Mac Native vs. Boot Camp (Gfx and Performance)

Reviving an old thread of mine that died because people were waiting for patches to see how much Mac native performance might improve.

Is there a verdict yet?

With a pretty powerful MBP (Core i7, 8GB RAM, 512MB gfx), will I get better graphics and/or performance playing Mac native or investing in Windows 7 and playing in boot camp?

Would love to hear from those who have done a first-hand comparison.

On my previous generation MBP (17" 2.8 w/9600M 512) the performance is definitely better and graphics look much better due to using DX11, but there was still that issue with the random crash, usually happened when meeting a city state. It drove me bonkers so I accept the slothlike pace on the mac version.

I really would like to run some mods though, I've used a couple that give the UI so much more useful info for gameplay.

Aoxo.

What's stopping you? It should be possible to run mods, since no one has Custom DLL capabilities yet. We're on a level playing field ... except for the fact that the Mac version doesn't know how to find and install them automatically. Tell us which ones you are interested in (with links, please), and maybe we can post some instructions on getting them going.

On mine, the Win 7 version was the same speed, but not stable, while the Mac version ran just as fast and rock solid on my 2 year old i7 with 6 GB of RAM and an ATI 4870 vid card. So, it wasn't worth bothering with Windows in this case.

I only ever had to use bootcamp to play games that Mac couldn't. That being said games always seem to run better on windows.

My 2.4 GHZ C2D iMac (4 GB ram, 24", ATI HD 2600) hasn't performed badly enough to tempt me to try Boot Camp.. except for PC-Mac multiplayer. But I haven't installed Windows on that yet.

My MBP is a 9400m, and unsupported by Aspyr (and therefore I didn't try it) .. it gets by in Boot Camp.

Okay, you got me off my butt and I found the files for InfoAddict and CivWillard and they a running a-okay. The question I have is how do you deal with a .civ5mod file?

Ags Resource info Panel is just a .civ5mod file and I can't seem to find a way to unpack it (at least I think that's what it needs).

It's a 7z archive. Use EZ-7Z to unpack it. See the FAQ for links to more info.
