Mad Scientists Nest generation RPC Summary/Bullpen

Not sure what RPC I will do next. Probably not something current although focusing on cornering the market on a type of resource sounds intriguing. Also a rampaging Atilla on a Pangea map is something I have a hunkering for lately.

I will not replay the classics though. They will stand on their own.

Ooh.... I got another idea,
How about never building workers? only stealing..
Was it done in a previous game?

Actually folks I am thinking a doing something different. If you recall I ran that Mad Mod a while back and feel like playing that. I am thinking of starting a new series, "Mad's World" Where we go through the 52 leaders with their new traits I made and see where we end up, creating the story and rules as we proceed. Perhaps talk about it by having the leader somehow transported from the Classic RPC series to a new world. USe a random leader each time, play as I get them!

That thread can be found under the RPC next generation summary.

If it proves unpopular then there is always Atilla.

52 New Mad RPCs yay :)

BTW, I still put out a note on the Protector of the Weak, if you get so lucky as to get the Romans with a Charis/Agg leadertrait, dunno if those traits still exists tho :)

OK folks, I will be starting a new RPC TNG this week (Maybe tonight).

Look for Atilla the Hun on a Huge Pangea map. Suggestions for which leader/civilization to take and game settings. Also please no Khans, time to wreck some decadent havok without Keshiks. Do I pull the trigger and do teh Boudica of Rome thing!!!

The next RPC afetr that has been set also, the Rockefellers! Leaders near and dear to me personally, about time I disgraced them. Any suggestions here?

Boudi as Attila? :crazyeye:

I'm thinking a Charismatic leader and for some reason I picture Attila on a horse. Dark Ages are not represented that well here but the closest thing would be Cataphracts and the Byz for the time period. So I"m thinking the Byz with a Charismatic leader. Actually, Boudi's counterpart Brennus would be ideal as the Spiritual trait would further augment the Char with some Vass/Theo switches. Or maybe Cyrus for Char/IMP and you might pop Attila. (The Byz aren't too far off the beaten path geographically and chronologically)

I read a bit about Byzantium recently, which went into how they dealt with Atilla. He wasn't really all about conquest; he destroyed a lot but also extorted a lot of tribute. I'm not sure how much territory he really controlled at any one time. I'm guessing an RPC play style might involve a lot of raiding, extorting stuff to get peace, and perhaps eventually vassalling territory without actually taking huge amounts over. I'm not sure what implications this has for leader or victory conditions or details of the RPC rules.

I think Boudica would fit very well as Atilla. Agg/Cha seem the next best thing for traits that fit him after Agg/Imp. As for the civ, I think any civ with a mounted UU would fit. (Mongols would fit best, but you already ruled those out)

If you want a mounted UU then that means:
  • Cavalry: Russian Cossack (too late)
  • Chariot: Egytian War Chariot (too early?); Persian Immortal (historically a melee unit)
  • Cuirassier: Spanish Conquistador (too late)
  • Horse Archer: Carthaginian Numidian Cavalry; Mongol Khesik (ruled out)
  • Knight: Arabian Camel Archer, Byzantine Cataphract
Camel archer might be OK: doesn't need iron, which makes sense for barbarians, and gets 15% to withdraw from combat, a bit like horse archers/Kheshiks.

OK, maybe the Byzantines are OK, Atilla can wager on the horse races in the hippodrome. I like Boudica, but maybe something different. How about Toku's traits?

How about rules

18 leader Huge Pangea with agressive leaders. Sure they are stupid techers but don't expect too much of an intellectual giant from me with Atilla.

We need to startw arring early and frequesntly. Major rule, can never stop warring during the game once started. We can negotiate peace but must attack someone else the next turn.

The hell with cottages and specialists. FArms/Mines/workshops/lumbermills/plantations/camps. We pillage cottages.

We try to feed the economy with pillaging and extortion.

We cannot build anything except military/defense based items, and perhaps a granery. We can keep and exploit captured building though.

Civics are limited to those that can get us military improvement.

Actually, the Sassanid Persians revived the Immortal as a Calvary unit not unlike the Cataphracts or early knights, and they existed during the time of Attila.

Well, mad, the Huns were a horse people, so I think a horse UU is a big deal and the Byz have the most apt unit era wise. I still think Charismatic would serve mounted much better and the Aggressive or Protective trait does nothing. IMP and Spiritual are nice traits to have in combo. Plus, it will be weird seeing Boudi's face and thinking Attila. Not that many other male leaders fit the bill. Probably the Mongol leaders are the closest in resemblance - not that that really matters.

Vassalage and Theo should be mandatory civics when available.

I like the military building requirement, but it would be a struggle without granaries and forges.
