Okay it seems to be a bit much to ask for so i'm gonna put a few rules in the topic so it stays more neutral.

1) Don't give us all a history lesson, the point is what is happening NOW. It is too late to turn the clock back 50 years, what is the best solution to the problem in this current situation? Cite history only when it has a strong relavance on solving a problem realisticly and right now.

2) No genocide talk. Genocide or total destruction of the other side will never happen and shouldn't happen

3) No flaming, calling people names, or personal attacks. Remember we all assume that each person in the discussion is intelligent and rational

4) No generalising or stereotypes of either side

5) Don't discuss media bias or other crap, just focus on the issue at hand

6) The solution has to be reasonably beneficial to both sides

7) You must have reasonable expectations. Remember that fanatical hatred for the enemy doesn't disappear overnight

That'll be it for now. Please enlighten me a bit more on the issue, i beleive my judgement may be biased from propaganda slung from both sides

Hey!!!! How can one discuss anything under those 7 conditions?

j/k....

I like this one, people should follow it in other threads too.

The key is to read propaganda from both sides and then try to work out where the truth lies. There are few unbiased views I can find on what is happening now but would apreciate it if anyone can find them, so I'm afraid you'll just have to do what is wise, keep an open mind and try to seperate the wheat from the chaff.

If anyone needs a history lesson winner it's you :D The fact is though most of it has been said, and discussed and refuted etc so, I'm glad we can move on even if some people coudln't be bothered to look into it, it's all there if they want to.

throw everything out, history, who did what to whom, etc. so that you can get rid of the biased decisions. but then again its easier said than done.:(

Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.... and it does work sadly

U.S.A should occupy Israel and Palestine under the auspice of their new Religious leader George Bush II and force them to eat pork. The Muslims and the Jew realising that they have more in common than the rest of the world fights back the invaders, falls in love and have babies.

Pork is haram or non-kosher my friend, i always think that the Jews and the Muslims are more alike than not, both with the similar kind of unyielding fanaticism, one in regards to their property another in regards to their religious custom.

I have a feeling that a lock is coming if i don't do something

STOP THE SPAM FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! Jesus Christ people talk about the issue. And what did i say about personal attacks? Ah thats right: Don't do it!

So whats the "discussion" about? A reasonable solution like you outline in point 6 or something else?

Israel should cease bombing of Lebanon and open diplomatic channels with the Lebanese government. They should work together to forcibly disarm the autonomous Hezbollah organazation with help from the Lebanese army and the IDF, and the UN should send peacekeeping troops into southern Lebanon to make the area a demilitalized zone and prevent future attacks. So simple.... if anything the situation called for a special forces operation and a few surgical strikes with cooperation of both governments.

A reasonable solution to stop the violence with the Israeli-Arab/Palestianian Conflict

Silver2039: Finally somebody begins a reasonable post

A UN peacekeeping force could actually be a good thing, it stopped Israel and Egypt from duking it out, but when that force was taken away the problem simply started up again. Maybe if it was stationed in Southern Lebananon in the long term while a proper peace process could be worked out the UN peacekeeping force could work

OK I would like to see the UN being allowed into both Israel and Palestine with the authority to use force against either side that it sees is going to attack the other. After this current mess has calmed down and we are back to the "Palestine fireing rockets and Israel carrying out assasinations and strikes".
So like the UN has thousands of soldiers patrolling the west bank and gets immediate positioning of if a rocket has been launched then they can straight away be there and arrest them. For example.

The only solution that can work in the really really long term is economic interdependence like Europe , the difference being that there may be a restriction on the movement of people . How that is to be achieved , however , is beyond me .

Unfortunately that is repeatin history. :D This has been tried before and failed.

While a UN peacekeeping force is an intriguing proposal, there's a problem that the Israelis are even more distrustful of the UN than the US is, given that they have no real allies in the UN and the will of the majority countries (pretty much every Muslim country automatically votes against them, and Europe hasn't been in their corner much lately) is to repeatedly throw anti-Israeli resolutions at them.

Or that's the impression, anyway - anyone have any comparison of anti-Israel and anti-PLO/Muslim neighbor resolutions (setting the anti-Saddam ones aside) over the last decade or three in the UN?
