ku1 - Ancient Romans

3 days later and I've only looked at the save... Sorry, life gets busy and these SGs take more time than I anticipated. Going to play my turns today but the turnlog won't be as through as I'd like. It just taks too long to post each city I rush something in and whatnot. We have lots of cash atm to rush galleys and legos. We can use our workers to help rush things also (they do take gold to support right? I think so) That will give us ore gpt. Also, we can bring another country into war against Mongolia can't we? No rule agaist that. What if we use one nation on the other continent against all of the others, one by one. The goal is conquest, not domination. We can still do this.

I won't bring another nation into the war unless I see some support for the idea here while I play the turnset. I have things to do so i'll be on and off it until later tonight.

Great idea to use the power of alliances to get things stirred up. I'd like to see everyone allied against the Mongols. Take this as vote for alliances.

The Hittites have 15 cities, Otto and Byzantine have about that between them both. I would use the Hittites only, to keep the other two (who we'll be going after next) from building more military units. I'm only 3 turns. I built an Embassy with Hittites, they have Sun Tzu and will join the war for 170g. Going to draw them in now.

good idea to bring in someone else to fight alongside...good turns anyway :goodjob:
what we need is an army hat could take out some stronger enemy units as well

I saw that one civ was terribly backwards, we might want to lave them last to not let the others get to rifles or cavs.

Quick update: I played 2.5 turns this morning, tried my luck on turn 3 and got 2 leaders. Karakorum is gone.

This game is probably in the bag now. We'll just have to play well to maximize our speed to get through our enemies before they get to rifles. That's why these turns are taking a lot of time, with continuing MM and all that. I'll try to finish by tomorrow night.

We start with 70 cats, 34 galleys, and 96 legionaries.

0) 1100AD
Rush a temple in new shores. Theo doesn't have currency, but doesn't have anything to give for it. Land units. Return 4 galleys to center. Rush harbor in Lugdunum. Switch temple in Atraxa to settler. Sell barracks in Tyrus. Switch to high food in corrupt towns. We are building temples in towns that have plenty of tiles to work, while the temples I started in the desert fishing villages near our core have been canceled? MM gains us 26gpt.

Veii switched to Pentagon in 1. Army and eLegionary kill 2 more muskets. The next eLegionary gives us another army. eLegionary kills another musket, showing an MDI now. vLegionary kills MDI, vLegionary dies on 1hp musket and promotes it. Hold off for now.

Galley sinkage was about 60% over my 10 ITs.
I tried to remove rally points, but there may still be left. Not sure how to throw them all away.

The front:

Roster:
- Kurtson - MIA
- Sasquatch
- Mumpulus - Just played
- TheRat - Up
- Overseer - On deck

I'd declare on the Byzantines and Hittites next, pulling in Otto against the Hittites. Play defense with the Hittites while quickly going at the few Byzantine towns we can reach. The northern army can go straight for the Hittite core though. We should also remember the Byzantine island in the southern ocean. Not sure how we'll manage against their dromons...

nice progress.agree with the future moves.

I can't seem to find a save though

Preturn
things look good

IT we lose 3/7 galleys

1.1210AD
bombard Hovd, attack and almost lose our healthy legion army, defeat a total of 4 units there and the city is gone

as we still have an alliance with Hittites, it is not nice to break that. Byz will be our next victim then

IT lose 4/6 galleys

2.1220AD
Mongols have only 1 city left, time to attack Byz, declare war
rope in Ottomans, I find out that they have only horses and iron
move towards Byz land, found a city, defeat a settler pair

IT lose a legion flat against a horse, lose 4/6 galleys
worst of all, Ottoman finish KT

3. 1230AD
lose a legion, defeat 3 units and raze Varna, found a replacement city
defeat another settler pair

IT this game will be remembered for the frustrating ship chains, 4/5 galleys sink

4. 1240AD
raze Caesarea and found the same city (???)
with ship chaining as catastrophic as this, decide to cash rush only stuff on the second continent

IT Hittites destroy the Mongols, now we can attack them as well
only 1/5 galleys sink

5. 1250AD
declare war on Hittites and pull Ottoman in
found a city and defeat Hittite settler pair
star to attack Byz capital with army

IT Hittites lose a knight against a legion
4/6 galleys sink

6. 1255AD
found a city, take out Constantinople and another settler pair
take out Hittite knight

IT the Hittite counters are luckily pretty lame, we go 2:1 taking ou a knight and sword losing a legion
the usual 3/6 galleys sink

7.1260AD
found a new city, take out Darhan and gain a MGL

IT a few knights show up on the horizon
3/5 galleys sink

8. 1265AD
found a city on Hittite horses, bu hat is not their only source
march towards Tarsus, new army raze Karhuyuk

IT Hittites lose a knight, 3/6 galleys sink

9. 1270AD
bombard Tarsus, 4 muskets inside
lose 1 legion, but take out the city including Leo's, found Winipolis on top of the ruins

IT the new city seems to be a magnet for the Hittites, good
2/6 galleys sink

10. 1275AD
march on, 2 stacks next to 2 Hittite cities
play aggressive, take out 2 knights at Winipolis

I think we should make a few decisions now.

1. We could stop production in the far away corrupt cities on our initial continent and set them on wealth. Use all th money we gain o cash rush units on the second continent. I have been doing that, you can rush a few legions and the occasional settler there.

2. Do we go for domination or conquest? If we go for domination, we have 47% of the land and could rush quite a few temples to gain tiles, found more cities and we should have no issue to get to 66%.
Conquest, no doubt, will take longer but provide more fun

Sorry bout the Rally Point. Even I was wondering why my Cats and Setters were going the long way around...

Yes on Question "1" and by the time we get 66% area and pop we're gonna have so many military units we may as well just wipe em all out. Heck, we're only an Ancient Era Civ, we're too dumb to know when to stop.

Since we raze everything anyway, let's aim for Conquest, but if we hit a "natural" Domination, we'll take it. By natural, I mean not through culture, but by settling the land we capture. If we build that many towns, we deserve to win. Changing the corrupt areas to wealth makes sense, as rushing on the other continent is more cost-effective than the ship chaining. We will continue ship-chaining too, but it will be less important than it has been. Downloaded the save, will play tomorrow.

Finished my turn set last night, finally. I didn't have time to post the save and turn-log then, so I will now. All went pretty well, my sinking rate wasn't bad early, but got worse later. Did well with attacks on Hittite cities, they are nearly finished. The next player gets to start on the Ottomans, as it is about time to crash their party. Here is the turn-log:

I sent some troops toward the Byzantine capital, and have started massing to go after the Ottomans, as the groups in Hittite territory will be adequate to finish them off. We have some islands that will need taken, but I'll leave that to the next players.
