Leaderhead creation

I'll probably end up using the frankenstein technique to start with, cutting parts of the Civ6 leaderscreens off and modifying them. Then improve it over time.

I've crossed over to using Daz Studio (I was using Poser previously). Here are my practice pieces, but I may need to amend the style when Civ 6 comes out.

The first and third one have good lighting, they could just use starker contrast on the characters and they'd look good for Civ 6. The new leaderheads are very "baroque" in the sense that they utilise tenebrism very strongly: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenebrism

I think the second leaderhead could use a few more highlights that would bring up her facial features better in that context. With backgrounds so dark as in Civ 6, characters with deep black skin will need those little specks of light to bring out their form properly.

Thanks for the comments, Jan! Is this what you're talking about with respect to image 2?

He looks better with textures and non-statue like eyes :P

His face looks kinda flat - that background looks beautiful, though!

He reminds me of Lord Farquaad :P

I would suggest shortening the face a bit and giving him some stuble and a more stern expression to make him look a bit more like this. The eyes could also use a bit of downsizing.

It's looking good, sukritact!

So after you posted your original iteration, I decided I needed to practice a lot of 3D modelling.

Here's a down and dirty model I did of Frederick the Great with no accessories, textures, or rigging:

I'm trying to figure out what exactly is the right style for Civ VI. I built the hands/head off of an older model of mine, adjusting some proportions and rebuilding the cheeks, chin, and nose. I am having the hardest time with the eyes, though. In the official art Teddy's eyes are so small and Victoria's are much bigger. I'm not sure how realistically sized they should be.
