Knights of Honor

Might as well add that trade was booming for the Northern kingdom. :smug: I had two kingdom advantages (Crop Rotation and another one that I can't remember) and 4 vassalages from crusades. The Pope was also in my royal court.

Starting a new game today, on "hard" difficulty. "Normal" just wasn't that challenging.

1: How many times must you upgrade a cleric so that he can become Pope? Or how do you get your cleric to become Pope basically?
2: How long did this game of yours take? Sounds like it took quite a while.

I think I'll be Sicily first in the full US version. Naples would be my first victim.

I see a couple of advantages. I start out small, and I can catch some invaders coming via sea. I also have a foothold on the mainland.

He was a fully educated cleric, 5 stars, and when the pope died, he became the new one. :) I don't know how, you have to ask the cardinals about that one. :p There was a message that said "The pope died and now your cleric is the pope".

Yah indeed... I got really caught up in it, played several hours/day for about a week or so. Mind you, I didn't finish it properly due to too many wars (low kingdom power = kingdoms declare war on you CONSTANTLY) so a real game could carry on for a long long time. Hopefully I'll LAN it with some friends this weekend! :D

I think the five stars helped. ;)

Who were you vassals and what provinces did you take? I recall you expanding South, so Germany and Denmark were victims?

Darn, I might get the British version because I can't wait! Then again, I can't stand "Colur" and "Honour"

I conquered all of Norway and Denmark (yay go me!) and most of present day Germany, Poland, Belgium and Netherlands. Also had some chunks of Austria, Switzerland, France... :p Also a wee bit into Russia and the Baltic states.

With only 4 marshals it gets very stressful, sending them all across Europe time and time again. Had game speed set to 0.5 constantly.

Only had two vassalages, provinces formed after my marshals went on crusades. I granted one of them independence and my Kingdom Power dropped to -5. So far my best KP has been 0. :p

I really like this game. Obviously. :p

Why haven't you increased Kingdom power? I do it immediately, when it's cheap to do.

yeah a +5 kingdom power gives you -15 rebellion chance, and a boost to your gold.

When you start out I always hire like 6 merchants and get Kingdom Power to 5 asap. I will normally try to have one major ally with maybe a wedding and we will have the best relationship (united) and you try not to do things that hurt your KP. If you have a situation when you must drop it one way or the other, do the better thing, even if it means lower kingdom power. Remember, you can always increase kingdom power back but you can't always mend a broken relationship.

In the early game I allocate my gold strictly towards buildings and armies. Promote the royal family to merchants, that's about it. Later in the game I raise my KP to 0 all the time (since I keep on breaking deals and such :p) and I have a hard time to find enough piety to raise KP. When I take a new town, I immideately (sp?) take over management and it costs piety. In the game I'm currently playing I'm taking new towns like crazy so as soon I have enough piety I take over management in one town, and usually 3-4 more are waiting to be "assimilated". I would very much like to have a positive KP but I for now I'll have to settle for not having a negative one.

In my next game I won't sign alliances... :ack:

How many Kingdom Advantages have you guys earned?

get KP in the begining when its cheaper and you can afford it. It will make your game easier trust us.

I don't have any gold to allocate towards KP in the beginning. How can you afford that? Don't you buy armies and build buildings? Am I starting with less cash?

Well I also rarely have enough cash at the begginig to afford KP but i slowly save up for it. And usualy I dont start building Armies until I have money to spend and lots of it. and if you have enough happiness you can double their taxes. and you can get happiness from kingdom Power. usually I get 2 KP and double their taxes. Eventually you can get enough money for KP.

Here's the plan... If you start out small normally no one will attack you very quick (in my experience with the demo). Also, at the beginning always make royal family merchants and whenever you get 1000 more gold get another merchant until you get like 5. Then get your kingdom power. Also, make lots of trade agreements with like the top ten best ones but only make like one of two alliances with people whom you can trust. Once you have those upgrades you can start on armies. Also, whenever possible build a building even if it means waiting another few minutes to hire another merchant, because buildings take forever to build...

As for happiness, all you really must do is marry off your heir/heirs and this will tremendously increase happiness by like 9 and slowly decrease. Until the number gets to like 1 or 2 (the bad side of happiness) double taxes. Also, build inns, and all things that increase happiness. KP is the easiest way to increase happiness.

Also @WickedSmurf in the demo I think it's impossible to get a kingdom advantage.
1. The area you start out never has enough things.
2. No one close has all the required elements.
3. You can't build any advanced buildings.
Basically without the real game you can't get any.

The best thing to do in the very beginning is to demand gold from every nation. Hurts relations, but you can always mend those

Ah so you all are playing the demo? I'm the only one playing the full game?

yep i guess so but the principle is the same except you can do more stuff. and i have found demanding gold usually works. I always demand gold from faraway small powerless countries, who cant do anything to me.

It actually is pretty much the 1-3 province countries, and they almost always comply. The highest they can pay, which is sometimes only 200 but even that helps. sometimes i get a couple thousand and that helps alot.
