LK68 - More AWE -

It is an unusual situation in that even this late into the game, we are still lacking in both infra and troops.

In addition to Stock exchanges, I would like to be able to upgrade to infantry/artillery in case of need.
Or even rush something on the other cotinent or the islands.

If we do research, that is not going to happen.

I would go all cash for another 5-10 turns before cranking up research, just to see what we can accomplish with our military. There are some 20-30 riflemen crawling towards our outpost. It will probably suffice with our 14 cannon and 3 cavalry armies, but it would be easier and better to have artillery.

I think our best source of rushing money will be nailing more Greek cities. The question is how long until we can hit the next one?

We only get some 200 gold now from the greek cities. It is two turns of healing for our armies before we can hit the next city.
It seems like the greeks are doing our job though, as their population is melting. I never checked, but I assume they are fascists now, considering their pop is dropping rapidly.

Well I know where the best economy help will be - Delphi. The Greeks were nice enough to build Smith's for us. ;)

Rescuing from page 2.

I suspect Indepence Day is why Meldor is overdue.

That, as well as LK65 :)

Happy independance day to those who celebrate that now.

How about tile flooring in the masterbathroom and 3 ceiling fans to keep me occupied. Here it is, sorry it is tardy.

1500 AD (0)
We need to kick this thing in high gear. We are seriously bedhind in tech. I swap Cumae to a galleon and rush it.
(I)We lose a bunch of slaves in Greekland. I didn't think of them until too late, otherwise I would have disbanded them.

1505 AD (1)
I kill a single Cav in range of our spice city. I don't think we have a shot at the Greek capital until we gat at least a second army there, I swing the troops south Sink 2 Greek and one Mongol Galleon but lose a Frigate. Load up 3 Cav and an Inf to go take Lugdunum back.
(I)Not much. The Germans seem to have gotten excited about us getting an army near their capital as rifles from the surrounding lands rush in to defend it. They also land a rifle two longbows and a settler on the southern island.

1510 AD (2)
An elite Cav and Elite Knight fail to take out the rifle so they will get to found their city and we won't be able to do anything about it. Kill a bow on the northwast island and get an elite infantry. The Cav approach Lugdunum. I am afraid we are going to have to start arranging an assualt on the Germans. I would hate to lose this one at this stage due to a UN vote.
(I)The German Longbows head for the empty city. The rifle fortifies and they don't found the city. Lose a stray Cav. I forgot to cover an open square on the pennisula and Carthage lands four Cav there.

1515 AD (3)
Fail to take Lugdunum. Land a settler and Inf to fill the island out. Take out two of the three GErman frifles on the northeast island. Knossos is razed which nets us 7 workers and an arty. We also get 763g so that we can rush Cav replacements. Bomb the four Carthage cav to 1hp each and then leader fish. No luck.
(I) Germans still don't found. They must be going to send a major invasion somewhere as they are sending a ton of units to Heidleberg.

1520 AD (4)
Kill off more Carthage Cav and even a Keshik. Start upgrading some of the cannon in Greece to arty as money permits. Take out the last gGerman rifle on the northeast island. Take out the German rifle on the southern island and score two more workers. I let the forces at Knossos to stand and let the army heal one turn. It will escort the workers and arty back and then pick up more forces to assualt Athens.
(I) Only one Guerilla attcks and loses. Carthage drops off a rifle, two bows and a settler next to our forces on the northwest island. We get Hoover's.

1525 AD (5)
Take out 6 Mongols rifles and one Greek rifle losing ony one cav. Upgrade a couple more cannon. Found a city on the northwest and southern islands, both protected by Infantry. Take out the rifle and two bows on the northwest island to gain two more workers. The capital is back to building armies which we need to finish this game off.
(I)Not much to report. The German units that streamed to Heidleberg turn around and stream back out. Someone uses Propaganda and causes a city to riot.

1530 AD (6)
We take out another 5 Mongol units. Upgrade two more cannon. Start a settler and several Infantry on the way to building the next city in Greece. Land some workers on the island to the northeast. Almost all worker actins are completed, so I will start shipping workers over to the other island (leaving enough to clean up at least 3 pollution spots on the mainland.
(I)Nothing happens but more stacks move on our Greek cities.

1535 AD (7)
Leader fishing finally pays off and I get one. We have a new Cav army. The new army then takes out 2 guerillas and a bow that used to be Greek. We establish ourselves on top of the hill that will be our next city.
(I)Boy, the northwest island is really popular! We get 2 cav, 2 rifles and 2 bow from Carthage and a guerilla from Germany. I wonder what resource is there?. We found out that Lugdunum had rubber, do we guess Uranium? The Greeks found Troy on a spot that used to be a bigger city. We will take it after Atherns (If the next player so desires).

1540 AD (8)
The cannon does nothing on the Northeast island, I lose a Cav trying to take out the Guerilla and so I wait. Good thing I landed to Infantry there last turn. The two cav can reach the southern city, but there are two muskets and a cav left there to help out. The north city has two infantry and a musket. I will bring some more Infantry over next run. In Greece we found a city on the saltpeter hill and get a settler in place to found Knossos' replacement in two turns. We also take out 4 Keshiks a rifel and a bow of the Mongols and then 4 Guerilla, 2 rifles and 1 bow of the Greeks. All of this cost us one elite Cav, but a vet promoted to even it up. As of now, the flood of units in Greece has stopped. There are only a conscript Greek rifle and vet Guerilla and a Mongol vet rifle in LOS. We will have 3 full armies to tackle Athens next turn.
(I)The two rifles and 2 longbows attack our infantry and take 2 Hp from one, but make the other elite. The two Cav go after the muskets, costing us one musket but leaving both Cav redlined. The Guerilla moves south but can't reach the city for another turn. Nothing happens in Greece.

1545 AD (9)
The cannon work first shot and redline the Guerilla, our elite infantry then takes him with one shot. The Cav takes one of the redlined Cav and a well placed Musketball takes out the last. In Greece, we redline the 5 units within range. The last two cannon in Greece are upgraded. Three armies and eight Cav find themselves parked outside of Athens. I start building a few more galleons as the increase in prodcution has created more units per turn to ferry across. We also need to start looking at the northern cities as some of them maybe able to pull more than a single shield. Unfortunately, I do not have the tiem to go through the cities as I am late with this as it is and pressed to get it done.
(I)Not much at all. One city on the northeast island riots as it only had one MP.

1550 AD (10)
Re-enforce the island. In greece we redline every target. The first army takes out two vet and one reg rifle. The socond takes out 2 reg and 2 conscript rifles and we raze the city along with Universal Sufferage. We get 153g and four workers. The last army heads for Troy and takes out one vet Rifle , razing the city and gaining us another 172g. One of the redlined Carthage rifles gives us another leader and another Cav army. The tide is turning on this land mass and we should be able to sweep the enemy ahead of the settlers with the armies. Greece is down to 3 cities and should be our first target. We might consider taking a few armies north to Germany (when we have some spares) and start razing their cities. They are the leaders. I rush some Rax and other needed things.

OK, things have turned in Greece and we are on the offensive now. With two new armies (one of which still needs it's forth unit) we are starting to chew them up. The only pause may come when the German units finally decide where they want to go and get down in our area. There are two settlers on the way to replace the two citeis just razed. We have gone from 42% to 46% with the addition of the two islands and the two Greecain cites.

This one shouldn't get back to me.

This one shouldn't get back to me.
You should be carefull with this prediction. I think you said this one other time and it turned out false.

Actually, now that the back is broken on Greece and Carthage, and perhaps even Mongolia, the pillaging we did will work against us, as it will make it take a longer time to get settlers in place.

It could be that conquest might be faster.

Grimjack

We have a ton of workers we can move over to rail. As long as we keep the ones near the front covered with infantry, we should be able to rail darn near as fast as we can heal the arimies and hit the next set of towns.

Preturn: I think that we can still benefit from Corporation and the cash that would create. I investigate how quickly we can get it.
Raising science to even gold is 9 turns. Going one step further and setting towns that are corrupt to scientists will get us the tech in 6 turns at +27 gold. This seems worthwhile. I also change towns stuck at size 6 to aquaducts (which we get at 1/2 price) and switch to Civil Engineers which gets the aquaducts in 6 or less turns. We can then grow and hire more specialists.

Note that we are running 20% science and we had some beakers already dedicated (sanitation would be in 9 turns).

IBT: Build another army.

1555 AD: A lot of units going past one of the pillaging army. We may be hit by a lot of units. I may wait and see before sending off the armies to attack cities. We may need them. I also want to make sure that the resources to make Cav are not reconnected (or if they are it is only for a short time - there are a lot of places to check)

IBT: Hmm.. I am already too late, the mongols have cavalry. Well my unit has already been moving toward the Saltpeter, but will take several turns to get there, unfortunately.

1560 AD: Kill some units. Repel invaders on one of the islands.

IBT: Hmm Carthage has cav too. Our army is already on its way....

1565 AD: Enemy attacks are still light compared to our forces so I attack Sparta with two armies. The artillery is a big help.

1570 AD: Kills some enemy units. Pillage Carthage Saltpeter.

1575 AD: Attack and capture Sparta. Attack Oae, and Delphi and kill a rifle or two. Pillage Mongol Saltpeter and head for the rubber.

IBT: We get Corporation and start on Sanitation.

1580 AD: After capturing Delphi we can get Sanitation in 7. I am running a modest surplus to start getting us toward 1000 gold for Wall St.
We capture Delphi and gain around 50 gpt from smiths. .
I capture and replace Oea (meant to Raze and replace).
Greek is now an OCC with us attacking its final city.

IBT: Build another Army

1585 AD: Ok Carthage I know that the Rubber and Saltpeter is pillaged. For the Mongols, I know the rubber is pillaged and just came from the saltpeter, so all is set. Germany got rooked in the resource department - not a single resource.
We have plenty of slaves on our home continent so I merge in about 20 workers. This changes the gold situation, so I decide to go for Sanitation before Wall St. I run a deficit - Sanitation in 4. Hospitals to grow and battle field medicine will be nice to have.

Attack and Destroy Greece! We get Bachs! [dance]

IBT: Some galleons at sea are attacked. I will bring them back to port. Our large stack of Frigate that allows us to ferry units is not attacked.

1590 AD: Attack and Capture Theveste, Leptis Magna, and Leptis Minor.

After checking the cities, I abandon and replace Theveste. This city gives us a new Lux (incense)

IBT: Build our first 3 Stock exchanges.

1595 AD: Bombard, attack and raze the mongol town of Darhan. I settle a new town to replace it.
Attack and Capture Cirta.
Finally get a great leader. I can rush Wall St with it next turn.

IBT: Build 3 more stock exchanges.

1600 AD: Bombard and Capture Carthage. I rush Wall St in a two-bit town on the far continent that a culture expansion would help.

Notes:
We are at 56% land area. There is a good chance Lee will be able to finish this game off on his turn.

Sanitation is due next turn. At this point battlefield Medicine is probably the reason to build hospitals.

One other note on the save. The corrupt towns are set mostly to courthouses that will probably never complete. The idea is that one can switch to builds like settlers as needed.

Also I would double check there aren't settlers that are fortified. I remember there were a bunch when I took over and I am not sure if I woke them all. I meant to double check at the end of the turn, but I don't think I did.

1600 AD
I am not sure what happened to the policy of razing all cities. We captured Carthage which is an extreme flip risk with an army sitting in it. The only reason it survives is lack of combat settlers.

We have already crossed the winning threshold for population. I switch cities to max Civil Engineers to try and get a few more temples to complete.
(IT) I am not if it matters, but the next science project is Refining. I will keep lower science to kill building up toward $1,000 and Wall Street.

I watched a bunch of AI units wander around, but we are not attacked.

1605 AD
Our knight army arrives in Germany and begins a pillaging campaign.
The only military action is picking off a few stray units.

1610 AD
Hadrumetum is razed causing Carthage to move its capitol. I raze Utica to eliminate the Carthage cultural borders. New Kabah is formed.

1615 AD
New Ake is formed.

I slaughter a stack of German junk. We gain another leader from Lee's Magic Cavalry. The leader simply rushes a library. With us being at 58 of 66 a few more squares is the best thing to get.

1620 AD
I get a chance to use an elite JT, but all I got was a lousy worker.

I kill more Germans by New Ake.

Hippo is razed, and Carthage is down to a 2CC.

1625 AD
New Xcalumkin is formed.

Rusicade is toasted, and Carthage is a 1CC.

Lee Magic Knight attacks and gives another leader. :D
I spend the $30 and upgrade him to Cavalry. We are up to 59%, so I rush yet another library. Now I need to get a few new elite units.

1630 AD
I actually capture Sabratha. Do you want to know why?
LAK-427.jpg

The only bad news is I need to recall multiple armies to heal.

LAK-428.jpg

Yes, you read that right. I got a leader from a left over elite JT. Proof once again to never upgrade elites. He also got a new worker. :crazyeye:

We are now at 60%. Would you like to guess what the leader does?

I finally get a promotion to elite - Lee's Magic Knight. Can we get two leaders from that unit?
(IT) I shut of science and still get Steel in 13 turns.

1635 AD
Lee's Magic Knight dies trying to kill a 1 hp rifleman.
What a waste of an elite unit. I do promote a replacement elite unit for it later.

New Ek Balam is formed.

I rush my first temple with cash now that we are over $1000. The game may end before this border even expands.

1640 AD
I may regret it, but I keep Karakorum. I find it hard to burn down the Sistine Chapel.

1645 AD
New Tazumal is formed.

1650 AD
Where do I get the lousy 1% to go?
(IT) I get a border expansion, will that be enough?

1655 AD
I capture Kazan and Ta-Tu. That finally puts us over the top.

Meaningless Cavalry is formed. At this point what does another leader matter?
Battlefield Medicine is rushed.
(IT) I can tell it is over, as I let the AI kill some workers. :smoke:

We have the most cultured city in Chichen Izta. You don't see that too often in AW.

Our final score is a mere 4,745. :(
