LINESII- Into the Darkness- Part II

I pretty much agree with both Terrania and Azulia, just not "Cultesia."

I think the blade range and below should have a different name "Arianea" :p Just anything but Cultesia (or anything else involving Bladeism), Trinlin, or some Veritasian name ;)

i am guessing alex you'd prefer something more asian, lets try Gungfu;)

Sparcked by Intrest concernign the recent Discusion of Continintal names, I coppied the map to file, then doodled on it a bit, trying to detremin there various faultlines, subduction zones, and where new contintal plates are emrging..

and dang, I'm seeing at least three major plates int eh area revield right now, possibly antother, and one minor plate and/or super volcano. Lord Iggy, how recent was your planets supercontinet phase?

Iggy, I REALLY want a look at the full map. It's got to be awsome looking..

Interestingly enough, I did make a continental boundaries map. But it is still a secret.

Although you are correct in your assertion that multiple plates exist in Terrania. But you'll have to guess where the borders are.

I so want to steal that.. Be sure to post it when we get to the point where you can post it. Or the NES dies.

Quick Question. am I right that the contintial Plate Splits Due north Along the mountaian range north of Verta, then curves south to run under Exillium, right?

Mountainous islands, earthquakes, a massive young mountain range, volcanoes... what ever gave you that idea? ;)

Is that a rub against Chinese martial arts or Kung Fu? :p

Thlayli, try at least to appear to well... care what the other inhabitants think about the name ;) I mean, I can't even pronounce that

You stole the title, 'Into the Darkness', from a book by Harry Turtledove. Or it's a complete coincidence and I'll feel like an idiot.

Eh. I couldn't care less about the names (no offense) as long as they're standarized. I'm still clueless about what Tellus is: is it the entire world or the cradle?

Well, so far it seems that the general consensus is that Tellus is the "Whole World" :) Though many would no doubt disagree. Of course, that definition has theological problems as the Veritasians were banished from Tellus in the beginning of time.

Thus, if the world was Tellus, the Veritasians should no longer exist on well, the planet.

Thats indeed whats been confusing me for so long.

Tellus has seemed to change its meaning a lot. At first, Thlalyi said that Tellus refered to a distant, new worldish continent that the Veritasians of old were banished from. Then, it seemed Iggy mistook Tellus to mean the much closer mainland. After that, Tellus seemed to take on the meaning of the world, as well.

Personally, I like the first interpertation, because it has the best implications for Norvalin. If Divoium (or Azulia) is really Tellus, and the Norvalins, instead of being exiles, are really a people come home again.

Yes, but by all accords Tellus is paradise. The New World, or Azulia, is hardly paradise. Thus Tellus, a paradise, cannot be well, a New World as paradise well, isn't there.

here is my explanation:

In old times, people thought the world as a flat surface. Much was not known of the beyond lands. Many believed this small center of the world as the entire world to them. Only seeing darkness before them, they feared to journey much farther, for not much had ever come from there and no human who had ventured thus far had ever returned. So, when Veritas was banished to the island, the people knew little of ever their being an island. They believed they had chased Veritas from what they knew as the world, Tellus. They thought they had been driven off the edge into the abyss. However, as civilization began to develope many found their former beliefs wrong. They knew Tellus as suddenly a far greater land that ranged far longer than they could ever have dreamed. Thinking of this they neglected changing the past texts, as they, at the time, truly believed that Veritas had been driven off the face of Tellus.

@alex994-Paridise is in the eye of the beholder. Norvalins belive that Divoium/Azulia/Tellus/The New World is the perfect place to grow and repent sins, and so, to them, it is a paridise... Sort of. ;)

Anyway, now I have an idea for another story cycle!

But I believe there is a specific reference to Tellus, Paradise in one of the Oneists Sciptures. Not Panteras or Straitkrator, one of the early ones, don't really remember... :(

If you think it's weird I know about the Church of the One, it's because of this. Know thy enemy ;)

Well, I admit that it's been rather interchangable. In the original Oneist scripture that I wrote the name "Tellus" was designed to be rather ambiguous.

Originally, it applied to the Cradle, being the known civilized world at the time, given to the people of Veritas by the One to settle, etc, in order to achieve salvation.

In the Second Exodus, the Veritasans were instructed by the One Incarnate in Brother Pacian to "leave Tellus," this sticking with Tellus as the description of the cradle. But the interpretation taken by the leaders of the Exodus, including Pacian himself, was that they were leaving the known world.

So drawing off this, as the "known world" expands, the definition of Tellus broadens.

OOC: Just curious Iggy, is this current map the exact same one that we started with, or have minor/major changes been made during the NES?

I started off only drawing the cradle, then around update 6 I drew in the rest of the map and darkened out all of the unknown bits.

Never heard of it. The reason for the name is a reference for the advancement of civilization into the unkown, hence 'Into the Darkness'. No reason for you to feel like an idiot, but I think that 'stole' is a bit strong of a word to use.
