Anyways, mongols are a lot of fun on Earth18, from my experience, so that gets my vote.

Also if you use the Earth34 map, maybe you could quickly jump to MODS --> Earth 34 Civs 3.17 --> and then copy and rename whichever one you want, and then open it with notepad and quickly change all the leaders' names with their full spellings. It's pretty simple and painless, as long as you don't misspell any. So we don't have to deal with silly names like Ram or Bella.

I tested it before and it doesn't seem to have any negative side effects...
