Mad Scientist's RPC summary

How about you make the English civ Churchill? Elizabeth is too much of a pushover. it is supposed to be a role playing challenge, and CG3 longbows that churchill will have will pose much more of a challenge.

Regarding Stalin, I would like to see this a rule

1. No vassals for Stalin, the Russians must be the last civilization on Earth!

And although I would check for Iron and Oil, I would not add Horses or Aluminum if not there. There is a limit between making the game winnable and cheating, IMO. :) (Iron isn't nessecary either IMO but it helps a lot)

As a tip, I actually would wait till Rifles to do warring. Too much early warring will allow a few civilizations to become far too powerful. I learned that the hard way in my "Lincoln's Fury" game...I took out Isabella and Suleiman early, and that just allowed Julius Caesar and Mansa Musa to become far too big, and thus I stood no chance of taking them down when I had to.

And, I think you should regenerate for a coastal start. It'll be a lot easier.

As with Agustus, I am a little less sure of the OCC game! I was considering backing teh difficulty to Prince, but will play teh normal RPC monarch.

I will definitely give ourselves Horses and Iron.

I agree no vassals, Stalin trusts NOONE!

No permanent Aliances.

My RPC mindset on the Louis game was definitely off with teh error of the second Ragnar. However, comrad Stalin will definitely prove the supreme leader.

there isn't really any point in taking an OCC vassal anyway as they will break free due to your small size

whats your strategy going to be for this?
normally i'd tech for rifles and cossacks or even mech inf, whilst playing defensive. only really harrassing the other players in wars, pillaging and razing.

you definitely don't want to free up a lot of space for one AI to get huge, it may even be worth ading an extra AI, just to keep them all a bit smaller

I've never done a OCC before, so I'm likely to fail this one. Still, Mech Infantry massing seems ideal. They're non-UU stock march units, and they can be very well promoted (and can deal with anything, even shooting down air and ignoring much of that damage thanks to march). I'll probably mix them with mobile artillery, and use the latter SOLELY for bombardment, not caring if it gets damaged by air otherwise.

My reasoning for this is twofold: We need conquest, and we want to prevent monster AI's from forming. Doing this in modern era allows for mobility and tons of damage. Also, production in the capitol will be at its finest in the modern era, you'll probably be able to make an pay for a unit every turn at that point.

The problem will be getting there without being culture'd or space raced to death, or just being handed death outright . Might be a little tight at monarch but I'll see if I can swing it. You picked a good leader for it though obviously, with Industrious for wonderspam and aggressive for uber-powerful units later (another factor in favor of mech infantry IMO).

Cossacks can go to hell :p. Maybe if this were on warlord and you could cut through every single AI with them before anybody got rifles. I might be mistaken however, and would love to see someone pwn the world with rifles/cossacks.

The only OCC conquest games I've won were on either Settler, Chieftan or Warlord. They all involved mechanized infantry and modern armor.

Modern armor with cottarel damage promotions is like, the best unit in the game.

Every 100 turns there should be a mandatory purge where 2 citizens are whipped to build a unit then the unit is disbanded. The were plotting against the good of the State.

They are amazing but by the time they come into play, the game should be basically over.

Edit: Although, if you want to go to war with Mech Infantry, you could wait just a little longer and use Modern Armor. They don't come to far after them. ( one or two techs I think).

I have a suggestion for an RPC, specifically a BtS re-run of JerVL's fabulous Al Gore Challenge ("Beelining the Internet") from over two years ago. It is a highly entertaining story, so if you haven't read it yet, do that now :-).

You are any US American civ, and you're sorely missing Internet access in your empire, so you do everything to change that -- and not much else.

You have to build the Internet.

You can not research, or receive in trade, any technologies that are not strict prerequisites for Computers, and if there are multiple possibilities then the cheapest option has to be taken. Specifically, the following techs are not allowed:

Hunting, AH, Archery, HBR
Poly, Mono, Theo, Divine Right
Aesthetics, Literature, Drama, Music
Mil Trad, Liberalism (!), Rifling
and any later techs that are not on the beeline (obvious at that point)

We start with Agriculture (which is not on the beeline), so we are allowed to use that tech.

Furthermore you must not build any wonders that do not directly contribute to your research output (commerce/gold/beaker wonders are allowed, as are the Pyramids since they enable Representation and the Oracle since it grants a free technology). You may capture wonders from the AI, but Al Gore does not like to go to war anyway...

Also, since Al Gore is an environmentalist, you can not build anything that adds :yuck: to your cities (Forge and Factory are notable here).

If you manage to build the Internet all victory conditions are open. Secondary goals (after the Internet is built) include: adopt Environmentalism ASAP, build a National Park, found Standard Ethanol (BIO FUELZ ZOMG!!1!1!), win a Diplomatic Victory.

If all goals have been met, you are considered a true Al Gore and win the challenge.

What do you think?

Sounds a little harsh. Maybe you should make sure you aren't at the south pole like he was.
Either that or change all of the rules except the tech beeline one to rough guidelines ie: avoid forges/factories but don't make them agaisnt the rules

I like it.

Maybe as Roosevelt, I mean, Al Gore?

Sounds like a good game, other than not being able to trade for non-internet technologies.

I think at the beginning of the game you just set computers as your research goal, and from then on all tech choices are chosen automatically. But you can still make any trade you want.

I like the internet option although I have idea for both remaining Americans.

A OCC with Lincoln, renaming Washington to New York (Greatest city on earth!). The game should be essentially peaceful with the goal of bringing as much culture as possible to NY while aiming for the internet. It would be a good educational game, how fast can I reach the internet and how many free techs can I get!!!! The goal would be a space win as we got a Diplomatic and Conquest OCC win, I am interested ina space win.

I think this will be much later though.

The next RPC is Churchhill the English Bulldog!

If you rename it New York then Beeling "Jails" should be a requirement and building the Statue of Liberty a requirement.

Boosting culture? That's really counter-productive for a OCC....:crazyeye:

I also don't think that the Al Gore challenge would with an OCC...well, at all.

Still, Lincoln is one of the best OCC leaders, along with Ramesses, Gandhi and Bismarck.

This is the straightforward idea but it's a lot harder than just disallowing certain tech trades, because the beeline that the computer chooses cripples your early development (you don't get Mysticism before Machinery, for example).

You Rock Mad Scientist!!!!!

I recently came up with an idea

? the afraid
(don't know what leader to use)
Rules:
No slavery(scared of revolts), chopping(scared of activists), or drafting(scared of revolts).
No use of GP (Afraid they are great enough to upset his power)
No running deficit reasearch (Afraid of going broke)
Must keep a postive EP ratio with everyone (afraid of being spyed on)
VERY Pacifist

Might have to play a level lower than usual.

Just my 2 :commerce:

Your biggest fan,

A lot of leaders would be like that. Maybe Qin Shi Huang, wasn't he paranoid? Someone find a paranoid leader!
