LS Civilization Set

Well, for a civ with such characteristics (New cities/Barbarian Camps join you) I'd say something like the Imbangala would fit, but I doubt that's actually the civ you're hinting towards currently.

I was thinking about make it a part of Gallia. Current effect is too random (though it brings back memories).

There is simply no civs left for me, quite sad.

Really? I have so many civs on my wishlist even beyond my current roster.

Well, TPangolin listed me some civilizations like Nubia, Minoans or even Scythia and Vikings :crazyeye:. However, most of time I am making civilizations from ideas like this 'barbarian camps' things. And now I have problem to find fitting civilization. I don't want to make something like African kingdom (little interested in such cultures), while Huns, Mongols are already made.
Not truely want to make Goths neither.

I'd make the DoM and City list and such for the Imbangala (with the Barb Camp ability) but damn is it so difficult to find proper information about them without having to suscribe to british papers. :(

I may do it anyways, but it'll take me some time.

Oh, if you provide DoM text, leader name, spy names, city list, valid unit name and something about second unique, I would probably feel obligated to do them.

This Summer something begins...

3 hours, but worth it.
Anyway, you win cookie if you know who is he.

I am kinda leaning to that being a new guy instead of a redesign, and I would be inclined to go for a Russian/Central Asian civ. The first ones I go to are like...Polotsk or maybe the Mamluks? ...oh man Polotsk would basically be a Belarus civ after I just said nobody would do Belarus ever and we all know how LS is

...So I am going to say that is Vseslav Bryachislavich. o.o

UA: Quilombo: Cannot found cities, instead starting with extra warriors. Cleared Barbarian Camps turn into cities.
UU: Gonzo: Replaces Warriors, can detect nearby Barbarian Camps and has a chance of converting defeated barbarian units.

DoM:
Spoiler :

Your people stand and greet you, oh grand Kasanje Kalunga Ka Kinguri, hero of the Imbangala and founder of the mighty Kingdom that bears your name. Born of a local Lunda chief, your disagreements with your sister brought you to carve your own path in history, first offering your services and that of your men to the portuguese, to later found your own kingdom with your followers, the terror of any and all peoples that would ever reach it's territory, finally settling down for a more peaceful future for your people.

Oh great Kinguri, yours was the power to found a Kingdom that could stand against it's neighbors and later fight against the colonial oppression, even as it fell centuries later. Your people are scattered and await for your return to restore their glory. Will you carve a new empire out of a band of warriors? Will you build a civilization that stands the test of time?

So finally it is here, the Imbangala!

Took me a while to research but whatever, it's not like I had anything else to do on a sunday. :p

Spy list was taken mostly from the names of the lineages of kings, as I couldn't find names for anybody else from the Imbangala, on the same line, the city list is a mix of various cities that were found among the region, as I couldn't find the names of the cities of the Kasanje Kingdom for some odd reason, any and all texts I looked didn't mention them.

Anyways, for the units, the Gonzo is easy enough that the very wikipedia page mentions it, it's the name of their basic infantry unit. The Great General's replacement is the title they gave to the Kings of Kasanje, who were all named after the founder (it certainly shows the legacy he left). I'd suggest changing the effect of the policy that grants a settler so it grants a Kinguri instead.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is how you design a civ that favours choosing Honor as the first policy tree.

I am changing only technical stuff (to make it AI friendly < or > to make it possible without some overcomplicated lua system):
UA: Quilombo: Cannot gain settlers, instead starting with extra warriors. Destroyed barbarian encampments turn into cities.
UU: Gonzo: Replaces Warriors, can detect nearby Barbarian Camps and may convert defeated enemies to your side.
UGP: Kinguri: Replaces Great General. Aside from the normal combat bonus, the Kinguri can annex city states whom you can demand tribute from and that fear your military.

You can discuss your ideas with HoopThrower.

Anyway, I lack some details:
(how many extra warriors?) - Right now, I assumed that it will be 2.
(Gonzo abilities upgrade) - Right now, I assumed that unit kept abilities with upgrade.
Can I put 'non-coastal land territory remains unrevealed for rivals until Flight' to UA?

I was thinking something like starting with 3 warriors (well, Gonzos technically) should be enough.
I believe the ability shouldn't be kept on upgrade or it'd make some terribly OP units through the whole game, but any way it goes is fine for me.
The other ability? Sure, I see no problem with it, though it may end cluttering the UA since it's complex enough already.
Hah, nice leaderscreen, to be honest I've got no idea how Kasanje should look like, so I believe it's fine.

[BNW] LS HT Imbangala (v 1)

Well, I am open to discuss eventually changes, but I would prefer do it once than upload it six times. Therefore, playtest carefully and take your time. Have fun, everything was tested at least once, but it doesn't guarantee mod to be bug free. I can send you project solution if needed.
Oh, I let myself made Gonzos not upgradeable by Ancient Ruins. Annexing City-State will trigger medium (30) diplo penalty with civs whom protect it (lasts 50 turn on normal speed).
What is more, barbarian encampment will not turn into city if within minimal range of other city.

Looks interesting! Definitely looks challenging to play as them.

The Imbangala are definitely pretty interesting, and have quite a bit of unique power to them.

One major bug I found was with the Kinguri - they can also annex capitals of other civs! This happened twice, first at the very beginning against the Aymara, when I wanted to see if it was just a display error - nope, I got their capital, alongside having their unique Settler and +4 faith per turn from their ability...somehow, I think it has to do with a dummy building. Second time I accidentally made my general annex Florence, the Tuscan capital when I'd intended to annex a nearby city-state. This was weird because for a time that was disabled, but came back in availability. Was this intentional? Both of them only had the one city, and were probably relatively afraid of my giant army. I was wondering if it had to do with both of them being mod civs and the GG is programmed in a way that it only looks for capitals of civs with one cities who aren't a list of civs packaged on there.

I dunno it just seems a bit weird and OP if you can just instant-conquer a civ so early on if that was indeed on purpose. (that said I'm probably losing that game because everybody else on the map is at war with me, and it's never a good day when you're in the center of China, Indonesia, the Aztecs, and Assyria)

Oh, and Hoop Thrower, could you give me information on the location of the cities for this civ? I'm mapping stuff of Civ V in Google Earth and have no idea where to even put their capital.

Uhm, well, I am gonna drop some image to distract you until I fix it.

Code looks for civ you can bully gold from (didn't except it to run for major civs, though I playtested it on immortal). Dunno, if somebody add dummy buildings to city-states, but I will fix it as well. Later.

I have been working recently on sets' update. I stacked on Scotland, I think UA is fine, UU is thematic, but second unique component might be more interesting. If you have any ideas (not necessarily it has to be UI) you would like to see, post now.

Scottish UU ideas - you could try the Schiltron or the Jacobite. Schiltrons were famed for their impenetrable stance towards Cavalry, which translates into civ terms pretty well. Jacobites have a lot to do with romantic nationalism, as well as revolution - perhaps something to do with Great People? For a UB, I could suggest a Tavern or the like, perhaps giving a Great Person boost because reasons. This may seem Great Person centric, but looking back at Scottish history, it's probably reasonable.
