Mass Effect 3

It looks like a reaper. Like it was designed to be Harbinger's throne room; which it probably was because the Citadel was built by reapers.
Yeah, this isn't news.

Doesn't explain why the Citadel was built with doors and pathways best accommodating bipedal humanoids, but heyyyy

Cause reapers assume direct control, like they did with Saren, who incidentally was fought in that room?

And now for something completely different.

Is the N7 edition the "ultimate" edition bioware was talking about on its forums a while back?

It's the only collector's edition there will be for the game. Silverman and Houston tossed around an "uber edition" that was supposed to compare in sheer gimmickry to the Call of Duty night vision goggles thing and the Halo 3 Legendary Edition, but apparently it was decided that it wouldn't be a breadwinner.

Oh. Well, that's a little disappointing- I wanted a Model Normandy or Geth Head Desk Light or Harbinger Alarm Clock or whatever they would have ended up putting in.

Yeah, the geth head desk lamp would've been awesome. Too bad.

So this is how Mass Effect 3's Jacob looks like.

The newest addition to the Normandy crew knows how to fight, but that's about it.

To celebrate reaching 10,000 followers on Twitter, BioWare's Casey Hudson shared a picture of a new character that will be joining Shepard's crew in Mass Effect 3, James Vega.

Vega is apparently intended to represent someone new to the story. While he is a seasoned soldier, he lacks the knowledge of galactic politics and the criminal underworld that Shepard and the rest of the crew of the Normandy possess. Vega was originally called James Sanders, but obviously BioWare has since changed that.

Fan reaction to the image has been rather mixed, with some saying that Vega would look more at home on the Jersey Shore than fighting the Reapers in space. At least one suggested that he was a subtle dig at games like Gears of War and their fans. Others are taking a more cautious tack, saying that judging the character based on a single picture is a mistake and that people should wait until they know more about him before they dismiss him outright.

On Twitter, Hudson said that he enjoyed seeing people's first impressions of Vega. He said that BioWare had fun with the ensemble cast in its games, adding that not every character was going to be a hit with every player.

Personally, I fall into the "wait and see" camp. Sure, Vega looks like a meathead, but by the sound of things, that's kind of the point - or at least part of it. He's supposed to have a much more simple understanding of the situation, and he's supposed to stand out from the rest of the Normandy crew because of it.

It will also be interesting to see if he's going to be one of the homosexual love interests in Mass Effect 3, or if that role belong to a different character, or indeed, characters.

We haven't seen Jacob yet. That's Vega.

No, I used "Jacob" as a pejorative. I easily found him the most boring character in ME2.

He could be the funniest wisecracker in the history of BioWare games. You can say his design his boring but we don't know if his character it.

Fair enough. But it wasn't just his design. It was also the fact that he wouldn't give interesting insights, on account of lacking knowledge of galactic events.

The Illusive Man put Jacob on the team because of his steady temperament. That was his emotional niche, the somewhat bland guy who has your back.

So this is how Mass Effect 3's Jacob looks like.

Oh Good Lord !
He's the gay option isn't he ? He kind of looks gay. I'm not using gay as a generic pejorative. He has the eyes, the nose and the lips that I associate wuth a homosexual man plus the completely idiotic haircut and neck tattoo of a stereotypical metrosexual tough guy.
So that's what it has come too ? I shouldn't be too surprised after Bioware inflicted Fenris on Dragon Age 2.
I hope this is the only case of horrible character design in the game and there's other paty members who can fill his role so I can safely ignore him.

BioWare has given no information on Vega's sexual orientation or whether he will be a potential love interest.

Although if you think that "generic Hispanic military type" looks gay, I gotta laugh

Regarding Shepard's status as a Spectre:

In Mass Effect 2, if you imported a save where the Council was saved, Shepard could go to the embassy and have his Spectre status reinstated. I always did this. My question is, if you don't do this, what happens in the two cutscenes where Shepard calls himself a Spectre? (When dealing with the quarian accused of pick-pocketing on the Citadel, and dealing with the mob boss during Thane's loyalty mission.) Does he still call himself a Spectre if you don't get reinstated? If so, will having done that be a thing that's imported into ME3?

I'm fairly sure that if he isn't re-Spectre-fied, he just says he's a former Spectre. It sounds like something that could be carried over into ME3.

No, that's pretty much a gay/metrosexual look/pose he's got going there. At least that is how it would perceived round these parts. He's a few hair spikes short of the tanned guido look.

So I figure this might be the place to ask: I bought Mass Effect 1 and 2 from the recent Steam sale, since I've always had a bit of a thing for Bioware games and Mass Effect 2 was getting such great reviews. I've tried and tried and tried with the first game but I've had to admit defeat about halfway through because it's just so tedious and awful. If I don't like the first one, is it still worth trying with the second? If so, is it worth slogging through the rest of the first game to get up to speed or does the second one stand alone okay?
