Journey to Nowhere - Game Thread

My weapon, at least, Mr. Cook, was not procured from everywhere. Back where I come from, we loved our guns. This here's just a little pistol from back there. A memory of times past. Anyway, I'm not that big into guns. Sure, I kept a shotgun in my house for defense, but heavens, I don't like warfare. I wasn't too keen on hunting either.

But, back to the point, Mr. Cook. Why can't we walk up and ask for food? I'm sure the good Doctor has money. We could sell things. Or, God forbid Mr. Cook, we could do some honest work.

In any case, there's no need to be so condescending to the child. Look, Alen, we know the outpost might exist. That's good enough for me. If it exists, we'll hole up. If it doesn't, it's not like it's in the opposite direction of the town. We'll be able to make our way there.

I think i may have lost my money, since the government placed me in the clinic, which is more like a prison they they took all my money and sent it to my family in Eastduke, at least so they said...

Maybe me and mike could walk into the city and ask, since we both have the accent that's not from the northern part? Most people would think we are travelers. If not, i could bribe a junkie with my herbs and some other drug which i probably have for food, weapons and information.

*As the Scout eyes the freshly-caught rabbit, Dazzler lets out a soft growl. Dickie, who is busy building a fire to cook said rabbit, looks at Ryan, then at the dog.*

Don't growl, Daz, it's not very friendly.

*To the Scout* I'm sorry, Mr. Hall, but Dazzler ain't used to sharin' with no-one but me... That said, there's only enough rabbit for me and him. And you do have your own rations, do you not?

*Addressing the whole group* I ain't so keen on goin' into no town; least not 'til we get ourselves a bit further from the scene of the crime. With all the trouble in Areville, I'd reckon the Imperials in Bakerstown will be on high alert, and I ain't one for courtin' trouble without a very good reason.

If it were just me and Daz, I reckon we'd stick to the forest for a few more days - stay out of sight for a bit longer. But with twelve mouths to feed, we'll be needin' to resupply soon enough...

So, I s'pose we oughta head south-east, and take a look at this abandoned outpost. Best be real careful as we approach, though, in case it turns out to be less abandoned than we thought. Might be an idea to watch out for booby traps, too.

"I feel it would be smarter of us to head southeast towards the outpost. Better to scavenge goods from there where nobody has any use of them anyway, than from a town.

And considering entering Bakerstown, I honestly think it's a bad idea. Any town that close is going to have Vlat presence, and we might not fit in as well as we would wish for. After all, we're a pretty... Mixed bag of people, and from Aresville, where, by now, people will be dead. We would risk causing a whole lot of attention. If we plan on ever entering the city, then we should send one or two people who doesn't look too out of picture and try to buy some food."

Ninosca looks at Mike Hammer. "... Look, I respect your pride of being an honest man, but we might need food and weapons more than whatever people we encounter. If we can avoid using force, it would be fantastic, but we can't rely on that luxury. If you would rather abandon the Cause than work under these conditions, please, speak out."

She then turns to Alen.

"We definately do not want to enter a town as large as Bakerstown, even less attack it. I don't know what you are thinking, but if you believe that you serve the Cause best by taking a Vlat, perhaps even two, with you before going down, you're wrong. In order to win this fight, we need to have zero casualties. There is no way we will be able to keep up with the Vlats otherwise. I am not saying this because I don't believe in the Cause, but because I do. Confronting the Vlats and dying tomorrow might be brave, but it won't help bagel."

The serious look on her face disappears with the ending comment, as she turns to see Dazzler looking hungrily at the catch. Carefully, she approaches the dog and tries stroking it once.

*Dazzler nervously steps away from Nicosca, and eyes her suspiciously.*

Don't worry, Daz, she's a friend.

*Dazzler looks at Dickie, then back at Nicosca. Tentatively, he edges forward to smell the outstretched hand. After twenty seconds of careful sniffing, he seems satisfied that the woman is friendly, and allows her to stroke his head for a moment.*

We are not here to debate the morals of the rebellion. We are here to survive, and to ensure our dream lives on.

I motion we head to Bakersville, and try to blend into the crowd. We need to know what is being reported about both us and the imperial attacks in the north.

I can go either way. If we all decide to go to the town i can stay with our stuff since we can't walk with all of it, and i am not a good fighter.

Mr. Hammer, not everyone comes from such an educated and obviously prosperous background as you.

You may blend in easily whatwith your accent and all that, but have you considered the others who didn't really have the fortune to obtain their university accent? Their northern accents would give them away. A fart from them would bring the Vlatixians on us, do you honestly think Bakerstown is the place to go? In the den of the enemy itself?

Or are you just trying to get us killed?

OOC: I thought I was dropping hints that Mike Hammer had a bit of a southern drawl. Oh well. THERE, IT'S MADE EXPLICIT.

IC: Prosperous, Mr. Cook? Hardly. Do I have a degree? Yes. How'd I get it, you ask? A scholarship, that helped a lot. Friends, family, they all helped. Where I come from, Mr. Cook, we valued our education. Mom and Pops pinched pennies to get me out there. I worked at various jobs to pay for that education of mine. I wouldn't say I bled for it like some of you people have, but I struggled in my own way.

And in any case, if you were paying attention, I recommended going south-east, and not directly into Bakerstown. I thought I said that I wanted the people who could blend in to head to town and stock up on supplies and whatnot.

I am, though, honored that you believe me to be prosperous. Shows what a good job my parents did. Raised me with manners and everything. I hope they're doing fine back there...

Miss Ninosca, believe me, I am a pragmatic man. I didn't stay there in the town and fight until I died, although honor may have dictated it. I left so that I could do more good. If I have to cheat, to lie, to steal, for the cause, I'll do so. But all I am saying is, let us not burn bridges before we cross them. Once we lose people's trust, it'll be hard to get it back. Better to try to procure honestly than to always thieve about. Looking into the future, we might need some allies. Surely we'd get support if we were on the more positive end of the moral scale.

Leaning against a tree, listening, and as usual, casually smoking his pipe, Jeremy speaks up. "As far as I can see it, the worst decision would be for all of us to be strollin on into Bakerstown the mornin after next, all filthy from our travels and armed to the teeth." He pauses and gives a long draw. "Think about what the locals will see, say, think. As far as this outpost, we don't know fer sure that its even there. I'm thinking we'd be left wide open if any Vlats is tracking us, if there ain't any there to already."

"I think we should keep under cover of the forest, at least until we are further away from Areville. I'm gonna keep my eyes to the south." He falls silent for a moment and seems, finished, but in a final motion he points the stem of his pipe out sweeping it pointedly at everyone else. "I got a feeling my suggestion is fallin on dead ears, as everyone seems so determined to head to this outpost." He scowls and shakes his head, "I'm gonna raise hell if anyone makes towards town from there, so you best be shaking that thought from your heads."

*spits on the ground* Jus' Wonderful. I say we head to the Outpost or the city. Any outpost, abandoned or not's, bound to 'ave something it it. Something we can use. 'slong walk out of Vlatixan. Mind you the city ain't a bad place to be. *glances at Mike before continuing speaking* And I know how to find food inna city. Tain' tough if you know how. If someone's going inna the city, I'm joining I'm for sure. One don't survive on the streets long, if you can't blend in. *spits again*

The Brewer walks near the camp looking for herbs to experiment with. "Damn it. Looks like those only grew outside Vlatixan after all," the young brewer mumbled to himself. Anyway, he had some other matters on his mind. Lately he seemed to have trouble sleeping. He keeps seeing strange flashes of light and noticed he often stuttered in a conversation.

Returning with a few plants, he overheard others arguing over their next course of action. He decided to speak. "Heading towards the city is a dangerous move, but the cook makes a good point. We need to know what the Imperials are up to. Now, does anyone wants a beer?"

"Actually, Jeremy raises a good point. We could just continue southwards... We'd still be closing in on the outpost, if it's there, which we might be able to find out, and we won't be nearing Bakerstown unneccessarily. Besides, we'll be moving directly away from the Vlat's center of attention for the moment, Aresville. And our twelfth man only knows we're headed south, we should think of that aswell. We don't want to leave him alone out here, he might get killed... Or caught."

OOC: As far as I know, we are not yet aware of Methos' disappearance in-character. Splime, you might want to notify us of that after the next day :p

OOC: I don't think we even know there's a 12th man i nthe party - or are expecting anyone.

Well, Mr. Hammer. Not everyone is as lucky as you.
But my original point still stands, anywhere but the city is where I'll go. The next question then, is are we going to split up?

I have sent my orders, i will be going to the city along with the party going there. I'm not glad to split the group but if you others can wait at the outpost it would be appreciated.

"I wished it was that simple, Richard, but we are not splitting the party. Simple as that. I say we head towards the outpost. There, we can gather additional information about the guards in Bakerstown and decide whether we send someone to town or not. Until we have decided that, as a group, we will stick together. We don't need anyone to get caught and squeel on us after he's had his fingers broken. Understand?"

Ninosca raises her voice on the two last sentances, straightening herself back up. Dazzler looks uneasy at her newfound temper.

NO. splitting up is the absolute worst thing we could do right now. All for one, one for all. And as I see it right now, all (or the majority of us at least )want to go to the outpost.

Ninosca's plan sounds like the best.

If we split up now, we might never see each other again.

Hangin' around at the outpost for days on end, waitin' to see if the Bakerstown mission makes it back - that'd be just askin' for the Imperials to come find us.

Right now, we have to keep movin'. Could be the soldiers are hot on our trail already. If we split the group, and then try to meet up later, it'll only slow us down.

And what if there ain't no outpost? How the hell we gonna find each other in this here forest, eh?

I say we stick together, and go see if we can find the outpost. If we can't, and the food situation is getting precarious, then we can think about payin' Bakerstown a visit. If we find the outpost, and can pick up some supplies there, then we don't need to risk no trip into town.

OOC: Some characters may know of a "12th person", but there is no way for your characters to find out what happened to that person, short of returning to Areville and finding a corpse.
