Jumpmasters 1B: Power is Knowledge (Vanilla, GOTM mod - Emperor - No research)

Poit taken...

...but you'll want to give some special flavour to our next game. And, no, I was not thinking of an insane variant (à la SGOTM3, just to name a recent case ;) ); now that you have all dropped the silver wings for the golden ones, we need something not to make the game too straightforward for this team... :D

I think we can spice up a deity game a little. Perhaps a Space Race, but you must research at least one future tech before launching? Or maybe a "no slow units" game.

That's it. I mean, remember MB3? The guys over there rolled over deity AIs so easily that Mad wrote at the end: How difficult do I have to make a game to put you people under pressure?

It would break my heart to hear you say that again, you know... ;) :mischief:

I think I may have managed it in SGOTM3 :D

So when shall we start?

I like the future tech space one. Although can't you just hammer everyone down to 33% and keep them around and just milk the rest of the game until you get to future?

Who are we using?
Can we do STD size map or large? No huge maps.

We can call it Gold Wingers in Space (although I still consider myself a Silver + not a true gold)

Sounds like fun! I'm in favour of standard maps myself. Although you could add more civs than normal if "spice" is needed. And waiting for a future tech opens up the possibily of :nuke:s - yay!

Yes you can.... if you're good enough.

I had been discussing with Space the idea of a SG aimed at making some practice towards improving our Space Race finish date, and she mentioned a couple of GOTM/HOF games that we could replay to compare our results with the best ones.

It seems to me that our next deity game is taking shape more or less in that direction, so why not 'launch' it? We can still include some variants if we want...

Well, that's what eventually will happen... ;) I just put forth the idea to see if you liked it, first.
Then maybe Space wants to open the thread herself -I mean, it's her idea in the first place.

Just to give more inputs, the options we could think of are:

1. To replay a past GOTM, for which we have a challenging Space Race finish date. We spotted the following:
1a. GOTM15, Russia; Monarch, no GOTM download necessary
1b. GOTM20, Spain; Deity, requires some downloading
1c. GOTM26, Han; Deity, requires some downloading

2. To hire a mapmaker and kindly ask him to give us the Jason launch date :mischief:

I would be happy with any of the above, and probably even with some other ideas, but maybe someone else has stronger opinions?

I had been discussing with Space
Ok I guess I misunderstood what the meaning of this was. I didn't realize you were talking about a person. Now that I know that your previous post makes a lot more sense to me. I guess I need more :coffee:

My opinions:
1.) I have never played in the GOTM's so I would have no spoiler info (which I consider a good thing)

1a/b/c/ No Preference (downloading no big issue for me now that AlanH helped me out the first time :D )

2.) I actually prefer this if we can find someone fairly inexpensivley to do this :D (although again I like to play with no spoiler info so if MB is playing could we find someone else?)

The jason launch date is a pretty strong hint about who Karasu is talking about... Ainwood

edit: BTW Hello team! :wavey: I hope you don't mind me barging in like this. Like Karasu said we were planning to do a game with a blistering tech speed, just to see what it takes to achieve it, being awed by some of the GOTM submissions.

My fault, really, Mistfit -but I have played almost all my SGs with Space, so I didn't really think that someone else hadn't... :smoke:

I always like the idea of replaying a GOTM (don't know why really), of course each of those three has its pros and cons.
A custom map might also be good -we just need to find a volunteer, and it need not necessarily be Ainwood: once we have the map, we will just beg the staff powers long enough until we get those magic numbers...

All of those sound pretty good to me. I'll express a preference for GOTM20, just because I haven't played Spain before and the Conquistadores sound like fun. GOTM26 starts with 2 settler teams, widely spread out. And I would like to play Deity - if we do GOTM15, could we change the difficulty level? Or would that throw off the game?

I haven't read any of the threads, or played these, so I am "unspoilt." Looking forward to learning how we encourage a fast tech pace!

Hey guys, I just got my power back a few hours ago. Cranked the AC down and put the beer in the freezer and just sat under the ceiling fans. House fared OK no structural damage but tons of limbs down. Family all OK also, my grandparents who live in Melbourne left and went to GA for the storm.

Now the bad news. We may possibly set a record. Ivan is coming too damn close. Don't know how much more damage central florida can take. This could be 3 major hurricanes in a month.

I'll catch up on discussions tomorrow.

EDIT - just caught up. Pushing a fast tech pace sounds very interesting to me. I haven't played any of the above mentioned GOTMs so we could use one of them. I simple fix (from someone who has never put a map together) couldn't we just move the civ locations around? Would the games play differently than the original this way?
