KK-06 -- The Special One

I thought that if we go for another worker first, we won't improve too many useful tiles (capital's already been improved quite a bit), as opposed to having a settler first and land grabbing/setting up the third city.

Then again, a worker first will help the settler afterwards by chopping trees, so your idea seems better.

All right, I change my mind. (edited)

Fire up the save, everything looks fine, lets get this started.

Turn 3 (2300BC)-Medina is Founded, starts work on a Barracks as its a production city
Have to adjust Sci down to 80% not to bankrupt us

Turn 6(2225BC)-AH is in, Sci to Writing
Mecca is now Size 4, work is switched to a Settler

Turn 9(2150BC)-Roosevelt has Horses

Turn 11(2100BC)-Mecca gets another border pop. The Great Wall and Stonehedge are built in distant lands

Turn 12(2075BC)-We get the following random event (good thing we actually have over 10 gold now because of Stonehedge)
random_event_2075.JPG

Turn 15(2000BC)-Pigs are online, Mecca is a Food Factory. Worked headed to get the Copper online

Turn 17(1950BC)-Settler built, headed to East for commerce city. Mecca starts on a Worker

Turn 19(1900BC)-Damascus founded, starts on a Warrior

Turn 22(1825BC)-Writing is in, Research to Iron Working

Turn 23(1800BC)-Mecca finishes worker, starts on Settler 3. Worker headed to Road up Ivory.

And thats it, I stopped after 25 turns (1750BC). Here is our lands:

Looks like Roosevelt is also hemmed in on the north. This could get ugly between us.

And of course:

The Save

Early stone is always great. And Roosevelt's resources are not the same as ours at all, so once we take over his lands  we won't be overlapping resources. Lets get that bronze mined ASAP and go for an Axe rush if we can.

p.s.: we should hurry before Roosevelt gets-a-choppin

beeline for optics then, I don't know the amount of calender resources we posses, otherwise try to get confu could be a good idea?

Good stuff glenmetz

Seems like the axe rush is the way to go and the optics beeline. I would add a sword or two to the axes as swords are sometime better at cracking cities with archers.

We can Open Borders with Roosevelt to check out the lay of his land. We also need some defenders as if he decides to archer rush us right now we've got nothing. :p We also should have someone to protect the settler when he goes to the new city site.

We'll need to put some labels on the new cities to remind us the types. Glad to see that Medina is building the barracks as production cities are supposed too. Damascus will have to do the Madrassa nothing before it can build a barracks as it must prioritise the Science Gold City buildings. See what happens when there's no tags. ;)

What's the consensus for the 4th city? If I have to put my money where my mouth is then I'd pick the location below and designate it hybrid [prepares to be shot down in flames].
Spoiler 4th city location :
KK-06City4.jpg

Roster:
- Kikinit
- Robo Kai
- glenmetz -- Just played
- pat4 -- Up
- Xyqtt -- On deck
- omglazers

pat4, you can play 20 turns +/- a few.

I think we should go for the (coastal please!) corn & bronze site. It's closer, so it won't cost as much.

I agree, let's evict roosevelt from OUR continent , then rush to optics and prove the world is round.

I love this thread. So much healthy discussion and active posters sharing ideas. I believe I will learn much from this SG.

EDIT: Also with that Stone, we just might be able to grab the Pyramids for Representation. That can wait until after the axe rush though (when we're left alone and all's right with the world). The Pyramids tend to get built quite late, after all. Not Parthenon late though...

I actually don't bother with shortcuts, I just zoom out and hit the "strategy layer" button, then click "Add Sign" :D

Other thoughts:
1. I'd put a city on/near the hilly area someday, though fill it with windmills.
2. Back to the pyramids, I think at least one of Roosey's cities should have tons of trees around it. Pick one, chop there.
3. I would still go for Optics first. We can always backfill Code of Laws later even if we didn't get a religion. And after all, meeting more civs speeds up tech research and gives us tech trading options as well. Metal Casting, Compass and Optics are after all, excellent trade bait.

Idea for tech goals:
0. Writing (we must have it now? whip lib and start scientists soon after last agreed settler)
1. Optics
2. CoL
3. Literature (GLib)
4. Math -> Civil Service (Bureaucracy is not as needed that soon, we still need to move the capital as GP farm capital is hardly ideal)
5. Liberalism (Astronomy as free tech)

I would put a city ar the bronze/corn site.
That leaves us the option to settle horses/pigs/wine

I veto the mids, we would start to late, and waste lotsa hammers if we start to build after war with roosevelt. As we need at least 8-10 axes and a few swordsman. Don't know how well defended Roosevelt is,don't see culture in his second? city, but I mostly try to get 3 times the unit a defending city has.

It stinsk that commerce city shoudl be split in gold or science, seeing we are using the tech slider to produce research you really can't make. So it is more a science city then a gold city so madrassa it is :P And I would more like to make it an sceince city, otherwise we should assign merchants instead of sceintist, adn I think reserach is more important imho

With the science and gold cities, it only means they need to prioritise the buildings for their designation. Doesn't mean they can't build other buildings when they've got nothing else to do.

Sorry about the confusion with the shortcuts. ALT+S places a sign. CTRL-S quick saves your game.

Science City: a city focused on generating beakers.
Gold City: a city focused on generating gold.

So this means we must assign merchants in gold cities and must assign scientist in sciences cities? Seeing the une purseus gold and the other beakers. So when we make it a gold city, it means we first must run max merchants before we can run scientist? It's specialization

I was thinking about that but I think the rules are complicated enough already. I think in reality, because we build the science buildings in a science city, we'll have more science spots open to use and similarly for gold cities with merchants but there is no restriction in my rules.

I also think that it makes sense when you've got lots of science buildings you want to run science specialists as their base beakers will get higher multipliers and similarly for merchants in money cities.

Ok got save will have it back around 3(Gmt) tomorrow.

Btw, how do you do screenshots, it's always something I wanted to learn for sg's.

I say build science buildings in cities first as for the most part we will be +50% on science slider. Gold improvements can come later.

Lurker's comment:
Press the print screen button on your keyboard, it should automatically save it under your own files (My Games -> BTS -> Screenshots). Then upload it to the net, you can use sites like www.imageshack.us where you can also scale it for the forums (or just crop before uploading with MS Paint, if you're not lazy).

Well I just played the most uneventful 30 turns of civ in my life. I founded Baghdad, scouted America and that was about it. I don't know if this early war is really beneficial in the long run. Our workers are running around with nothing to do.

Heres a screeny of America, there pretty strong about 5 or 6 archers for just 3 cities.http://
