LINESII- Into the Darkness- Part III

Ah yes, plenty of allies. Khemri's treated her most loyal allies SO well, haven't they? Like the Swade, who were backstabbed by a Khemran army at the last second, which greedily joined in the sacking of their capital?

Well now, I know you're not attempting to use this logic, are you? I believe we're all out of pots for the time being...

My Miltia point was more that 10k Miltiia will beat 1000 soldiers as they are recruited at the moment, a small core of professional troops backed up my Miltias will beat a dedicated army of Professionals thats at best slightly larger than the Professional contingent.

And I can't beleive you'd actually want me to support the swade, after what they did, or indeed the Gorin (who were say Swade crazy lite for a while), but my orders with regards to the Gorin did have quite a few clauses, but I hadn't imagined playing such an integral role in their downfall but life goes on.

First off, he's exiled, with no other options. Second, he's ruling a population of Khemrans AND Valins, so it isn't really MY nation. It's a multiethnic nation, comprised of Valins, who hate you, and Loyalists, who hate you. They don't really like each other, but their boiling hatred for Anabet is a bigger unifying force than anything else I could come up with.

This is a stretch, national loyalty doesn't exist in this era, nor should it. Personal loyalty to a strong ruler or leader is what wins people over in this era

OOC: I denounce this statement. There are tons of people in OTL Imperial China who gave their lives for their Dynasty even though they all knew it was terrible, evil and corrupt :p

THERE IS LOYALTY TO THE DRAGON THRONE OF GUANGFEI!

Intrude: Quite. Conscript armies (which basically are Militias, just around a core of Professional officers) rose for a reason. That had a lot to do with the gun, but any fairly simple weapon like a pike or a crossbow will suffice as well (as evidenced by say, China).

So, ignoring the 5 to 1 advantage in professional soldiers, or the fact that the allied forces already have a sizable militia force as well...ignoring ALL that, Khemri's pursuing a conscription strategy suspiciously similar to Gorin's, and that didn't exactly turn out well for them.

Then again, as long as you don't have any allies to stab you in the back at the last minute, you should be fine. :p

1:5 in quality in a 10:1 quantity match means you still end up losing 2:1. :p I'd admit to an incomplete understanding of the situation as a casual observer, but assuming the following lineup is anything like correct:

Spoiler :
Anabetan Kingdom of Khemri
Army: 1000 Pikemen, 500 Archers, 1000 Royal Guards, 1000 Crystal Knights, 10 Armoured Ramids, 70 000 Militia

Cultesian Bladeist Empire of Greater Myocaca
Army: 5000 Swordsmen, 3000 Bigjaur Riders (4), 1000 Cavalry, 2000 Yu-Yan Archers (5), 4000 Longbowmen, 3500 Knights of Divine Enlightenment (6), 10 Ramids, 5 Ballistae, 30 000 Militia

--- vs. ---

Valin Republics of Veritas
Army: 2000 Autorian Knights, 2000 Regian Guards (7), 1500 Phoenix Archers (4.5), 2500 Scimitari, 4000 Urban Militia, 1000 Cavalry Militia, 10 Tormentae

Norvalin Republic of Veritas
Army: 1000 Autorian Knights, 500 Regian Guards (7), 1000 Phoenix Archers (4.5), 500 Scimitari

Ptolemaic Kingdom of Khemri
Army: 500 Pikemen, 500 Archers, 2500 Royal Guards (6), 1000 Crystal Knights (6), 5 Armoured Ramids, 20 000 Militia

Kehexou
Army: 2000 Archers, 1000 Pikemen, 10 000 Militia

The tally's 122,000 to 53,500, of which 22,000 and 18,500 are Professional. So, argued either way, with existing forces on paper, you are outnumbered and outgunned. If there are additional allies, you might have an edge in Professionals, but it is as Kal'thzar suggests, relatively slight compared to the overwhelming numerical superiority in Militia. This is also discounting real world considerations, like Kehexou's Militia being stuck on islands and the fact that the supply base for such forces drastically favors the Anabetan side. If Myocaca is discounted, then it's 73,500 vs. 53,500, with 3,500 Professionals on the Anabetan side--not as good, and a 5:1 difficiency in Professionals, but still a commanding advantage when the simple fact is the Valin side can at best deploy maybe half its number, with large segments of its troops being needed for defense in its distant homelands, or being unsuited for front-line combat (eg: Urban Militia), or having a difficult time being employed (eg: Kehexou).

You can claim I don't know what I'm talking about of course, but from where I sit, Kal'thzar has the more valid point.

That tally pleasantly ignores the participation of Kalmar, and assumes that Myocaca is fighting on the Anabetan side, which has not yet become clear, since they haven't made any declarations of war against Veritas or any Veritasan allies.

If the discussion is just Khemri vs. People Fighting Khemri, my point stands.

Well, there are also, of course, cultural considerations to be made, and the fact that Khemri has just come out of a devastating civil war. It is largely held together by the will of Anabet, who hasn't had a peaceful opportunity to cement his rule. If he pushes too far and fails, it may be curtains for his empire.

Your point stands if you can get all your forces into battle, in a straight fight. It took four to five Sherman tanks to kill a Panther, you know--usually with bad results for the first two to three. Germany still didn't win the war. Which is not to say you'll lose either, since that analogy doesn't take one very far in agricultural societies, particularly ones just emerging from civil war as Iggy points out. But dismissing it so lightly is... unwise.

Josef Stalin had a point. "Quantity has a quality all its own."

To: Kingdoms of Destre, Trinlin, Magland, Felaran Kingdom of Rozan, the Hiutus and The Rajkutran Empire
From: The Han Empire of Guangfei

On the behalf of His Imperal Majesty, Emperor Diankang, the Han Empire of Guangfei would like to offer an unique proposition to her Southern neighbors. Out of a sense of moral duty, His Imperial Majesty would like to propose to all of your respective Heads of Government that Han scholars, doctors, astronomers, architects, lawyers and many other skilled professions be granted permission to enter your respective countries. His Majesty wishes that his neighbors' subjects will all benefit from increased food production, better education, safer and sturdier buildings, improved government efficiency, superior medical practices as well as a superior understanding of the Heavenly Skies.

His Imperial Majesty politely waits for your response.

Pending a complete and detailed list of professions, we tentatively approve and gratefully accept your generous offer. However, we retain the discretion to block certain professions and we most certainly retain overreaching power in deciding our participation in this program.

TO: Guangfei
FROM: The Rajkutran Empire

Rajkutra must respectfully decline Guangfei's offer. We are fully capable of managing our own affairs. While we would be delighted to have more dialogue between Han and Andhari scholars, we will not accept patronage like some vassal state.

However, we would gladly consider a policy of mutually open borders, so that our respective peoples may benefit from the exchange between our two great cultures. We would also be grateful for the closer ties with our greatest neighbor.

Understandable, His Majesty recognizes and understands the decision of the Kingdom of Destre. Yet one should remember not to scrutinize a gift horse too much, if only to spare the giver of the gift.

The Han Empire of Guangfei apologizes for any offense taken. We admit we are a bit taken back by your accusation for His Majesty has only offered his aid to his neighbors out of the goodness of his heart and a heartfelt dedication to improving the lives of not simply his subjects but of all, much like the Great Citadel of Old.

However, His Majesty is willing to agree to a policy of mutually open borders as well as increased dialogue between our scholars.

We will agree to this offer pending we retain the right to restrict or remove any who we choose. We do not mean offense with this, but we wish to retain our national identity. We continue to encourage trade between our two nations.
