Kal-el's Unit Concept Sketches

Not neccessarily....Think camo of any kind will be possible when soldiers have the ability to scan for lifeform signitures? Granted that won't be anytime soon. Another possibility is armor that makes projectile weapons obsolete like in Frank Herbert's Dune. In that scenerio, army uniforms are no longer drab, for example, House Harnokken's Troops wear bright red and black uniforms, and melee weapons return as the weapon of choice.

OK, so you are talking science FANTASY, not science fiction, where they have science with their fiction. ;)

Yeah mostly. I am in no way saying the US armed forces should start wearing red, white and blue flag colored uniforms with capes instead of their camo fatigues, don't get me wrong(Although I'd argue otherwise if the soldiers somehow became immortal)

But Camo mostly came into the picture because of the increaseingly fast speeds of firearms, primarily the machine gun. Its not inconseivably that some far-future invention or inventions causes warfare to revert back to the colorful, pre-20th century era.

Kal-El, any plans on some Far-Future era soldier conscipt art?

If there are scanners for life signs then there will be counter measures against those scanners. And it is always smart to try and protect yourself from visual recognition. Not every enemy will have the latest and greatest in technology. You have to prepare to fight against all tech levels in order to be truly effective.

Shields that stop projectiles would only be a phase in the development of projectiles. That's how weapons evolve. Someone makes an impenetrable armor and then somebody figures out a way to get through it.

I thought these guys were pretty far future/ science-fantasy:

The other thing is that if a projectile cannot penetrate the armor, why in the world would a melee weapon be able to?

If you have less speed, it ultimately means less force even if the mass of the melee weapon is greater because it will be distributed over a larger affected area thus negating the mass benefit.

That is very good. Can't wait for that one :D

Well, sort of. I call that my Wu Kong Sun battle armor. It is based on the Monkey King, but it's armor not a robot. :) And, yeah, that's a staff not bat. :) You just can't see the other end of it.

are you saying my drawings are drab? or not drab? the position of the clause "not drab" would indicate that it is refering to my drawings, but I assume, in looking at my multi-colored powered suits, that you have simply a misplaced modifier. :D

Ooh.. I like that resistance fighter! Could pass for an Irish Replican Armyman!
Great sketches, Kal-El, BTW... :)
