I thinks this is a very weird movie but very funny too.
what do you think of it, does it has a hidden message, was Tim Burton critizicing the US government? the mankind? or the Sci Fi movies?

what do you think?
:)

He is exploring his love for cult 1960's cheesey cinema.
Hence all the stereotypical characters and outlandish design.

I loved it, especially the martian spy girl.

The movie actually pre-dated ID4, but was delayed by CGI issues.
Funny, how people think it was a parody of similar big-budget B-movie flick, ID4

:D

I loved the part where the president is having a press conference to answer questions about the aliens, and a reporter of indeterminate gender stands up and asks him, in a deep voice, "Do they have two sexes, like we do?"

:rotfl:

Imo the doves; it was the worst possible insult.

They were evil from the start

The whole insulting thing was making fun of liberals who attempt to sympathise for the enemy (peacemongers)

They weren't insulted, they were out to conquer from the beginning

when the ,martians go to the congress and outside there are people with messages "NO BIRDS"

I love it, just as I love all of Burton's flicks (especially The Nightmare Before Christmas). Burton is, together with Terry Gilliam, my favourite director for visual feeling.

what I still find hard to realize is tha fact that many important actors appeared in that movie
Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Pirce Brosnan, Danny DeVito, Martin Short, Michael J Fox, the guy who sings....are too many!!!
have you ever seen another movie with so many good actors in a freak movie???

@LV
yeah, The nightmare before Christmas is one of my favorites movies ever, have you seen the shortfilm after the movie "Vincent"?
amazing!

No, I've never even heard of it. But now that you've mentioned it, I probably will some day.

I read in the 'how they made Mars Attacks' book that the martian girl's (Lisa Marie) hair was real, and took 8 hours to do!

Holy toledo! Get a wig and save 8 hours of your life!

She was mucho sexy in that dress though!

It was a parody of a 1950's movie about Martians - wasn't meant to be serious in any way.

Anyone who has any of the 1960's Topps cards will know this franchise's pedigree of pure cheese!

This movie always seemed like a giant inside joke by Hollywood. Absolutely everyone was in on it, and we mere civilians can only guess about how it came to be. ;)

I one thing in the movie - Jack Nicholson gets blown up by aliens, and it's quite funny that he plays your president (yep, directeted to all of the americans). Also laughed when the aliens blow up some congressmen (or whatever).

But in overall this movie isn't very good. One big downsize is the fact that Tom Jones is in the movie. He can't act at all.

The only scenes I find funny is the one when the Martians starts shooting up the US Congress. They had some cool ray guns too, vaporizes the flesh from the bones.
