Are you certain about the details? Vikings and French cannot both be in the game at the same time.Kessey said:I was the Vikings, and the Romans and French were at War.

Kessey said:I'm playing right now as the Mongals, after reading Ghengis Khan's biography (okay a loose one since not all the facts about him are confirmed). Anyways, the Carthinagins asked for a peace treaty, but I refused. Separating our nations was a single square of land with a forest (the rest was water and neither of us had any sea-traveling advances yet). So I built a fortess in the forest and stationed a unit of archers there.
The next turn, it said, "Sneak attack by the Carthinagins!" However, the unit that attacked them got wiped out in a single round. I declared war on them, but they had to get past my archers to get to me. They never asked for a peace treaty, they just kept attacking my archers, and my archers kept wiping them out.
In the end, they lost nearly half their entire military trying in vain to get past my archers, who never suffered a point of damage.
You'd think some people would learn after a while...
Take care,
Jay

Nope, I'm not kidding. I just sat there, dumbfounded, and not a little angry -- that battleship was important for my civ's survival, and I couldn't build another any time soon.CivFan91 said:Are you freaking kidding me? A Trireme beats a Battleship? That's messed up!
My battleship wasn't damaged at all before the trireme attacked. It had just left port and was minding its own business (okay, it was on its way to attack somebody, but not the French!Boco said:Your battleship must have been severely damaged before the trireme's attack! On average it should take over 210 triremes to knock off a BB on the ocean blue in plain vanilla Civ2. If the BB is in a port, the number dips to 53.
If a BB has 38 points (out of 40) of damage, the trireme would have about a 2% chance of victory.

An elephant against an armor isn't nearly as crazy as a trireme vs. a battleship. A vet elephant actually has a slight "battle" edge when attacking a non-vet armor (6 vs 5), the problem is the hitpoints. To win the elephant needs to win 30 times before losing 10. In order to have movement left, the elephant would have to win 30 of those battles before losing 5. Highly unlikely but not out of the realm of possibilities. The trireme (attack 1) vs. a Battleship (defense 12, hp 4, fp2) would require 40 wins at 12:1 odds against, before losing 5 times. Random is random but that's just nuts.Dark_Wolf said:Then low and behold what do I see... an elephant charging up on my armor... "What are you kidding me... This is an over sized elephant gun on treads," I chuckled as I watched not just stomp the armor in to the ground but continue up the path to take out two riflemen...
