KoS6 - Miss World Pageant: "And World Peace"

Actually on second thought, we're at the bottom of the map. I think we can spawn bust the buggers using just well placed warriors. So how about wheel--pottery and we start building a settler after the overflow warrior.

If we can avoid archery all the better. Maybe we can grow to size 4 first while building an extra warrior (after the overflow warrior) and then start on settler? It seems the spots we're looking for are not that strongly contested and I would feel better with an extra fogbuster.

At size 4 we can work pig, clam, lake and the mined tundra hill. Yay. If I'm not mistaken a mined tundra hill is 3 hammers, so at least with the city tile hammer and the imp bonus we draw 2 hammers extra when building the settler. Yay. :)

I'll be away from tomorrow until the 29th but I guess I won't be up before then. If I would, skip/swap me. Maybe I can access the forums but surely not play.

Sorry, I was away without much internet for a few days.

Skipping Archery when possible is always nice research-wise so I'm game to try it with our narrow land strip. Plan sounds fine so go ahead when you want to play.

Well, it's a slow start. We're at T31 and only just completing the second warrior, with the first one wandering off beyond fogbust range. The capital is quite poor. If you guys think you can do with warriors - fine.

It only takes one barb archer coming in, though... :dunno:

 I had already played by the time you guys posted responses:

Ok, that was quick and uneventful (literally four minutes of hitting enter).

We meet this competitor:

No idea where she is though.

And the land:

The worker is roading towards the oasis site. There's a spot to the west that looks pretty

good too. Unfortunately our capital sucks so it'll take forever to build another settler. The western warrior should start heading back to York to spawnbust.

Since shyuhe and kossin got swapped, I guess that's what the roster looks like now.

Got it. Only a quick look tonight, but I think the city just to the west of our capital should be settled on the jungle/desert. Not only does it quickly rid us of jungle that will gain us nothing when we clear it, but it lets us build a lighthouse and make the freshwater lakes tiles nice and tasty.

I must concur with happyturtle. Her proposed site gains a second hill in the BFC, boosting the city's hammer output. The extra food in the lakes from the lighthouse is sure to be vital for the city's growth on to said hill. It loses the silk, but that's calendar - we won't be getting it for a while anyway, so no big loss, and the oasis site also has silk anyways. While it does overlap with the capital's BFC, the overlap is all of a tundra and peak, so it doesn't really matter. I notice that it also loses a lakeside jungled grassland, but that jungle would need to be chopped down before farming or cottaging it. If farmed, it would give 3f, which is the same as the total extra food granted in the lakes when the city builds a lighthouse (one per lake, three lakes = 3f). Otherwise, it would be one cottage. A late starter for the early cottages.

But of course the oasis site comes first.

As for planning, well, settler in 2 in the capital, I suggest a worker afterwards. The city won't grow yet, but with how much food we have, it will grow in three turns - onto unimproved tiles. So we should get that second worker out since we will be having 2 cities in like 6 turns. Then that new worker should mine the forested tundra hill S of the capital. Then we could start on a new settler after getting another pop three turns after the worker is built, have the chop go into that, and the new pop working the mine, should speed it up nicely. Of course, we are lacking for warriors, so we might instead want the chop to go into some of them. What do you guys think?

Oh and for tech I suggest Switch to Mysticism -> Finish Sailing -> Masonry? so that the oasis city can get started on a Monument right away (new city in ~6t, Myst in 4t), and to hook up that marble, maybe even build the Great Wall (in the oasis city) to keep those nasty barbs out.

York has no food and doesn't need a worker. It only needs a lighthouse next. Mysticism followed by sailing sounds good. I wouldn't bother with masonry yet. York can build the necessary fog busters while Oasis grows.

PPP:

Change to Myst > Sailing

York: Settler, Warrior, Lighthouse, Settler
Oasis: Monument, Granary

Bring western warrior back to York, while scouting the northern part of the potential city site shyuhe marked.

Input wanted. I'm not at my A game today.

No need to bring the warrior all the way back to York - just park it on the forest 2E of the coastal pigs to the south. We just want an advance scout position for any invading archers.

T43: Switch to Mysticism, upgrade warrior to Woodman for faster healing, rename him to Woody

T45: Settler in. Build a warrior.

t46: Woody is healed, starts back for spawnbusting duties

t47: Forest fire. I pay the 10 gold to save the hammers.

t48: Canterbury is founded, and starts on a monument. Worker is roading the deer, but watching for that lion.

t51: Lost a warrior.

t54: Sailing is in. Switch to Lighthouse in York, start researching masonry.

Writing -> Alphabet next, I guess. IW is iffy because Iron might not even exist on this map, and I guess we could just snag Masonry in a trade.

By the way, upon opening the save, it said that The Boobs Boudica was willing to OB, she already has Writing, then, so we should probably catch up there.

I put masonry for that marble in Oasis. It'll be more productive than either a desert hill or a tundra hill.

I dunno, we're kinda food-poor in the capital. I mean, I guess we could whip that lighthouse into existence and get started on more warriors, but that's probably it.

I didn't whip so that there wouldn't be any whip anger when it was time to whip the lighthouse. Probably another of my not-so-great moves, as my brain seems to have taken a few days off. :crazyeye:

We should revolt to slavery and whip the lighthouse and monument. They're both urgent buildings.

York can build another settler or worker at size 3 then. Canterbury should just grow.
