Mafia/NOTW Statistics

Well, yeah, the reason I asked is that there's a semi-precedent for not counting them in situations like this, in that there have been one or two times where I haven't, I'm just not sure what exactly the situation is that I shouldn't count them.

Count SK as SK.

So, pretend that Autolycus was never used as a replacement?

Should I count SK as having survived or having not survived?

So, this?

Won: 2 (Jarrema, JoanK)

Lost: 7 (Darth Feather, spaceman98, MartinLuther, Buddhafish, choxorn, Nintz, SouthernKing)

Town: 7 (Darth Feather, spaceman98, MartinLuther, Buddhafish, choxorn, Nintz, SouthernKing)

Mafia: 2 (Jarrema, JoanK)

Survived: 3 (Darth Feather, JoanK, SouthernKing)

You have an error: you say that there are 8 townies but you only list 7, and say that only 7 people lost.

That's what I get for not closely enough fixing my C+P job.

Cirith Ungol NOTW: I'd discussed this already in the thread, and have decided to list it but not to count it for any statistics, due to the lynch system.

To elaborate, like I've said, I'll count split towns that have different ways of voting for the other town, like Autolycus's Only The Strong, but they have to be able to vote for the other town somehow. I can tolerate a bit of lynch weirdness. I'm fine with it not affecting all players the same way, with some abilities making a player harder or impossible to lynch, with some abilities making players vote a certain way, be forced to vote for a certain player or not vote for a certain player. I'm fine with HP systems for the lynch. I'm fine with not all votes counting the same.

But there is a line between "a bit of lynch weirdness" and "unbalanced," and this was a game where there were two halves of the town being basically unable to vote for each other or really affect each other in any way, which is well across that line, as showed especially at the end where one of the factions had nothing but townies left and could do little but vote No Lynch and hope the other faction got it right, and at a few other places. This is almost like it's two separate games that occasionally interact with each other, with the mafia being able to kill the players from both games. If all of the anti-townies are effectively immune from an entire half of the town doing anything at all to them, then something is wrong.

So, that's the gist of my reasoning for my final ruling.

For the hell of it, I asked my stats-calculator program to compute the top stats for neutral players. Presenting: The best of the Neutral!

Most Often Neutral:

6 civplayah
6 Winston Hughes
5 Backwards Logic
5 CCRunner
5 choxorn
5 Nictel
5 Optical
4 Diamondeye
4 landlubber
4 Love
4 sprig
4 topsecret
4 Verarde
3 Buddhafish
3 CivGeneral
3 classical hero
3 Double A
3 Kennigit
3 Seon
3 TheLastOne36

Percentage of Games as Neutral:
*10 games or more

0.238 Backwards Logic (5 in 21 games)
0.211 Diamondeye (4 in 19 games)
0.200 Gone 3 The Celt (2 in 10 games)
0.200 kill fire (2 in 10 games)
0.182 GhostWriter16 (2 in 11 games)
0.182 sprig (4 in 22 games)
0.179 CCRunner (5 in 28 games)
0.176 Double A (3 in 17 games)
0.167 J-Man (2 in 12 games)
0.167 Winston Hughes (6 in 36 games)
0.154 Romanichine (2 in 13 games)
0.147 Optical (5 in 34 games)
0.143 Krill (2 in 14 games)
0.143 SamSniped (2 in 14 games)
0.143 TheLastOne36 (3 in 21 games)

0.125 BigTin (2 in 16 games)

Most Wins as Neutral:

2 Backwards Logic
2 Double A
2 landlubber
2 Nictel
2 Optical

about 30 people have 1 win as a Neutral.

Winning Percentage as Neutral:

1.000 BananaLee (1 win in 1 game)
1.000 CivCube (1 win in 1 game)
1.000 LightFang (1 win in 1 game)
1.000 remake20 (1 win in 1 game)
1.000 robbiecon (1 win in 1 game)
1.000 RRRaskolnikov (1 win in 1 game)
1.000 traius (1 win in 1 game)
1.000 Turquoiside (1 win in 1 game)
0.667 Double A (2 wins in 3 games)
0.500 Dreadnought (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 JoanK (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 kill fire (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 landlubber (2 wins in 4 games)
0.500 Methos (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 Niklas (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 PaulusIII (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 Renata (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 Romanichine (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 SamSniped (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 Tasslehoff (0 wins, 1 draw in 1 game)
0.500 Zack (1 win in 2 games)

You'll notice I didn't bother setting a minimum for the winning percentage, due to the low number of games played as Neutrals. There's only 20 people with 3 or more games as a Neutral, so if I set the minimum to 3, I'll just get those 20 and some of them have a winning percentage of 0. If I set the minimum to 2, I get the following 25 people as having a winning percentage above 0:

0.667 Double A (2 wins in 3 games)
0.500 Dreadnought (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 JoanK (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 kill fire (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 landlubber (2 wins in 4 games)
0.500 Methos (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 Niklas (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 PaulusIII (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 Renata (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 Romanichine (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 SamSniped (1 win in 2 games)
0.500 Zack (1 win in 2 games)
0.400 Backwards Logic (2 wins in 5 games)
0.400 Nictel (2 wins in 5 games)
0.400 Optical (2 wins in 5 games)
0.333 Kennigit (1 win in 3 games)
0.333 Seon (1 win in 3 games)
0.300 CCRunner (1 win, 1 draw in 5 games)
0.250 Diamondeye (1 win in 4 games)
0.250 Love (1 win in 4 games)
0.250 sprig (1 win in 4 games)
0.250 topsecret (1 win in 4 games)
0.250 Verarde (1 win in 4 games)
0.167 civplayah (1 win in 6 games)
0.167 Winston Hughes (1 win in 6 games)

Which is okay, but still not very many players and subject to some extreme tiny sample size.

The times played and percentage as Neutral were mildly informative though, I suppose. I also learned that apparently I'm the only one who has been Neutral 5 times and lost every single time, or for that matter, the only one who has even been Neutral 4 times without winning.

Just say to my wife, hello.
Beige alert.
All my gut is saying is maybe.
I have no strong feelings one way or the other.

What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart of neutrality?

0.667 Double A (2 wins in 3 games)
I'm actually best at something!

Well, yeah, once when I had the minumum games played at 1, and once when I had the minimum at 2. You're not twice in either of the individual lists.

I stumbled across this the other day, and I decided to tweak it (I thought the formula seemed arbitrary, especially including views).

I changed it to the following based on suggestions in that thread (where posts is the total number of posts in the thread, excluding post-game discussion):

Code:
[CENTER] (number of posts) / (number of real-life days the game lasts)
activity constant = ____________________________________________________________

(number of players in the game)[/CENTER]

The idea is that the ideal activity constant (or "activity equilibrium") should be ~1. Games with an activity constant < 1 are less active than the equilibrium, and those with an AC > 1 are more active than the equilibrium.

So if the number of posts for every real-life day the game is played is equal to the number of players in the game, the activity constant = 1 (remember this also includes night phases).

I calculated the AC for the first 19 games when the forum is sorted by most replies, and here are the results (sorted by largest AC to lowest):

None Shall Pass's activity constant is probably artificially inflated, since as the game goes on, the activity tends to decrease due to the declining number of living players.

Nevertheless, it has a good shot at keeping the top spot, seeing the number of posts it already has.

Hey, I have two games as host in the top 20! I feel so popular and loved.

Yes, I've read that. I still feel popular and loved (by people other than you).
