Mafia: Information, Announcements, and Discussion

Hey, why was Love's game removed from the Large Game List?

I PMed everyone with an upcoming game (except you and me, of course) if they were still interested, what they wanted to name it blah blah blah. Love said he didn't want to host a game anymore, so I removed it. Bummer, it was a pretty cool idea.

Well, I COULD take Love's game if you really wanted me to. I finally figured out what it involves and how to play, and I totally should have played sooner.

EDIT: I'm not sure, are there any regular games starting soon?

I recommend that you play in a few games before you try and host one. Especially for a larger game, it's a very big process. And Large games typically take a month or two, and we have one that began recently and 3 in line. So feel free to host a game later, but we don't really need a Large game right now.

Since you are a new player, how do you like this thread? Is it sufficient?

Yes, thank you very much. and I can wait and I think that's a safe idea. I really want a normal one though, but I can't see any in the line-up.

No variations or twist just what you explained as basic.

Oh okay I see what you mean now.

The games are sorted by their size (Large or Small).

Yes, but I couldn't tell if any of them are basic or twisted somehow.

I'm not really sure, but you might want to play in a Small game to start off your career. Probably wouldn't recommend TLO's for a first time player, but maybe Bad Player's. I don't really know anything about any of the upcoming games except for mine, which I assure you will be awesome and that you will have a superb time playing it. :mischief:

TLO? You mean ToL?

Okay, thanks.

Most game shouldn't be classified in advance, as it'd be a giveaway on potential roles/abilities/items that haven't yet been discovered.

Well, it seems like Zack is making his own calls on classification, though I don't know what other GMs have told him.

Don't worry, I don't plan on classifying the games by anything more than the size. It's not like I even know what I would classify them by anyways. I don't know hardly anything about any of the games except the Star Wars one.

My game is called "The Toothless Mafia". It uses new rules which I will clarify later. I have nearly finished writing the script.

A strategy guide for new players would be good too IMO.

What's the usual % of players who are mafia in a game? 20%???

It usually depends on game size. For mini-games (7-10), 2 mafia is enough (meaning >20%), for medium-sized games, one out of five suits better (meaning roughly 20%), and for larger games, one out of six seems to be the idea (so slightly less than 20%).

That's my impression, anyway.

By far the most common setting of Mafia games, these games typically use LightFang’s legendary opening write-up.

I've been itching to finally GM M-NotWIII, except I'd make it a simple mafia game instead. I still don't know if my mechanics have ever been done. It'd be a small game with <20 players, I think.

I don't want to sign up for a spot though until I have more of a game written then just my wild imagination.

But it's a hint of things to come!

Zack I will have about 25 players I think - there will be a larger number of mafia than usual I think because the mafia can't kill at night. So maybe reclassify it as a large game (I wrote the mafia roles first so the innocent roles are based around them and I can't reduce the number of mafia players).

If there are any experienced players who are definitely not playing I'd invite you to take a look at my experimental rules game (for feedback) - I'd like you to play the game mostly though! (In fact, the reason I'm trying no night kills is to protect experienced players from metagaming!) I just have to write the backstories for each player.

Sorry, but if it's a large game you'll have to wait a while to start it up since you would be at the back of the waiting list.* I recommend you cut it down to 20 players, since we don't have any upcoming small games. Then you could probably open up sign-ups right away, since it looks like TLO's game isn't going to get enough players.

*Of course, some other players might let you pass them up if you are ready to go right now, but choxorn and I are planning to open up the sign-ups for our game very soon, so the waiting time would still be pretty long.
