John Entwistle of The Who was found dead today in his Las Vegas hotel room. He died in his sleep of natural causes at age 55. They don't know all the details, but he died between Midnight and 2AM local time and was discovered during the 2PM hour. The Who were to start their next tour this evening in Las Vegas.

Rest in Peace John Entwistle :(

Edit: They just said it was from a heart attack.

:( :( :( :( :(

Oh no! I'm a big fan of the Who. This is sad. Now there's only two left.

RIP John

Here's a quick summary of his life and achievements:

--------------------------------------------

John Alec Entwistle was born to Herbert and Maud Entwistle
on Oct 9, 1944 in Chiswick England.
While growing up as a child John took up the trumpet, flugelhorn , french horn (which he plays in Tommy) and the piano as well as the bass guitar.

Around 1959 John Entwistle, Pete Townshend and Phil Rhodes
started a band called "The Confederates",
which will eventually evolve into "The Who".

Even though Entwistle was not the main songwriter for "The Who",
John had his share of song writing such notable songs, as "Whiskey Man",
"Boris The Spider", "My Wife" and "Trick Of The Light" just to
mention a few.

As bassist for "The Who", you can hear his expert bass playing in
such songs as "My Generation" and cover versions of "Shaken All Over",
"Young Man Blues" and my favorite WHO classic " The Real Me".

John also compiled the "Odds And Sods " album in 1974 and
has taken role as music director on "The Who" soundtracks
"Quadrophenia" and "The Kids Are Alright".

John was the first group member to achieve solo success with
"Smash Your Head Against The Wall" in the 70's,
and has had toured with his band "The Ox" (also one of his nicknames)
"Rigor Mortis" and the "John Entwistle Band" and also has toured with
Ringo Starr and Roger Daltrey.
John has one of the finest bass and guitar collection in the U.K.,
and as an artist he did the cover of "Who By Numbers" and some of his
Solo albums.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

As a bass player and ardent Who fan, he was my hero (along with Geddy Lee). A true artist and legend he will be missed.

Rest in Peace Ox.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!

As long as Pete has a few good years left, Ill learn to deal with this :(

All the old greats are passing on, next it may even be one of your favourites. They will never be the same again.

RIP and enjoy that great stage in the sky....

I was stunned when I read the news tonight. Entwhistle was one of my heroes, the quiet but ambitious musician who made some great contributions to modern music. I grew up listening to the Who and John will be missed sorely. I listened to "Tommy" while writing a response in the History forum as a silent tribute.

Rest ye well, John.

This is the latest news:

"Pete and Roger have decided that the tour will carry on, commencing with the Hollywood Bowl show on Monday. Bass player Pino Palladino has been drafted in for the shows. The Las Vegas and Irvine shows will be rescheduled for new dates.

A full statement from Pete and Roger will follow shortly."

Well, would you expect anything less from The Who?
