Let's Discuss Poland

I still think Dutch only got in because of Amsterdam ;)

And I'll state who I agree with now, you may be surprised.

perhaps Americans aren't a bunch of idiots. maybe they are.

what made me lose respect for American culture a long long time ago (though i still respect it as a nation, not the culture anymore), was things like this from my friends, things i see all over the place: just simply taking so many things for granted. i mean, in America, seriously, even the homeless are pretty well off, because at least they can get food from trash cans. its better than nothing.

and i see entire meals uneaten thrown into the trash. how kids laugh at some starving kid on a TV ad, just because he looks funny. how they buy piles of toys without even touching them. sure, all powerful people indulge, but i don't think they are to the level of Americans.

no other culture has its newspapers waste time on people like Paris Hilton or Britney Spears instead of more important stuff, good or bad, like developments in science or in the Iraq War.

that, i think, is the problem with America. it just takes things for granted sometimes.

perhaps this is just because it is a power. perhaps this is what the world is supposed to turn into.

well, in the end, America is THE power, and i feel that it is... understandable for them to feel proud of it. they deserve to. at least the people on these forums don't compare to people i've met, so that's fine.

EDIT: I don't hate Americans. I just don't agree with their values at times, thats all.

<---- This American agrees 100%.

Sickcycle arrogantly annouced America ruled the world. It made me sick

Sickcycle is indeed very arrogant, I'm an American, I can be we run the world

You know America has all the symptons of a dying empire? Think about

Slighty Paranoid Citizens
Fighting a war it cannot support
Declining Economy
Failing Infrastucture
Lack of Funding of several sectors
Recent devastating Diasater
Disapproval of the Goverment

All it needs is either Caniflonia seceding or a Mexico-Canada allied attack then boom. Self-destruction

Totally agree, but I don't agree that it's set in stone. If anything I believe that if the EU ever put there differences aside they would rise to the top, except we'd still do all there fighting. however, Canada is like the Rebel state lol there is no way in hell that Canada and the United States would ever fight, period. That is just silly to even fantasize, they also have a very small outdated military and they wouldn't do much, same with Mexico lol that would be a joke, except I could see them taking part in an Attack on America.

It wasn't a personal attack, I'm talking in general. I want the "America is the best" to stop. We're not that influencial, and it's not the holy land. Get it?

This however is total rubbish! Of course America rules the world, any country that backs us is more of a dog that follows commands and the ones that don't are evil :p and are fairly behind the United States in most respect.

Britain going to Iraq is a prime example lol

Also, China is not a threat to the United States it could never take us on and it's comical to even think that, they don't even have an aircraft carrier built yet lolol.. all they have is a billion citizens they can throw at us and in modern warfare that doesn't mean jack, I mean air superiority is all that really matters anymore, what good is 800 million troops if the second you mobilize them an air strike or cruiser missile slams right into them every step they take lol

The only country that could even put up a fight is a Russian/Chinese alliance and that is because china has the industrial capacity as well as the boots and Russia has the technology, Russia's new Sizzler missile is a prime example, it basically obsoletes our carriers completely, it flies to fast and to low to the ground for our ships to detect and by the time they see it it's already to late.

The United States admittedly has no defense against it.

Americas new F-22 Raptor even tho it could take the new Soviet fighter in the sky is actually not as good performance wise, if the Russians find a way around the stealth capability were screwed, but they haven''t really told us much about the electronic warfare capabilities of it and it's suppose to have a superior radar/missile ability, russia has always had better rocket technology.

Also if you don't think the United States runs the world lol how do you explain all the dictators and regimes that are actually put in power by the CIA and run by the United States ;)

I mean we keep the Saudis in power, Saddam had ties to the CIA, the Shah of Iran is a good one lol there are dozens of South American countries, I however consider Japan and the Aussies trusted allies not dogs :p

I mean most of Europe aside from Germany/France do what there told heh

cooooome on guys :D

EDIT: News flash.. The United States of America spends as much on "Defense" as the next ten nations COMBINED.

Rofl..

waaaait, I double posted. oops

EDIT: I don't hate Americans. I just don't agree with their values at times, thats all.

i agree that some Americans can be inconsiderate, conceited jerks, i know a bunch of them. I just don't like it when the nice caring Americans get overlooked because the only kind of people that the rest of the world sees are mean and stupid and stuff like that. When i have traveled, i sometimes denied being American because i know what the rest of the world thinks about us.

What about that question that miss south carolina was asked? Why can't 20% of americans find their country on a map? Is it because of cultural influence also?

I think that there are such a people just in any country in the World. It's sad, but you can't even say that it's a mark of our times, because not so long time ago literacy rate in the World was much lower.

It's just a problem of the scale - with large democratic countries it's more visible. But they do have also a lot of hiper-intelligent people in almost any area of interest.

It might also be the thing which cybrxkhan mentioned - taking things for granted. But I'd say it's in two ways: material one and knowledge one. Material is what have already been said here - lack of contact with poverty-stricken part of the reality and lack of appreciation for what they have. It's not only America's problem but all of the Euro-Americans, even Poles (after all we are in top 25 richest countries of the World if it goes for pure GDP, but around 70 when it comes to per capita).
Taking things for granted as a knowledge is just cutting out "unnecessary information". And it takes relative judgment to tell that Paris Hiltons stuff is more important than anything outside "civilized World". That's actually why I appreciate Norwegians - they do actually think in broader/longer terms.

The americans living in canada are such jerks. They think there the greatest thing since sliced bread. (just throwing it out there. :mischief: )

probably true, but this thread is supposed to discuss Poland so i think if we want to continue the discussion we should move it to another thread

I find it amusing that when we finally have a 'legal' Poland thread, we discuss America. OT ftw!

yea. i mean, its stupid, ridiculous, and fanatcism to say that almost all Americans were born ready to grow fat and waste the world's resources. defeinitely some are, but only someone as stupid as them would say all are like that.

but i think some Americans don't realize they're acting stupid or spoiled or arrogant, and thats when i get annoyed. unfortunately, at times, sometimes these Americans are the only kinds we see the most.

and of course there are nice Americans. there has to be. i know a few myself.

It's not that were born that way, it's that our country conditions us to be that way :D

I'm not sure I agree that Americans in Canada are the most whatever you said, I'm an American and lived in Canada for awhile and when I got there granted I was exactly as you state but my Canadian friends quickly whipped me into shape and taught me some manners lol I actually find Canada to be a better country but I don''t find it to be a more powerful country.

I also find that French Canadians fit that bill more then Americans and that Canada has more ignorance as well as other countries about America then they realize.

They constantly criticize things they don't understand and 99% of the time they would have the facts right but they only see it on paper they don't understand how it really works or why it's that way, they only have a small piece of the puzzle and think they know what they're talking about.

For instance, one time someone went off on our legal system and our sentencing being draconian, so I had to educate them that your average prisoner only serves 60% of his sentence and is released lol It's just scare tactics to keep you in line.

They also forget not so long ago Canadians Marijuana laws were harsher then Americas, they also see that weed is demonized by the government and DEA but forget that in most states when you get arrested for having an ounce of mary J you get a ticket and a summons to court.. and when you get there it's like a 100 dollar fine lol.. I had a public.. er friskyness ticket and it was 300 bucks the dude next to me that got busted with weed had a 100 dollar fine.

I was like.. bullshiiiit, pissed me off.

They talk about our political election system and they see nothing but bashing eachother and forget that the reason that is is because politicians are freakin liars everything that comes out of there mouth is a lie so we prefer to see there character and how they hold up.

Also there is crazy corruption and someone has to expose that stuff ;) the United States prob has one of the most corrupt democracies in the world rofl

Americans may rule the World, but we rule this forum. In discrete way ofcourse, so that might discuss "proper" things in (Poland)-related places. ;)

Alright:

10 Reasons Why Poland Shouldn't Be In Civ

1. If they get put in, TheLastOne36 will gloat.
2-10. Aren't important really, 1 is bad enough.

yea.. the only difference between ignorance in other developed nations and ignorance in America is that America is loudly. and not just accidentally at times.

anyhow, back on topic...

Winged Hussars look interesting. c'mon, who else has horses with wings? the new Greek UU, Pegasusman? no way. that looks awesome!

Hahaha

Unique Building for Poland? something Medieval? Mounted Knights needed stables, stable UB? Provides culture as well as XP thanks to... Jousting? Or something inventive

conversely...

10 Reasons Why Poland *could* Be a Civ

1. ThelastOne36 will gloat.
2. Winged Hussars. Horses with wings!!! Woohoo!!!
3. Queen Jadwiga as leader. Another Boadicea or Victoria or Catherine or Isabella or whatever.
4. If HRE can be in, so can Poland.
5. A Eastern European alternative to Russia.
6. Its better than the Weimar Republic.
7. Kielbasa tastes great, or at least ThelastOne36 says so.
8. Poland was at a time more influential and powerful than Zululand, and has its own military merits too.
9. To let all those Poland-complainers stop complaining on the forums.
10. Does it really matter to you?

haha 10th reason is the best. There's some Civs in the game I will probably never play, so it doesnt matter to me about them being in. Yet it does to some?

But some people are just too picky.
