KoS6 - Miss World Pageant: "And World Peace"

I wouldn't bother mining York - it's a sucky city. We will move the capital (possibly to the copper spot) so I'd just milk it for commerce for now.

What are the axes for?

Okay, no axes for now. I deduce that the currently queued barracks are basically placeholders to be able to grow while building something other than more military (warriors...)?

Will try to play in about 12 hrs from now. Not sure yet if I can make it though.

Resuming:
York: hire 2 scientists when hitting size 5. Continue rax.
Canterbury: grow to 4 in 1 turn, resume worker-production. After worker, settler.
Warwick: Grow. Whip the lib whenever possible.
Settle 1W of copper. Granary->lib (whip when possible).

Workers: All to Warwick and Copperspot.
Resume science when Warwick has its lib whipped.

Went pretty much according to plan. Played a turn extra until aesthetics came in.

T92 Hatty offers agri for meditation, declined as we should not spend WFYABTA on that.

T94 Newcastle founded 1W of copper (see later pic)

T95 No, we don't think Newcastle should rightfully pass to Hatty.

T96 Izzy wants us to cancel deals with Cathy. We fear Cathy more than Izzy so say no.

T101 We're the most vulgar chick on the block (least culture), horse-loving Cathy is top dog in this department. Aesthetics comes in. Cathy just finished it as well. Only small techs available in trade, only interesting one would be math but HG is likely unbuilt as nobody wants to trade it. Queued currency.

Notes:
York will become unhappy next turn unless we stagnate it or start a worker or settler. Or whip it.
Canterbury is some turns away from finishing a settler, it could be whipped now.
Warwick, had it on research for some turns to finish aesthetics just a bit sooner, tentatively switched to settler.
Newcastle busy on a granary, lib presumably next.

From the worker front, we connected all cities and have iron online. Pasturing evermore pigs now.

For new settling areas this terrain shot.

I'd settle around where that warrior is for the 2 pigs and the marble. Maybe try to squeeze in banana or the silk at the bottom. Boudica is likely eyeing the site as well as that gallic warrior has been there stationary for some turns already. Boudi captured the barb city in the north by the way. So maybe Warwick's settler can go for this spot (whip it) while Canterbury's settler could fill the space between the eastern and western rims of our burgeoning little empire.

Settling plan sounds good to me. Block off our territory so we can backfill at our leisure.

Got it, here's my PPP:

T0: Newcastle switches to monument. Set research to poly--literature.

T1: York grows to unhappy, switch to worker and use pig tile.

T4: Canterbury finishes settler, swap to worker. Settle the northern "spawnbust" marker.

T6: Warwick finishes settler - send to settle banana/pigs if it's available. Otherwise settle the southern part of that river. Build a worker in Warwick. Newcastle finishes monument and returns to granary.

T7: York finishes GS. No idea what to do with it...

Enlighten me, unless you want to 2-pop whip it, why would you start a worker in York just after it goes unhappy? Better start on it now, as unhappy citizens also eat food (the bastards!) and thus make the worker build longer. :)

And if we really want a monument in Newcastle, why not whip it on turn 1. We'll have the border pop sooner and some overflow for the granary.

Personally might be inclined to 2-pop whip the settler in Warwick, rather not lose the race towards the banana/pigs/marble area.

GS, settle in our future capital? Don't know if that will be Warwick or Newcastle though...

The unhappy citizen doesn't eat food when you're building a settler/worker if there is ample food to feed the city.

I was thinking an academy might be more useful since we'll likely build the GL in our future capital too.

T4
Canterbury can build research for 1 turn to grow to allow a 2-pop whip of worker.

T6
I'd hurry up the settler by a whip maybe on T1 to have a better shot at the western city area.

Move back yellow dot 1W as Hatty got the crabs in her second ring. This way we get to work on the marble at least.

As soon as we have the west area and blocked Hatty we can rest a little easier :) As our early game was quite delayed, rushing a few more settlers should help in the long run.

If we want TGL -> switch research to Literature

Academy: Warwick looks like our best food city with 3 pigs [that 7 pigs+clams city would be insane] and some decent production

Academy:
Warwick's the best city, yes. If we settled 2E of the southern marble, we'd have a decent cottage city, with also marble and silk. That would maybe take too long to set up?

I think we should try for TGL and build it in Warwick.

Whip the settler. Boudica will beat us otherwise.

Ok, I'll send the GS to Warwick for an academy. Do we want 0% slider in the interim? Or just go tech at break even towards literature? Aesthetics has spread somewhat and almost all the AI have marble so I'd rather go break even towards literature to make sure we get a good shot at the GL.

The unhappy citizen doesn't eat food when you're building a settler/worker if there is ample food to feed the city.
Didn't know that, but tested it and you're right of course. The things you can still learn after nearly half a decade with this game. :) Still, it feels like a bug to me, why would you suddenly get 2 bonus food when working on a worker or settler, I ask myself.

Anyway, I still wonder what's the rationale behind growing to unhappiness first. Okay you don't lose anything, but you don't win anything either, still the same number of tiles worked. Or do you? Has it to do with whipping possibilities?

Whipping unhappy citizens is better than whipping working citizens.
It's worth growing a bit to happy cap+1 if it doesn't take too long to whip settlers/workers.

It definitely is a bug :)

It's a bizarre bug helpful bug. If the happy cap +1 is an even number, it's very useful for whipping purposes. I'll probably end up whipping the worker anyways.

Everything went to plan, except that I accidentally put one turn of research into currency at the start. Oops.

Our economy is hurting:

I think we should settle the GS in Warwick (likely spot for the GL). We're not falling too far behind in tech because of the crappy (?) land though:

10 resources in the BFC, I've seen worse!

I think there's another detail you forgot regarding the save! :mischief:
