Kerbal Space Program

I just gotta keep track of my intercepts and everything should be good! I think. Missions like these seem more efficient than assembling a larger craft in orbit and then sending that 1 giant thing for me - you could send a lander, a return craft, one ship with maybe a bunch of unmanned probes, maybe one with a spaceplane.. I saw an "alarm clock" mod that alerts you of upcoming events.. I'm not sure if you have to preprogram them in or if it automatically warns you of upcoming intercepts in the game, but if it does that.. I should be golden.. Even if it doesn't, I think with a max of 5 ships and a couple days in between intercepts, it should be fairly manageable. Maybe I'll try a mission to Eve with 3 ships next time to see if I know what I'm talking about.

There's more updates on the latest from the developers in terms of what's coming in 0.19, later, and what they've been working on.

Very detailed and worth checking out. I would paste it all in here, but it would lose all the formatting, plus they include a lot of links and screenshots and such for a lot of the entries

edit: This is how I feel right now

but I have 3 missions in progress in the Duna system that I need to wrap up first. Maybe I'll have time for that tonight.

K so there were actually 4 Duna missions going on at the same time eventually: 2 kerbonauts around Ike mapping it and looking for anomalies, 2 kerbonauts in orbit around Duna after a successful anomaly investigation (making it 2/3), 1 kerbonaut stuck in the middle of nowhere, 1 kerbonaut in a tipped over small lander that probably wouldn't have enough fuel to get back to Kerbin (but would be able to get into orbit - I was going to transfer the kerbonauts and make them hold onto the ladder of the other ship for the ride back, but didn't really know if that was even going to work. It was plan D), and an empty lander that had a tiny amount of fuel left. One of the original inhabitants of that lander ended up in the rover that's at the 'almost exact' coordinates of where anomaly 3 is supposed to be, and the other one blew up somewhere. Both of the landed missions were looking for the same thing - the third anomaly that just didn't seem to be found.

Who was it that asked me about one of the anomalies and if I could find it? Thorgalaeg? Well, nope, I found the one on the southern ice cap, the one in the northern hemisphere, but the one in between just wasn't there. I got frustrated and googled the exact coordinates after spending a couple hours every couple days for a couple days driving around with the rover and attempting to find it. That giant crater? I drove around half of that rim. Then in the end ended up pretty much at the exact coordinates.. and.. there's nothing, in all directions. I looked very carefully. I did extensive sweeps and there was nothing. I fastforwarded to see if the thing only comes out at night. My investigation was very rigorous by even Kerbal standards , and yeah, I couldn't find anything. One day I may tray again - as that rover remains in that very spot. But for now.. It's time for Eve and a crazy idea that I have.

For those about to say "you need to turn up the first graphical setting to max", I did that, and that's how I eventually found the 2nd anomaly. Same thing - I was at the exact spot and it wasn't there.. Turns out I landed basically right beside it.

So after giving up with the 3rd anomaly, I decided to just screw it and see who I could get home.

Spoiler :
This was the best I could do though with the tipped over lander, so I couldn't even try plan D. Got the classic "Scanning the planet for any sign of ants capt'n!" shot before exploding.

So then the ship in orbit around Ike and the ship in orbit around Duna plotted intercepts home. The ship around Ike got in orbit around Duna first and then tried to slingshot out using Ike.. but.. I fastforwarded too much with a periapsis of 4k and smashed into Ike instead. whoops.

The only surviving mission ended up needing 666 (.3) m/s for the burn to get home. And then this happened.

They barely got home, too. I had to use quite a bit of RCS fuel to get into the atmosphere and force re-entry. I'm moving onto Eve now, I think, had enough fun mapping and exploring anomalies in the Duna system. Plus I think it's posessed by satan

I finally just googled it and found what is supposed to be there:

Spoiler :
Designation: D-002 "Buried Rover"
Location: 30º 20' 31'' S 388º 48' 40'' W
JBcSZ.png

Description: D-002 is an unidentified rover's camera mast buried approximately 25m underground. While the body of the rover is mysteriously absent, the mast continues to transmit a strong video feed. The feed is heavily corrupted due to the dense soil layer between the rover and the surface, but a black rectangle is clearly distinguishable in the lower left hand corner of the image. While excavations are currently underway, it is estimated that it will take at least three months to completely uncover the mast. Until direct interaction with the mast is possible, a dedicated team of video analysts will be constantly monitoring the state of the video feed. It should be noted that the mast does not have access to any power storage or transmission systems, and as a result it is suspected that the signal may be originating from further underground. The mast does not match any known rover designs, and scans have detected several unknown alloys and materials. It is assumed to be extraterrestrial in origin.
So i still dont know if it is a bug or the thing is buried 25 meters underground and only a video signal can be detected. :dunno: Of all anomalies in all the planetary system i had to search first for the most irritant one.

Other people have reported seeing that thing there, and there have been screenshots. Eventually I caved in and googled the coordinates like I said - that's when I learned what it was.

I have a manned rover @ 30º 20' 37'' S 388º 48' 52'' W and there is nothing there. That is almost basically exactly at the coordinates (30º 20' 31'' S 388º 48' 40'' W), so something is up. Maybe things changed in 0.18.4 and the thing got buried? Either way I am leaving my rover there and maybe at some point returning there, once I have some answers. Maybe there's a trick to finding it? Cause you know what? Even though my coordinates are right on (basically), my mapsat is telling me that I am off. But the thing is that even if I go 20km in one direction, it doesn't change - it's always telling me that I'm in the same spot.. unless I switch to timewarp x2, in which case my location magically switches to be right over the anomaly. That's why it took me days driving around in the rover to get there and why I had to google the coordinates in the end - the terrain doesn't lend well to what I have been doing with all the anomalies.. (which is 1. Look at terrain on elavation map, 2. compare to real map, 3. make decision on which direction to drive in based on that).. That whole crater just doesn't show up as an elevation change map, so without exact coordinates it was a lot of guesswork -and like I said I ended up driving halfway around that damn crater rim. The coordinates didn't even make it easier to get there since I don't have a coordinate GPS helper on my rover, only a mapsat thing. So I've had to jump back and forth between mission control to see the coordinates, and the rover. Very tedious.

So yeah, as you can see I put quite a lot of effort into this  .. So I'm moving on onto Eve - I will map it, will map Gilly, and send down unmanned rovers to explore any anomalies that are found.. To Eve at least. I've never done an unmanned rover so that's new to me. I also might try docking together a larger ship in orbit for this mission, I am not sure. I have a "weird" idea for this, but so far my designs make me think I should go with something a bit more traditional, tested, and true. So we'll see, but for now I am done with the Duna system

Hey, 0.19 just came out

summary of all changes said:
- A Native Linux version!
- Added visual (and sound) effects for re-entry and supersonic flight.
- Overhauled the Kerbal Face Expression System with new animations, which are also visible on EVA.
- Added wheel parts and modules for the construction of rovers.
- Added several new general purpose structural parts.-
- New mesh for the launch pad area, now with 100% less launch tower.
- New mesh for the Runway, with sloping edges to drive on and off it.

Bug Fixes and Tweaks:
- The sun no longer shines from below on ships and scenery objects at night, or while in orbit over the dark side of a planet.
- Fixed the airspeed sound not looping properly, and adjusted the pitch range for it.
- Various minor balance tweaks.
- More texture variety added to probe cores, to better determine their positioning.
- Fixed a few objects that were on the wrong layer.
- Fixed an issue when comparing versions, which could result in false 'incompatible' warnings.
- Fixed an issue with velocity changes when resuming 1x time while on a hyperbolic orbit inside a rotating reference frame.
- Changed the debug toolbar key combo to ModifierKey+F12 (RShift+F12 by default)
- Changed the quick scenario loader key combo to ModifierKey+F10 (was Ctrl+F10 before)
- Removed an unused shader that caused the game to crash on Linux systems with AMD video drivers.
- The Alt modifier key is now remappable, and defaults to RightShift on Linux.
- Remapped all ocurrences of the Alt key to RightShift on Linux (as Alt is OS-reserved on most distros).
- Fixed double-clicks not working properly.
- Added a setting to tweak the mouse wheel axis scaling.
- Input Axes now support linear scaling.
- The Debug console can now also be toggled using the Grave and AltGr keys

And the servers are broken

edit: and back up a few minutes after I posted

So here's my first space station (with new parts) specifically designed for small probe docking

And here it is docked with my first probe (docked with no ASAS, booyeah)

 These guys are a serious thing. They are launching new releases quickly.

BTW are those solid steel beams the new struts? Looks more suitable to build several story buildings than spaceships.

More than new parts got added.

Spoiler Re-entry :

That station was a bit ambitious, 110 parts in space weighing in at 15 tons, and my launch vehicle couldn't quite deliver — hence the re-entry :(

Here's its younger, slimmer, sexier cousin

Those Mark III wheels are gigantic!
...just about right to make one giant rocket that can drive on mun! :D

Goddamnit I didn't even get to use the last version at all.

Oh well. Oh and now my stations are all deleted and such, which means I failed the Mars Mission challenge.

At least I have a week off next week to try out all the new stuff.

Oh and Warpus, very cool mission and write-up.

Don't worry, challenge still stands for the next version. ;)

I don't have spring break anymore since I became a real adult (TM), but I'll try to give this version a go one weekend.

I am not sure I want to redo all of that work until they make docking easier, so I don't mind being labled a failure. I really wanted to finish it and I may end up reloading .18.2 just to do that over spring break. On the other hand, there's lots of new stuff to do in .19 and being as it's been so long since I've played it, I kind of look forward to trying all the new stuff.

It just sucks because not only did I lose that particular challenge, I also lost my other space station, my 5-part Mun base, my Jool system probe, my lander on Laythe, my to-be-rescued Kerbin on Eve, my expedition on Eve's asteroid moon, etc. There was a lot of work all down the drain.

And yeah, Idon't mind rebuilding most of it - but all the things that took docking to do I'm going to probably not bother with rebuilding. I'm only going to dock as I have too, because like I've whined about continuously, it's a chore and not fun at this state of the game.

Those huge wheels are awesome. Now i must think some sort of huge rover and launch it somewhere. So a lot of problems... :D

I ought to get back into KSP but I'm just annoyed at the performance when you get enough parts on screen. I assembled a Mars Express ship to head to Duna in orbit but it started getting choppy.

What version was it? Performance got better in last relesses.

Yeah, they've been working on this issue a lot in the last few releases and it isn't nearly as big a deal as it used to be. A bigger issue is wobble that makes large combined ships unusable. I'm not sure they have fixed this yet, but it's another reason why I'm giving up my Duna mission - it was so wobbly as to be unusable and it was only half finished. I didn't really want to install a mod to deal with that, but then again the mod they showed me was pretty cool.

Have you tried copy-paste the new one in top of your current instalation?
