Kerbal Space Program

Might have been one of the krakens (note: they aren't actually krakens, but bugs that players have named kraken).

Did you leave it on a time accelerated mode? On time-acceleration, the game takes some shortcuts with the delta_t increments that can cause orbits to change when nothing else is acting on the craft. It could have been an impact with debris as well, but that is incredibly unlikely.

I tried to built a smallest SSTO i could think of and it turned out to work better then I thought it would. I was surprised how easy it was to get to orbit.
I guess my initial approach to SSTO's was wrong (although this isn't my 1st working one), simpler is better.

It has only two Rockomax 24-77 (those orange radial engines) for rocket engines.
A big advantage of having only one turbojet engine is that you don't asymmetric
flame out.

That looks like a pretty nifty pack.

I really want heat shields and fairings added to the base game.

Heat shields are coming eventually but I haven't heard anything about fairings.. They better eventually add them!

I also like how realistic what I linked looks.. If vanilla KSP looked more like that, I think it'd be a lot more engaging.

Anyone else a fan of the 'carriage style' method of payload delivery?

I also made that name up on the fly, I'm sure it must have a real conceptual name for it.

Instead of attempting to land on Eve like I said in my last post, I decided to start a new save game and try out career mode for the first time.

After successfully sending a rocket to the Mun and back, I sent a science base piloted by Bill and started taking some screenshots. Nothing overly special about it, as I've been to the Mun many times, I just thought that this trip looked particularly nice.

To start, putting Mun Base Alpha into orbit around the Mun.

On descent I was aiming for a crater, but spotted something in the distance.

After quickly altering course, managed to put the base down right beside the arch

Bill naturally placed a flag on top of it

And in case you are wondering why my Mun base has parachutes, it was in case I wanted to attempt to send it back to Kerbin. But considering all of the fuel I used to get it by the arch, I think the fuel reserves are too low to accomplish that.

My internet at home is out until monday, so I think I'm going to spend some time sending missions to places I haven't been to yet..

So my options are a land and return Moho mission, ditto for Eeloo, or Vall and/or Pol. I guess I might try Moho first?

I have a career mode going with about 40% of everything unlocked, but it's getting kinda boring..

Stretchy Tanks new release is fantastic.

First, say goodbye to all those adapters and utility mods cluttering up your GameData folder. Squeeze your tank down (or up) to size to fit anything, and carry fuel or monopropellant or leave it empty as a structural fuselage (less weight than many adapters).

Second, say goodbye to all your part mods for extra fuel tanks and SRBs, they're obsolete. Keep engines around, though. They've found more use :)

Mainsail bottom, Skipper center for reference. The SRBs have ~2,000 units of fuel.

Extra AIES Vulcans producing 50 thrust per unit gives this stage superb power. The bottom measures 3 meters in diameter to include room for the extra engines.

Also, the Alternis Universe makes everything a bit closer, a bit newer, with new art. It's pretty swell.

Jeb with a beautiful Mun landing while sciencing a new biome. Naturally he broke one of the solar panels when he exited the craft to get surface samples.

Jeb, Bill, and Bob ran out of fuel attempting to leave the Mun and got stuck in orbit around it. Since their lander didn't have any docking ports on it, there was only one solution. A rocket with girders to hold the lander in place.

That's a creative solution.

I ended up building my "family van" for this purpose, with 6 external seats on a lightweight nuclear-powered frame to move my crew back to one of the two major stations in orbit Kerbol.

The picture is dark and it's hard to tell what's going on. Is the payload between the two boosters?

Paging Massah Hobbs... :mischief:

Lol sorry I missed this. There is no name for it IRL AFAIK. It's not a thing.

What's the benefit cardgame?

The benefit in KSP is not having your payload snap off the rest of your rocket, or wobbles, or anything else undesirable, plus extra thrust in a new, better aesthetic than asparagus.

Question : What would cause a mission to blow up in space. I had a two-Kerbal mission that ran out of fuel. The orbit was losing about 30-50m at each perigee. I wanted see how long it would take for it to decay and attempt to land. They had been up for a few days. I left the game running and when I came back the end of flight summary was on the screen. Every event said it crashed on the launch pad. But the screen showed space with an altitude of about 300000m. So I think it blew up in space. I had a simultaneous mission that I forgot about. When I checked on that it instantly blew up in space and the termination summary came up. Same thing about crashing on the launch pad. I know the orbits were close, but did not intercept. I'm wondering it the first mission orbit path decayed to the point that the two missions intercepted. Or did battery die and the mission terminate? I have several satellites in orbit, and they are all still functioning. Any idea what happened to my two missions?

I'd chalk this one up to the Kraken.
