Main Download Information

Do you have a laptop with an integrated graphics card? AND doesn't like running on laptops.
Although it works like a charm on my wife's two years old laptop.

Thanks for asking. I have a regular tower PC with separate monitor. The Windows 7 is the 64 bit version. Fairly higher end graphics card (R9 270 Radeon) and processors (FX 8320 AMD) to run Battlefield 4 smoothly.

@45* and conman,

45* the link for mantuar's overnight builds is only a 952MB file. And's current size is 1.69GB. Something seems to be missing.

conman, if you can, please try the SVN method. You will need to D/L Tortoise and make a Sourceforge acct. The latest TortoiseSVN version is 1.8.8.25755-x64-svn-1.8.10, since you have a 64 bit OS.

I will see if my Dropbox acct will allow me to add a 1.69GB file. If it will I'll upload a link for you conman.

EDIT:@conman,
Here is the link to my dropbox for SVN 788 version of AND. It is compressed using winrar. ~1GB d/l.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/96139352/Rise of Mankind - A New dawn.rar

Edit2: will need approx. 3hrs to finish the upload from my end before you can D/L from the link.

I am checking, but if I had to guess, the installer is compressed (which saves considerable space). I don't think there is a problem.

I am downloading the installer and will manually verify my suspicions.

Edit: Yep, the installer is fine, it is just compressed. The install folder is 1.69GB uncompressed.

When you uncompressed it did it make 2 folders for AND? Or was it the normal 1 folder?

Just tryin' to get a working copy to conman.

My Dropbox link is now active.

Hello all,
I was hoping someone could please help me get ROM:AND to work. I have read the forums for the last few hours, and can’t seem to get further.
Here is what I have: Windows 7, Civ 4 retail CD’s, Civ 4 BTS retail CD’s.
Here is what I have tried:
ATTEMPT #1: Disabled my UAC, then Installed Civ 4 retail CD’s, then installed Civ 4 BTS retail CD’s. I checked the game to make sure it works. It does. Then I downloaded the game via the direct link: DOWNLOAD HERE from http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=344525
(I couldn’t understand the SVN method). After running the download, is said it installed fine. Then I right clicked and Ran as Administrator, and the BTS game loaded. Clicked on Advance, then Load a Mod, then clicked on Rise of Mankind: A New Dawn and the OK. Then the original game vanishes, and after about a minute, the screen flickers, and then nothing. I know something was happening, because I saw BTS running in my processes in the Task Manager. After that screen flicker, the BTS process disappears.

ATTEMPT #2: So I deleted the games using the control panel, and deleted a copy of the BTS file still in program files. With UAC still disabled, I installed both sets of CD disks again. Then I installed an installer program, found posted here http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=528744 by dbkblk
That seemed to go through a new install procedure. But after installing, I tried the new installer window that comes up, but nothing happens when I hit “Launch Civilization 4”. So I then just tried to launch the the normal way, and I can’t even get the normal BTS game to start now.
Please help 
Ron
P.S. I don’t like Civ 5 and 6 seems like it will be worse, so our Civ 4 ROM:AND is my only hope for the best Civ experience.
P.S.S.: Long time member, it says this was my first post. But it must have deleted my old post from 12 years ago, hahahahaha!

Nowhere in there did you mention updating the game to version 3.19. You need to do that. You can not rely on the in-game update button, download the patch .exe file and run it to install it.

Thanks JosEPh_II, I really appreciate it! That is very cool of you to go out of your way to help a fellow Civ'er out. I am downloading now. It will take a while. I will try it out tomorrow. Summer Slam is on now. hehehehehe!

Ouch, I missed that too. Thank you so much for mentioning the version 3.19. Ok, so I will delete everything, and start over. Install Civ 4, then BTS, then find the 3.19 patch somewhere, and then load in the ROM:AND files I am downloading from JosEPh_II.
I will give it a shot and report back tomorrow.

Not too surprisingly the patch is a very popular download. IF you click on the DOwnloads link in the menu bar at thet op of the page you can see it is position #2 in the most popular downloads list on the left. Clicking that takes you to the download page for the patch.

Note that Firaxis no longer hosts the patch file for their own game (somebody over there is a moron), but I think they fixed the main download link on the page to point to the Atomic Gamer hosted download sometime last year. That saved a lot of confusion as that pointed to the Firaxis page for probably a year after it stopped being available from them, then you'd have to hunt through the links across the top of page to find another site that had it (and the first link is to Firaxis, which doesn't work any better the second time you try it).

IMHO, it is a sorry state of affairs when a technology company can not even be bothered to keep their product patches available. I wish I could blame Firaxis, but much of the industry acts the same way, which is why products like Steam became so popular - they take over support/patching for companies that can't be bothered.

Ah well... I digress.

The 3.19 patch can be found on this very site in the downloads section.

Hey guys, I think it's working now. I haven't tested it out fully, but that 3.19 update might have done the trick. I got the game to load, started a game, saved it, shut down, and restarted and the game was in my saved files. So it looks like success. (keeping fingers crossed). It does take about a minute to load after selecting the mod in the advanced section. Is that normal? Like it just shows my normal desktop for a minute until it starts to bring up a window, and load the game.
Also, I think I am close to figuring out the SVN Tortoise thing. I made afolder, and downloaded a bunch of files to it somehow. But for now I will not push it. I will test it out in the coming days to make sure all is working ok. Might have a few more questions, but you guys have done an awesome job helping a civ fanatic out. Kudos to a strong community of players. Thanks dudes!

@conman,
Your very Welcome and Welcome to the forum.

Can I remove that link to my dropbox acct now? ;)

45* could we have the first post updated a bit? Here are my suggestions:

Link to the CFC download page instead of directly to the installer, there is no way to see dl counts if we bypass the CFC download page: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=12838

Make the mod title bigger. Make the download link huge. People want to see that first.

Put the old install links at the bottom. It is too confusing to have multiple download links next to each other.

Less text. Larger font. Possibly a link to the modpack page in the modpacks forum, since that thread contains way more information than here.

I've modified it, see if you like it. I've removed links to AND2.1, they're really not necessary anymore. As for the modpack page, is this the correct one?

If so, I'll add it too.

Looks good, except for the python console instruction.

gc doesn't work in the console, you have to use CyGlobalContext() instead of gc.
