- lurker's comment: -

Are those Numid Mercs defense 4 or defense 5 ??

I think they are 5, but I guess it depends on how the mods add up:

3*(10% + 25% + 50%) = 75% bonus defense = 2 extra defense
3*10% + 3*25% + 3*50% = 0 + 0 + 1 = 1 extra defense

I think walls add about 1 hp, approximately, so yeah, it seems like fighting a Musket with a sword. I guess we can figure 3 Legions per NM. Hopefully we get some more armies to break the walls down, so to speak. The catapults may need sent against the Iroquois, where they may actually be useful. I didn't realize that walls affect catapult utility so adversely.

The save is now available. Only 2 days late, jeez I think I'm getting CRS. Forgive me...

The save again, just in case the old link won't work. Damn hackers!

First thing I notice is Overseer’s Saves. The last save I took was 350 B.C., this save is 350 A.D. …. Hey, simple minds, what can I say.

Preturn
Nothing Major, I move a couple worked tiles around.
Things look good on the warfront. I’d feel better with more troops guarding the home front, especially that East Coast. I’ll work that on my turnset.
Thanks for leaving me in position to take a couple towns out right off the bat J.
Disband Number One and Number Two; their deaths go to build Catapults

430 A.D.
Our Great Leader is ready to build the FP but I think we should discuss where to build it.
So I’ll stop right here, only 2 turns early. Next can just play 12 turns.

NOTES:
Caughnawga is ready to be taken; there is only an Archer there.
There is a Barbarian Camp in the darkness to the NW of Lutetia
The Leader is the only thing that hasn’t been moved. He’s ready to move and build the FP where we choose.
We have a good force ready to go at the Carthaginians and a Settler about to move to the old destryed cities square to build a ew one.
I MAY have something automoving... I think I got em all but I may have missed one.

Civassist II points to Nicodemia as the best FP spot. It’s hard to tell with so little infrastructure built anywhere though. I’d go with Brundism, it seems more central and would help more with our FP cities.

The Save is in the attatchment, uploads are down right now.

Viroconium seems most central, would actually make a good capital. I've seen many on here say that the FP location hardly matters, but I'd want it somewhere useful.

I thought about rushing a new palace myself. Something more central for sure since Rome is out in crapland. I definately think the FP matters though, never read that it doens't have a big impact.

Just to let you guys know, I will be away this week until Sunday, so skip me if I am up.

I played some more turns last night, and will finish tonight or tomorrow morning. Overseer will be up.

Rome and its immediate surroundings may not be ideal, but they're not disastrous either. A palace build will take forever, and all leaders should be turned into armies because speed is the only thing that matters now. Rome has been on 2 turn legionaries since my third turn or so. I think we'll be fine in terms of production capacity.

0) 430AD
Go for FP in Caesaraugusta like I suggested earlier. Corruption is pretty low anyway, this will give us a decent foothold across the channel. Rush a harbor in Dye Town. Switch some towns to settlers in 1, rush some more, and MM quite a few towns for faster growth and/or more shields. Hire some taxmen (e.g. 2 in Lugdunum, it still grows in 2). Switch Pisae to galley.

IT
1-1 against Carthaginian MDIs.

Veii: Settler > Worker
Antium: Settler > Heroic Epic
Viroconium: Settler > Settler
Neapolis: Catapult > Catapult
Dye Town: Harbor > Galley

1) 440AD
Raze Caughnawaga. Kill another Iro archer. Switch from wealth to FP in Caesaraugusta and rush it with the leader.

Go 1-1 again against the same Carth MDI that killed a unit before. Move on to Rusicade.

IT
Caesaraugusta: FP > Harbor
Cumae: Catapult > Legionary
Ravenna: Settler > Catapult
Lutetia: Catapult > Harbor

2) 450AD
Cats go 4/13 at Rusicade, army razes it. Found Hippo Regius, start walls. Kill 4 units without loss and capture a settler.

IT
Carthage lands 2 units near Antium. Ouch! One of our cat stacks is taken by Iro ACavs coming out of the fog. Kill an ACav and retreat one.

Brundisium: Barracks > Spearman
Rome: Marketplace > Legionary
Nicomedia: Catapult > Catapult

3) 460AD
Kill 2 ACavs and a Carth MDI. Take back our cats. Found Nicopolis, start Harbor (later on I realized I misplaced this town by one tile). Kill an archer near Arta. All combat is with elites, but no leaders.

IT
Kill 2 MDIs and retreat an ACav.

Veii: Worker > Worker
Pisae: Galley > Catapult

4) 470AD
Kill 2 archers in or near our lands. Army kills a Merc in Utica (GW town).

Found Londinium, start worker. Found Eburacum, start catapult.

IT
Kill an ACav.

Rome: Legionary > Legionary
Cumae: Legionary > Spearman (for MP)
Pompeii: Settler > Legionary
Byzantium: Settler > Barracks
Syracuse: Settler > Catapult

5) 480AD
Found Arretium (we have ivory now), rush barracks immediately (via worker) for faster healing. Found Gordion, start harbor.

Kill ACav, 2 MDIs, and a Merc, all with elites, no leaders.

IT
Go 2-2 against MDIs, which is fine, because I would have had to sacrifice too much speed to save them.

Veii: Worker > Marketplace
Neapolis: Catapult > Catapult
Arretium: Barracks > Walls

6) 490AD
Disperse a barb camp up north. Kill an MDI and an archer. Bomb out a road to protect a settler moving into Carthaginian territory. Army takes out another Merc at Utica.

Rush a galley to start ferrying troops.

IT
Defeat an MDI outside Theveste.

Rome: Legionary > Legionary
Cumae: Spearman > Spearman
Dye Town: Galley > Galley

7) 500AD
Found Agrippina, start worker. Found Cyrene, start harbor.

Kill an Iro sword.

IT
No combat.

Pisae: Catapult > Settler
Ravenna: Catapult > Catapult
Seleucia: Catapult > catapult

8) 510AD
Land 4 legionaries on the mountain near Hippo, and capture 2 workers in the process.

Found Tyrus, start barracks.

IT
Go 2-1 against MDIs.

Rome: Legionary > Legionary
Cumae: Spearman > Settler
Dye Town: Galley > Galley
Lutetia: Harbor > Galley
Arta: Settler > Settler

9) 520AD
While killing stray units, finally get this:
ku1breakthroughal7.jpg

Kill another Merc in Utica.

IT
Defeat MDI and ACav.

Pompeii: Legionary > Settler

We get a palace extension :)

10) 530AD
Redline and sink a Carthaginian galley, promoting ours to elite.

Found Verona, start harbor.

Bombing Utica destroys its cathedral and then ... the Great Wall :D

The defenders at Theveste are dead meat now. Kill 2 Mercs and a healing MDI. One other healing MDI remains.

IT
No combat.

Brundisium: Spearman > Spearman
Rome: Legionary > Legionary
Caesaraugustu: Harbor > Galley
Neapolis: Catapult > Catapult
Dye Town: Galley > Galley
Ravenna: Catapult > Catapult
Tarentum: Catapult > Catapult

11) 540AD
Found Corfinium, start harbor.

Kill 3 units and raze Theveste. Kill 2 units and raze Utica. Kill 2 units and raze Nora.

IT
Loose 2 exposed legionaries to MDIs.

Lugdunum: Settler > Settler
Cumae: Settler > Legionary
Hippo Regius: Worker > Worker
Aurel: Galley > Galley

Hattusas finishes Sun Tzu.

12) 550AD
Found Mediolanum, start worker. Army goes red killing a Merc in Leptis Magna.

Hand-off notes:
- Veii will pick up extra shields on growth to make up for the 2 missing shields towards its marketplace.
- Lugdunum can use mined deserts and still grow fast; should save us a lot of rushing money
- Cumae can take stronger tiles and grow again after Pisae finishes its settler.
- Hispalis could also benefit from some mined deserts.
- Gordion and Nicopolis need a road connection. I'd put Veii back on workers after the market; we can use lots more.
- Galley 4 is meeting up with the settler near Brundisium and the settler that will be produced in Pisae. They can go to Tyrus from there.
- Keep building galleys, and send some out to explore for the other continent. Our "fleet" is in Dye Town, with 1mp left.
- We're a little thin on troops in the east, but the Nora troops can move there as soon as they're healed.
- I didn't build many settlers; our build ratio should be increased now that we're starting to cut through the enemy.
- The Carthaginian settler pair is heading for the Utica spot.

Hand-off notes: Troops are in position for taking Leptis Minor next turn, and within 3-4 turns Carthage will be gone. We can begin the assault on the Iroquois after that. I sent one galley on a suicide run to the west, and there is one that could go east in several turns. I have a sinking feeling that the minimum gap between continents is at least 3 sea tiles, and possibly even more. If that is the case, we may be in trouble. A picture:
