Viroconium were converted to Christianity so 100% of our cities are now Christian. At that time, there were 6 English cities remaining to be converted, but new ones were popping up all the time. I was able to convert Leeds, Canterbury plus Richmond, a new city. One Missionary will arrive in Newcastle next turn but there's another new city, Exeter, south of Moscow. Arretium will grow another Missionary next turn. By my current count, only London will be non-Christian after Exeter and Newcastle are converted.

I woke up our spies and put them to work sabotaging England's resources, focusing on Happiness resources. The RNG was not kind to us because 3 of our spies were captured and interrogated. But we knocked out a lot of resources and just about all of her cities are unhappy. Orleans takes one or two turns to replace a spy. We also have a spy snooping around Germany.

I woke up our workers in England and sent them north to improve pillaged tiles. They are complete and some are heading south to convert some windmills into mines.

Frederick suggested we revolt to Universal Sufferage. I suggested where he could stick it. That earned us a negative with him but he's still +10 Friendly with us.

Our forces are staged to begin a two-pronged assault on England. In the south, a smaller stack is stationed in Ardea. With bomber support from Satricum, they will raze Reading on the first turn of the war. In the north, our main force is parked adjacent to Birmingham which also will fall in 1 turn. Unfortunately, I didn't notice until my final turn that both our super-medics were with the northern stack. I loaded one up onto a transport and he's journeying south now.

We moved up closer to the domination limit. We should avoid any new cities for a while.

I've got the beer on ice. Here's the save. Alexius_I_AD-1907.CivWarlordsSave Have fun!

Looks like you just might get to finish it off JoE.

It's fun having all that gold to sabotage with. I like that.

As we only need to raze London could we get the north stack on transports to hit from the coast? I didn't look at the save so I cant remember if we have the transports there. Our bombers won't reach to London from the North. Maybe they should all go to the south.

The bombers will not reach London from the south, either. It is one tile beyond their range.

Our transports are in the southwest corner of the English continent and are maybe 5 turns from getting to our northern stack. JOE can check the distance from New Castle to London -- it might be within range of our Bombers.

Got it. Not that I doubt frankcor's sage council, but I'll have a look at the attack situation. Obviously knocking out London is a priority, but I'm thinking some southern city razing would expand our borders a bit, as there is a bit of culture war down their.

New cities popping up is a pain...we may have to stay at war until we win so we can raze new English cities as soon as they're founded...we obviously can't convert them whilst at war.

This is just bugging me... Are you spelling it "rooster" on purpose? If not, it's "roster." A rooster is a male chicken.

The rooster thing...honestly, I can't remember how that started. I know I picked it up from some other regular about a year ago in an SG, but I can't remember which one or who it was. Possibly Chaos SG...makes sense although I was only a lurker for that one.

It's kind of just stuck as an 'in-joke' of sorts. The ruff_hi rings a bell as to where I picked it up from, but I could be mistaken.

As for the game, I guess we could take a southern city so our bombers could reach London? I'll be playing tonight after work. Got to play JOE-06 as well so a busy evening for me. :)

OK got it. I'll play soon. My guess is we will raze London bit not push the dom limit in ten turns.

T 0 change a few builds to wealth and christian temples. Move units to border for a three pronged attack hoping to confuse Liz into turtling.

One attack by sea from the west, one from the north with a mini stack, and our SoD from the north with a beeline to London for some buddhist burning.

T1 Declare. I take Birgmingham . Bomber base.

birmingham.JPG

T 2 Leave 6 infantry in birmingham and move the rest of the stack through the jungle to London. Other stack go for their marks including naval bombardment of York in the west.

west_coast_hit.JPG

T3 york falls, stack moves on London, mini stack penetrating also in the north. Spys are sabotaging food and coal. gunships pillaging coal.

T4 Liz hits back at York with a marine or two. this is good, diverting from the main stack.

T5 stack moves on London and we see the defence, small. In the west we take Leeds, bombers form orenburg and two CR3 tanks. A GG is born in Pisae, no way to transport him anywhere.

T6 Stack arrives at London, bombers have reduced culture defence to zero. I crank culture to 100%

We prevail

london_gone.JPG

T 7 London burns . One of our spys is actually caught and detained while destroying a vineyard. Little Exter on the west coast self razes, only one population. Fred is pleased , not friendly after the declaration on Liz. I gift hom 200 gold and some free fur.

I see Hatty has a city in the North. If she has another religion in there and with closed borders,we may need to declare on her and Fred. Seems a bit unneccesary, but I will find out the religion if possible.

T 8 Canterbury in the west is the next target. I combination of sea bombardment, then air, then fighter strike ,then tanks Blitz ability means it goes in 1 turn against quite good defence. We're on 62 %

canterbury_hit.JPG

T 9 Take Newcastle on the east coast. check the variant rules; "1. All our cities to have Christianity at earliest opportunity (100% of everyone's cities by end game)."

Our spy getsup to the north city. i should have sent her there earlier.

hatty_city.JPG

T 10 Dont play because of dilemma.

Hatty has one city with no religion. we cant convert it because of closed borders. we could raze it and achieve the variant, or see it as a non religion city, therefore OK. We are really close to domination. I have culture at zero but it will be touch and go to raze it before we tip over.

Oh dear, I just noticed that the annoying island Hatty has is Buddhist. we will have to raze it too. I don't know if we can do it before domination.

This is really tricky. I thinK we will need a good force to take that island including bombers going south for the job, and tanks on transports if Hatty has mech inf. It will take 4 or 5 turns to do. Then raze both in one fell swoop. If we want our dom limit to go down, declaring will do it. Fred could take a couple of our cities for us.
