Mac Steam Not Working

Has anyone else had this problem? Steam is hanging at "Download starting"... I just installed the game today and have wasted the entire night trying to get it to play. I have a 27" iMac with:

OS? Are you sure you meet the Sys req.?

System specs look fine to me, but in any case, Steam wouldn't stop you downloading it. Is there anything weird about your Internet connection? Proxy servers or additional firewalls? Also, use Exposé to display all open windows, and see if Steam has opened an alert window somewhere.
