ku1 - Ancient Romans

I'm 7 turns in, will finish this afternoon for sure. We met the other continent, Mongols, Ottomans, and Hitites so far. 9 squares to cross at that point I think.

btw as I checked the rules of the variant to see what I can do with our oversees people this rule was in there

"once on the other continent(s) we build can only build our own cities, aka raze everything!"

So we could have been keeping cities with Wonders all this time? Including GLighthouse in Lisbon Portugal...

Now that everything has been razed up to this point I guess we'll stick with it in Iroquois land.

With what we know, the long crossing and all, we may need to get radical to win this. We may need to build a new empire there from scratch, Palace Jump included. With galleys, no GLight(doubt it would have helped much), and no astronomy/navigation, we will see horrendous losses of troops trying to get across the gap. Even with creative ship-chaining, this will be an uphill battle.

I have 2 turns to play, gonna finish in an hour or so. We still have the whole East coast of the other continent to search for a closer spot. there is already what looks like a 2 turn crossing. Creating a new empire sounds long, tiresome and definately radical. Should have a interesting finish :yup:

Preturn:
I started with “The Bede Exercise” and increased gpt from 116 to 133
Set some Settler builds to equal growth as well as changed some of the outer towns from or to catapults so they coincide with growth.

it will be interesting how we can manage a massive invasion with inferior units. Once the AI gets gunpowder, we will be in trouble. We must also get a settler across eventually to be able to form a city and armies, that we might get.

If we find a 2 turn crossing, losses should be manageable. Just add enough empty galleys and the full galleys won't sink.

0) 750AD
Switch Lutetia, Syracuse and Byzantium to aqueduct. Dye Town to rushed Courthouse. Verona and Corfinium switched to harbor. Rush the galley in Aureli to put together a fleet for the Iroquois island faster. Switch Lugdunum to granary. Switch Cumae to Legionary.

Kill an MDI north of Salamanca.

got it...see what i can do with an invasion

Preturn
load 5/10 galleys with units, we will have to declare war as there is no space to drop units with out a ROP rape, which I won't do
rush a few things as we have the cash
send 5 empty galleys out

IT 3 galleys survive

1.860AD
ship chain 3 loads and declare war on Mongols

IT Hittites start KT

2. 870AD
land a total of 7 legions + settler next to a Mongol city

IT we are lucky as the Mongols don't even attack

3.880AD
defeat 3 pikes and lose 4 legions, but the city still stands
get additional 4 units over

IT flawlessly defeat 2 LB's that attack out stack

4. 890AD
there are too many units inside and we go too few, so I fortify and hope we can defend well

IT we lose 2 legions to maces

5. 900AD
defeat 1 mace, however we got too few healthy legions to attack the city, this is highly annoying
drop 6 more units

IT suddenly 3 settler pairs leave the city we have been sieging...really weird, only one mace attacks and wins

6.910AD
this is very bizarre, as we defeat 1 yellow pike (after bombarding) and 1 red mace and Almarikh is gone
now, we can found a new city and slowly build up our forces
rush walls in the new city

IT no attacks at all

7.920AD
ship over 4 more units, galley sinking rate is close to 50%, we need to replace those constantly

IT still no attacks

8. 930AD
move a stack with legions and cats towards the next city

IT no attacks and no galley sank :)

9. 940AD
lose 3 legions, but raze next city with 3 pikes and 1 LB inside

IT our exposed red elite legion survives a mace attack :)

10. 950AD
found another city overseas, ship chaining brings us 4 more cats over

I have attacked an image with the proper ship chain procedure and our new holdings

For chaining: we need to put units into our galleys next to the shore. next turn, they move to the galleys in the ocean, reload and then move those galleys to the other continent and drop them right away into the city

Downloaded the save, will play tonight. Great job getting a foothold on the other continent.:goodjob: We may be able to win this without a palace jump after all, just keep pumping galleys, legions, and catapults.

Had a delay, will finish this tomorrow.

Sorry about this, but I'm turning my save in after only 5 turns. I sense defeat here, and my 1000 AD turn illustrates why. I had 5 empty galleys waiting on the IBT, and 4 of them sank. I then proceed to bombard Karakorum with catapults, discovering at least 6 musketmen. I just cannot continue this turnset, my heart just isn't in it. I am stubborn, but not stubborn enough to lose time and again. If there is hope for victory, it's in the hands of a far better player than I. I am totally discouraged right now, and I can't play my best. Again, I am sorry. Here is my abbreviated turn-log:

The save:

After being less frustrated, I think we should go after the Mongol Iron to make it ours. Then we can start building/rushing Legionaries over there. Sorry I got so glum, I think I had some negative experiences there that put me in a sour mood. Things are not totally impossible yet.
