ls612's C2C Units

Does Elephants include Mammoths and Rhinos?

Mammoths yes. Rhinos no, since the Rhino Rider Upgrades into a Knight it end up being a Gunships. Notes that bears, bison, deer and giraffe also follow the knight route. If we had a rhino gunpower unit then it could possibly follow the elephant patterns, unless you want it to go ...

War Rhino -> Rhino Rider -> Bombard Elephant

@ls612

Please make sure the Bombard Elephant upgrades to the Elephant Gunner and the Elephant Gunner Upgrades into the Early Tank.

Elephant Rider -> War Elephant -> Bombard Elephant -> Elephant Gunner -> Early Tank -> Tank -> Modern Armor -> Plasma Armor

Yes, it should be on the Clockpunk Tech.

well just wanted to say thanks!!!! :D i always wanted to see that unit in civ 4 so thanks for putting it in :goodjob: !!!!!

p.s. just wanted to ask if you could make a sort of a clockpunk/steampunk driven robot unit because i'm working on a modmod that adds buildings into those techs and i think they would work well together....

OK, I have a new idea for some future units. The Hover Artillery and the Levitation Artillery are two new Artillery units that can cross water, but have shorter range than normal artillery.

Hover Artillery

Special Abilities
  • This Unit is Tradable
  • Doesn't Receive Defensive Bonuses
  • Maximum 90% Damage to Enemy Upon Attack
  • Causes Collateral Damage (Max 70% of 12 Units)

Do these sound good? Note that I would like for this to be a seperate chain from the normal NLOS cannon, which will upgrade to something else eventually.

@ls612

1. Would other artillery still be able to upgrade into this? Such as whatever comes before NLOS cannon (I forget what unit)?

2. The model for the Hover Artillery doesn't look much like a hovercraft. But the model for the Levitation Artillery looks like a Hovercraft. Perhaps use the 2nd model for the Hover Artillery and then we find a new model for the Levitation Artillery.

Note I might be able to make a model. It just would not be animated.

BTW, I checked with a military historian or two. Originally all nations cavalry units upgraded to tanks. However when helicopters came along they were given the cavalry traditions to fit them into the army.

This may seem somewhat out of line...

But would it be possible to have a unit called "Early Gunship" modeled after a Bell UH-1 Iroquois that comes after the Autogyro, but before the gunship?

I am a big fan of the Huey, and have always lamented its exclusion from Civilization.

I was actually thinking of having another helicopter unit between those units. Mainly because of the additional techs between the 2 units. However we do have the Medevac Helicopters too. The first Medevac Helicopter I think is a "Huey" too.

Cannot believe I missed that. I feel so silly now!

Anyway. what other potential candidates do you have in mind for "Early Gunship"?

Well I wanted to use the "Dragonfly" model in some way. However I would not know where to fit it in.

The Gunship is at Vertical Flight, and the Autogyro is at Aviation

Aviation -> Aerodynamics -> Vertical Flight

The Autogyro can get away without having Vertical flight tech since its a helicopter-airplane hybrid but the Dragonfly is all helicopter.

Also pushing the Gunship back would not be good since it would put it in the wrong time frame comparatively to other units.

Note that the AH64 Gunship requires Vertical Flight + Modern Warfare.

I suppose a possibly solution would be putting the Gunship at Vertical Flight + Guided Weapons. That would still come before Modern Warfare. It just would not give the Early Gunship much time. it would become obsolete really fast.

Build levitating artillery unit, shoot... and look as the Newton's third law of motion kicks-in ;) Maybe it could even displace the unit in the opposite direction.

Now, that I think about it, the "Dragonfly" would make a very good fit for "Early Gunship".

As for the "Early Gunship" becoming obsolete quickly, I think it comes with the territory. Historically, aviation has been a very face-paced industry that would often force nations to pour exorbitant amounts of money just to stay on the cutting edge of technology and engineering, or survive using firmly established, but slightly outdated hardware to save some of that cost.

Build in thrusters on the bottom, and have the computer make them compensate for the recoil. The forces should cancel out and allow the hover to continue.

1. Sure, the unit before NLOS would have the option to upgrade to the Hover arty.

2. Well, there weren't a whole lot of good models for hovering artillery. I figure that the earlier hover artillery would deploy wheels when on land to save energy. I think that that model would be nice as it has an animation.

1. I could not find anything that upgraded to NLOS Cannon. Did you? We may need to add it to the Artillery line, but what unit should upgrade?

2. Is it really "hover" if it has wheels? I still want to try to make some models, when I have time.

1. Wow, there's a bug that's been ignored for a long time. I'll fix that.

2. The wheels would only be used on land. Unfortunately, I can't make the wheels retract over water, but I'd prefer to have an actual animation for the unit, it is something that makes the unit feel more 'well done' to me.

Edit: Wait, we already have the Mobile Artillery model ingame. I'll see if I can find something else to use for the Hover Artillery.

Oops, missed this one at first. I have an idea about it. How about we give all Cavalry units the option to upgrade to the Early Tank, and the Early Tank or the Cavalry can both upgrade to the Autogyro. Sound good?
