ls612's C2C Units

Is Flint a map resource? It looks to me like the only source of Flint is the Flint Knapper building, and that goes obsolete at Bronze Working.

Flint Knapper dosn't give Flint. Flint Quarry gives Flint which requires Obsidian and Stone to be in the city vicinity. There is no specific Flint map resource (I wish there was).

I stand corrected. The Stone + Obsidian combo seems really difficult to get, though. Maybe Flint should be a map resource.

why should i use trensh cavalry ? i mean during world war 1 where trensh infantry was used the cavalry was totaly useles because of the machine guns. one machine gun can terminate hundrets of cavalry units in a minute while trensh infantry can hide in the trenshes at least. try to hyde a horse in a dugout

@ls612,

244 gold to upgrade a Hunter to a Ranger!?? Holy Cow Batman! That's really rough! Roughly 6 times the cost of upgrading an Atl to Archer. Or Stone Axe to Axe.

Was this intended? I can only assume it was, but why?

Yes. Because at that point I've seen that many people will have treasuries in excess of 100,000 gold, so 200-some gold isn't an issue. It does scale by gamespeed though (it's based on the cost difference).

If this scales to gamespeed what does it cost on Eternity? 20,000 Gold?!!

C'mon ls612! 244 gold on Epic is too much. Like I pointed out it's over 6x the cost of Any contemporary unit, on Epic. It takes on Epic up to 8 turns to recover the cost. I would really like to see someone post the cost of upgrading from Hunter to Ranger when Ranger 1st become available on Eternity. If it only cost them 244 gold or even 300 gold it's not scaling right.

JosEPh

Sorry to say this, Joseph, but it costs...

170 gold to upgrade from hunter to ranger on eternity. This was on a small fractal map, though I don't know if that influences anything. Oh, and I was on base v26.

OK, the Ranger is DH's unit, so he may have added an extra zero to it's cost by accident. Other than that, the Ranger is not as common a unit as Archers or melee, so if it is right it's not the end of the workd.

I have not made any changes to the costs of the hunter line of units. Should I have?

Upgrade cost is directly proportional to the difference in production (in hammers) costs of the units being upgraded from and to. The multiplier (for all upgrades) was increased (back to BTS vanilla levels I think) recently to remove cases where it was better to build old units and upgrade them even when you had the tech for the newer unit (most egregiously AtlAtl->Archer). Is it JUST hunter->ranger that you're seeing being an outlier? If so did the unit cost changes ls612 has been making recently hit the ranger especially hard?

Yes it's only the upgrade cost from tracker or hunter to Ranger.

The 1st time I upgraded to Ranger was from a tracker and it was 244 gold. I thought yikes But going up 2 levels okay I can deal with that. But then I upgraded 3 hunters over 30 turns to ranger and everyone of those Also cost 244 gold.

Is it a terrible deal? Of course not. But is it an Eye opener type deal Yes it is.

And as wolfensoul9 posted it only costs 170 Gold on Eternity then something isn't scaling right.

The code looks ok (it does have the game speed modifier applied correctly) - is it possible it was in an SVN that was in the middle of when ls612 was going through systematically reworking unit costs row by row? If so you may have had a revision in which the hunter had had its cost increased but the ranger hadn't? (or similar question to Wolfensoul)

Very possible as I've updated about 3 times this week alone, and will be doing another later today. I'm on rev 4170.

If it's still that way now I'll look at it, but it would seem that everything is working fine for me. You do know that we doubled the upgrade costs across the board a week or so ago, right?

What does it cost you?

Why did upgrade costs need to be doubled? Was it based on an Eternity(slower) games point of view? If so that was wrong. Seems to be too much weighting for the longer game speeds to me.

I could not find any graphics for them. I hope that SO might have something in mind. Otherwise I may need to re-texture some workers.

I also guessed on the costs so you would need to check on your price chart.

The special buildings would be stuff that we could design later that give special buildings that can only be made by Park Rangers and Ecologists.

Thanks in Advance! :goodjob:
