LK128 - What the? Who the?

Come on, we play for fun, and i really think your turnset will be fun.
The turnset is finished and being reported. However, I won't use the word fun. I was stressing out with so much going on in so many areas. Lack of bombard units slowed me down, but I had to keep building pikes...

1220 AD
I change the captured cities to theaters. We need to establish our culture. Encouraging the growth of motherland whiners is the last thing we need.
What I would give for a few fast units. Fighting 2 units with speed 1 is tough.
Not a lot of whipping as most of our cities are already suffering.
(IT) American begins to approach Seoul.

1226 AD
The RnG starts with an attitude as an 88% pike attack on a WE fails against American.
It is all quite on the Carthage front, as I send the big stack to heal.

Utica gets double whipped for a library and a theater. That takes care of all the unhappy people that would have starved for the moment.
(IT) This is just plain silly.
lak1260xs1.jpg

1232 AD
The odds favor letting the AI attack, so I do nothing vs. America.
(IT) The AI attacks with a single unit at Seoul.
The war gets tougher as Hannibal starts sending knights toward production city and Pusan.

1238 AD
I kill the knight by Carthage, but lost a WE and 70% odds. I wanted to keep the medic pike inside the city to heal our stack. I killed the 1 knight in reach by production city.
I lost one unit, but I killed the American stack. With a bucket it probably would have sat there forever bombarding, and I need to free units up for the rest of the front.
(IT) OUCH - I lost a precious bucket on the Carthage front line, when a knight snuck in and killed it. I have no idea where that knight was hiding as I thought I was out of range. My number one problem versus Carthage is lack of bombard units.
I accept Saladin's offer of open borders.

1244 AD
I am really getting frustrated with our horrid road network. I have knights of Hannibal's that I want to attack by Production city, but I can't due to the complete lack of roads by the city. Our irrigation chain will be broken, and I can't do a thing.
I lose another pike at 70%+ odds.
 Where did that WE / bucket pair of America disappear to?
(IT) America is an idiot, and doesn't pillage the open farms. This is a case where I don't mind him pillaging a cottage.

1250 AD
The attrition rate versus the knights has been absurd. I again lost a pike at 70%+ odds.
Production city starts on Hwachas. If the AI will leave us alone we can finally get the needed bombard units to go back on the offensive.
(IT) We get a breather, and no new units enter our territory.
GACK - We hit the 20% odds and get a useless artist.

1256 AD
Since the artist offers useless monotheism I don't think he is worth using to light bulb a tech.
I move use forward in tech, and pick up enough cash to stay 100% science for a few more turns.

lak1261lq2.jpg

We get a nice jump in trade income, as we can connect to the AI trade network again rather then depend on self-trade.
(IT) The AI ignores us again. Can America be spent?

1262 AD
The bombardment of Leptis begins.
(IT) I research monotheism to see what might upon up in trade from the AI.

1268 AD
The artist culture bombs Carthage. There are so many angry people that I whip a theater and a courthouse.
Leptis is bombed down to 0%.

1274 AD
It cost 2 sacrificial Hwachas and a bucket, but we are moving forward again.
lak1262ly8.jpg

The AI now will trade theology. Since that is only two turns that will be my next tech target and lets hope that we can find a good trade for chemistry after that.

1280 AD
For once a pike works, and the American knight by Seattle dies.

Forces are starting to gather for the next part of the assault. The bad news is we need a lot of worker actions to get the dyes and gold on-line. The worker hiding in Yayoi looks very yummy.
This is the key objective of this war. Dyes and gold to help with happiness will work really well with forges and all the theaters we have build.

lak1263vm6.jpg

I upgrade a couple of CR2 maces to grenadiers. We don't have a lot of units that are worth spending the cost to upgrade as we have very few promoted maces.

=======================

Summary:
Current plans
Please complete the frelling road network. I suffered more pillaging then I should of due to lack of roads. Not to mention having a hard time getting troops to the front. Despite dedicating almost all worker actions to roads we still have way to many gaps.

The next goal is a level 4 unit so that we can finally build HE. The best I could get is a unit at 9/10 despite all of the fighting. With a MA and HA production city can pump troops at an absurd rate.
Tatran will get our next GG, as we are at 59/60 experience points. I am open to suggestions how to use him.

Remember 15 peace / 10 war turns per round. STRICT 24 hours got it, total 48 hours to complete.

Win target: Open, but I would like a military win if possible.

Small wonders
Heroic Epic - I would suggest Production City.
Globe Theater - I am open to suggestions. We do have some of the needed theaters built.
Wall Street -
Oxford - I am leaning toward Seoul.
Forbidden Palace -
National Epic - it is built in Seoul.
Iron Works -

Pre-turn
I don't understand why we're researching Theology.
Everyone knows it, France has already built the Sistine Chapel and
Arabia has founded Islam.

Research : Theology -> Nationalism
Civics : Decentralization -> Free Market

Caravel destroys an American caravel, Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar
(Great General) has been born in Seoul.

Favorite civics :
Louis XIV -> Mercantilism (old Roosevelt)
Saladin -> OR (old Hatshepsut)
Brennus -> OR (old Ramesses)
Roosevelt -> Bureaucracy (old Peter or Kublai Khan, not Qin)

Random personalities are more suited for a different type of game.

I got confused again, vassal states are on. I remember LK mentioning somewhere
to turn off this feature in his SGs.

IBT 1280 AD
Brennus wants us to convert to Hinduism. I see no reason to do so.
A revolt in Carthage.

IBT 1286 AD

This sounds good to me.

1292 AD (2)
Research -> Replaceable Parts

1298 AD (3)
Our pikes are doing a bad job against the American knights.
(1-6) -> lost pike, (4-5) -> American knight dies
(0-6) -> lost pike, (2-6) -> lost another pike

Research : Replaceable Parts -> Military Tradition

1340 AD (10)
Research : Military Tradition -> Constitution
Try trade it for Chemistry with Catherine or Louis. Same thing for Replaceable Parts.

Current plans
Tatran finished up our first objective and secured the rest of happy row from Hannibal. :)

Carthage will be useless with multiple revolts until the city south of it is gone. IMHO that city is junk, and simply should be razed. I would like to be a priority to take out. Our next objectives should be here, and with Philadelphia / New York.

With both of our enemies spent, I see no reason to stop the war.

With Heroic Epic finally available, I would like to propose we build it next set in Production City. We should be able to pump troops at an absurd pace at that point.

Tatran has finished is set, and I still haven't gotten a suggestion for our GG. I don't want Bede to play until we agree upon his use.
GG is one of the areas I am still really weak with Warlords. The options I can see are military academy in Wonsan as shield city number 2. The bad part is we will to build income buildings here negating part of his value. I don't see any other city that justifies a MA. We could put him in Wonsan to hyper build better units.
I really don't understand the advantages of attaching him to a unit.

Bureaucracy + Free Religion are the best civics for our empire and
foreign relations. So we could use the Great General as an instructor
in Production City to get level 3 units.
On the other hand if we send over some missionaries to the Buddhist
continent those civs will switch to Free Religion, we can use the
religious civics and they will like each other less.
If we want West Point we could attach him to a cavalry unit. None of
our units will reach 26 XPs soon.

Got it.

Heroic Epic/Military Academy/Di combination is the bee's knee's for a troop depot like Production City.

Instructor in HE seems obvious to me, an i would like the cottages in this city farmed or workshopped.
Research is a mess imo. We have put beakers in Theology, Replaceble Parts, Military Tradition and now Constitution is being researched, and my favourite Steel is being ignored....????

I'm slightly confused, Brother Bede...
Heroic Epic/Military Academy/Di combination is the bee's knee's for a troop depot like Production City.
Di? As in Lady Di? Or Drill Instructor aka Military Instructor? If so can I assume that this GG will be used for the Instructor?

Drill Instructor, natch. Somebody has to make those grunts do their push-ups.

Check the peace table first.

No deal with Roosevelt

Civ4ScreenShot0006-3.jpg

And no deal with Hannibal. He won't capitulate as he is afraid of our enemies.

Civ4ScreenShot0007-2.jpg

No battles just moving the troops around, Hannibal's galleon is probing up the east coast and drops off a settler team on the island for a new Punic colony

Civ4ScreenShot0008-2.jpg

And a Roosevelt probe on the Pusan Production City axis

Civ4ScreenShot0009-2.jpg

And the pikes are not doing well against Roosevelt's knights. We trade a pike for a knight, getting the kill with the War Elephant

Hannibal is pillaging fishing nets on the east coast with his galleon and villages at Utica with a knight
And the pikes are again net losers. Trade a pike for a knight and get another War Elephant kill.

Start the Epic at Production City after dropping in the Military Instructor and training one more grenadier.

Upgrade a galley and pay Carthage back by pillaging a fishing net and sinking a caravel

Start a frigate - we need a better navy

In 1376 Brennus and Roosevelt sign a peace treaty. Expect to see a few more 'Murricans soon

Start the move on Thanae in 1385. The battle for Thanae is an easy one - a round of bombardment and the grenadiers move in for the raze

Civ4ScreenShot0011-2.jpg

Seoul finally finishes its Forge in 1388. The city was set to grow rather than produce.

Carthage is at it again with his pillaging galleon at Leptis

Make a deal with Catherine for Replaceable Parts

Civ4ScreenShot0010-2.jpg

In 1394 start to move in on Philly but have to deal with an American knight first. The pikes are again weaker than they should be and end up trading a pike for a knight. Roosevelt sends in another knight to threaten the copper mine at Seoul and this time a pike kills in one try.

Sink another of Hannibal's ships.

The force from Thanae is moving in on Hippo

Civ4ScreenShot0015-1.jpg

Roosevelt has another knight moving towards Production City

Civ4ScreenShot0016-2.jpg

And the force at Philly holds on for at least one more round of bombardment.

Civ4ScreenShot0018-2.jpg

Saladin has gone Democratic and implemented Emancipation.

This deal can be made with Louis but I held off, I would rather see Military Tradition then Constitution, though the money would be nice.

The tech path had only one goal, to get 3 techs for Chemistry.
But, we had to invest a little in those techs. At higher levels the AIs
won't give you a tech for a tech if beaker costs are the same.

So Bede should have stopped with his constitution-research earlier. This kind of researchtactics doesn't really work in sg's, it needs better agreements between the players.

0 1400 AD Upgrade caravel to frigate.

IB Pike near Seoul killed by knight....

1 ....Musket takes revenge, our WE kills a knight near Production City.

2 Constitution > Liberalism
Suddenly an American army threatens Seattle again.

roosbedreigtseattlees2.jpg

Again i can't defend this stupid city, but luckely we can capture Philadelphia this turn ....

battle of Philadelphia:
treb dies to longbow,
treb dies to longbow,
grens kills longbow,
grens kills mace,
grens kills longbow and captures the city

capturephiladelphiaqa1.jpg

and make peace with Roos for WM and ~350 gold (refuse theology)

Hannibal still has 2 city's more than Roos so we can safely continue our war with Hannibal without being afraid him vassalizing to Roos.

3 bombard Hippo to zero

IB suddenly 2 Cartegian knights appear near Seoul.

4 Open borders with Roos to be able to attack one of them with our pike in Seattle, but he still can't (and i still don't understand why), so let them pillage next turn, upgrade a warrior in Seoul to pike.

battle of Hippo:
hwacha retreats,
treb kills defender,
treb dies,
3 other capture Hippo

capturehippowk9.jpg

The courthouses in Philadelphia and Hippo allow us to build the FP (suggest Chartage)

IB hamlet and copper near Seoul get pillaged by knights.

5 lose 1 pike but kill both knights

6 Liberalism > Military Tradition
Pike kills knight near Production City. Scouting grenadier on american ground reveals a whole american army near Seoul.

sodroosxg6.jpg

Bombard Sicca

7 Hannibal has made a real army to take back Hippo:

hanibalbedreigthippokz8.jpg

IB Hannibal attacks Hippo with 2 trebs, 1 retreats, the other dies, 2 cats join his army.

8 Hippo is to strong defended for my army to take it without risk and without heavy losses so it waits to get some help.

Don't know what you think of this deal, but to get rid of Roos' SOD i decide to bribe Brennus to declare on him

brennusomgekochtaw5.jpg

For the same money i could let him declare on Hannibal too, but i prefer to let him concentrate on Roos, we will get rid of Hannibal.

IB Hippo get attacked by 2 cats, 2 trebs, WE and crossbow, only the last one survives and kills a longbow....

9 ....but get killed by our grens.

10 1460 AD Military Tradition researched, suggest Steel as next tech.

riflingfromlouisft2.jpg

smfromcathykc2.jpg

Get spices from Cathy for our only wheat, next turn when we capture Sicca we'll get another wheat.

Help-stack has arrived at Sicca, it will fall next turn.

siccajg5.jpg

Whip a theatre in Philadelphia that has come out revolt and already has 37% Korean culture thanks to Seoul!

We get an Great Engineer!

Suggest to take all Cartegian city's on the main land, Production city can go on with units while most other city's should build infra (uni's for Oxford)
