Liq-01 Flaming Barbies on the Grill.

I just realized the square 1 tile south of the dot in my dotmap might be a better location for our next city since it doesn't waste tiles on the three mountains in the north.

Roger on the dot. South is better, mountains stink :p.

Glad we have Machinery. Crossbows will do us good. What was the reason for Alex's catastrophic drop in military power? Was his war against Izzy going that badly for him?

I agree with the dotmap (updated) suggestion. On the other side of the river, no mountains and we'll eventually be able to log the tundra forests, right? Looks good.

I think fighting Alex is in our future though, not Ghandi. Our close borders are bound to be making him angry.

see silver? liq saw sunlight... no thinking when sunlight is up!!!

yeah that's it!

wow nice dot map btw merz.. makes me feel like a photoshop pro!!!

Cheers!

I bet that Alex ran into financial difficulties and had to disband many of his units. It seems like his drop occurred after the war with Izzy, no?

that boggles my mind.. I simply cannot imagine running out of cash to pay militaryunless one is losing entire cities enmass.

I mean the closest I got was that 3ccc sg where I trashed all the obsolete units sans Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope. Even then it was purely optional, just to help out our enconomy to pump the culture up another notch.

Makes sense though seeing that monsterous stack alex had.

As for the GP, machinery really was the path to take... xbows, maces and catapults will simply own.

Imo bulk up on the infantry now and get cats when they become avail.

Time to make ghandi pay for his crimes against the barbs.

Cheers!

Yup, we need to press our tech advantage with macemen and cats while we have it.

I'll have a save posted sometime tomorrow. Can't tell you when, because I dunno when I'll finish it.

(0)1075AD: Preflight check. The gold is eeking out of our precious civilization at quite a high rate. Something needs to be done about this. I trade Alex one of our Corns for 4 gpt. Stops the bleeding a bit, but not by much. I don't want to start trading our techs away either.

I'm sort of in agreement with Muf about attacking Alex... Sort of... You see, Ghandi had nothing to trade me for that corn. And Alex has a large pile of promoted units sitting around in his cities. So I will be going along with this "Attack Ghandi" plan, although I doubt we'll have the strength during my turn.

Oh yeah. I noticed we never even RESEARCHED horseback riding, thereby denying us our UU. Too late to remedy that now, although we'll need to get it for knights.

(1)1080AD: Morbid Mistress begins chopping trees outside of our city radius.

Liq, my gut feeling here is to turn S&M City into a new Colonge. There's just a TON of forested land to the south covering up all the tundra. It would be no good if we chopped it. I'm thinking we should farm out the land north of S&M, and lumbermill the south. Forget the cottages down here, as there isn't that much food to go around.

Y'know... I just realised, we can't build lighthouses on lakes. So our cities ringing our nice freshwater lake aren't really getting too much of a bonus out of it, although it's as good as an ocean with a lighthouse to them.

I send S&M Settler on his way. I'm pulling up some units standing in the middle of safe territory to go with him, although he'll have to wait a bit.

Some barbarian warrior is hanging out on our Stone. I clobber him with an Axeman.

IBT: Lars Deforrest takes out a barbarian swordsman that attacked him.

(2)1085AD: The rate at which we're hemmoraging gold is nuts. Serious have to build some courthouses. They should take priority from now on.

IBT: Lars Deforrest clobbers a barbarian archer.

(3)1090AD: Maceman done it Rockland. Good and bad. We're beyond unit maintenence already by 10 gold. Strangely, Market is preferable to courthouse here, as courthouse would only save us 1 gold, while market would multiply our income. Start on Market.

Deux Riveres founded at the little lake with two rivers :p, one square below the ruins. I notice that the gold is unfortunately within Alex's borders now. We're going to have to work for it.

(4)1095AD: Rexburg finishes a maceman. Start on market.

Turn science down to 30%. Still bleeding 3 gpt and only 19 gold to go. Will run for as long as possible.

(5)1100AD: Construction comes in. We can now build catapults. Yay. Tough descion on what we need next though. I opt to go with Drama. It's off the AI's beaten track, and the other techs aren't really useful to us, or will take too long to research.

KB done the forge, start on courts.

Liquidia done the forge, start on market.

(6)1105AD: FINALLY! Lord McCauly decides that we don't suck anymore and rates us the largest civ in the world! Well... that just means we have more land to defend.

I decide to send Morbid Mistress down to Deux Riveres to make a road there, and in general make the place habitable.

Ugh... Fabulous. I try and find trades with everyone, and suddenly, Alex, the only person I'm trading with, is there worst enemy. Ghandi and Izzy both hate Alex. This sucks. I don't want to break the trade with him, because it's getting us more money. Yet I don't want people trying to kill us.

(7)1110AD: Uh, wow, nothing happened except a chop came in for Rockland.

(8)1115AD: Library done in Eagle's Nest. Start on courts. We need food in here so we can work those high shield tiles...

(9)1120AD: Morbid Mistress starts the road, more chopping being done outside out borders :)

(10)1125AD: LOL. Izzy tries to threaten us for Metal Casting. I say take a hike.

Turn Synopsis. We need a war to get us out of this economic slump. It's not that we lack the money to research, but a lot of that money is going into troop maintenence. As well, we have paltry amounts of maintenence around, which is quite annoying since courthouses will have minimal effect.

The stack is stationed near Bombay, and can make a quick attack on it, although without cats, it will be bloody, as I haven't built any yet. We can quickly retool over to military production in most of our cities, but our economy will take more hits from that.

Stack near Bombay.

Got it. Will start playing shortly :hammer:

For some reason I thought I was supposed to be playing 15 turns. Half-asleep. Must. Not. Play. Civ. Before. Coffee :crazyeye:

I agree with S.ilver about Gandhi. He is small and weak at the moment, so we should remove him sooner rather than later. Taking over his lands would also allow us to expand into the east, while Isabella and Alex fight over their more restricted corners in the west.

So, using S.ilver's thoughtfully prepared stack:

Lick01.jpg

Turn 0 (1125 AD)
Liquidia grows: 7
Eagles Nest grows: 5
Deux Riveres's borders expand

Turn 1 (1130 AD)
Chichen Itza was built somewhere, but evidently not by Gandhi as the defenses at Bombay have not changed.
Axeman promoted: Shock

Turn 2 (1135 AD)
Ugh! Bombay is on a hill with good defenses. S.ilver is right: this could get very bloody.

Lick02.jpg

I believe there are some sacred words that one is supposed to utter on such occasions. Oh yes: "Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good"
Seriously, I think those results were much better than we deserved. Next target: Gandhi's iron site to the south.

I've started setting up an attack on Minoan. It shouldn't present much trouble once the cats have arrived. Then Gandhi will be down to his last two cities.

Lick03.jpg

I think we should consider trying for the Parthenon at Rex after the Epic has finished. With Gandhi on the ropes I think we have a good chance of grabbing it.

Isabella is ticked off with us as I refused to stop trading with Alex and - horror of horrors! - I declined to convert to Confucianism. She is bound to attack us sooner or later. Better think about beefing up the defences on the SW border, and how we might curry favour with Alex.

Overview of our lands:

nice scowler, silver was talking in code up there..

please place heroic epic in sm, not rex, just eat the build time on it..
1 turn left on heroic epic in rex...

do we really want it there or do we want it in another location like sm as silver was mentioning..

production is not our weak point commerce is, better to keep rex open for cash.

Hold off on finishing heroic epic for not sir toma let the sg haw it out.

Cheers!

Rex is building national epic, Liq...

:smoke: :smoke: :smoke: :smoke: :smoke:

Yeah, before anyone takes my suggestion about S&M into heart, have a second opinion check on it. I windmilled one of the hills, but I have no idea if it has enough food to support that kind of production.

man liq was :smoke: hahahahahahahahahahaah.

I never can keep those names strait dammit hahaha:crazyeye:

ok nm liq's nyquil induced rantings:D

Nice round though scowler, poor ghandi didn;t have a chance did he.

Overall lets make this win domination. Seriously at a loss on how to keep perma barbs other than outright scriping.. may need to do that =/

Cheers!
-Liq'd

Perhaps we should have gone with a larger map... I have a feeling this is gonna be too easy.

it is too easy.

Really it's just a prince game and this collection of idiots will eat a prince level vanilla alive.:(

I was trying the greece world mod and they had insane barbs late game from scripting. May have to go that route.

Oh well lets steam roll this and maybe cook up a raging barbs scenario that actually rages instead of wimpers pathetically.

Good news is though, great plains and highlands are some really fun maps.

Cheers!
-Liq

Let's do Emperor for our next game... nothing to fancy in regards to variants. I've won an Emperor OCC in a private game (after Merz-01... must have got lucky since I found it real easy to occupy the other civs in wars and didn't launch till after the millenium), but not an Emperor ordinary game.
