lets not forget that masicher *forgot its name*

the mormons whear allied with native americans, and a wagon train was passing throw morman lands. the natives atacked it, but the mormons came to the wagon train and offed them a deal, if thay hand over ther guns, and half ther suplies thay will get the natives to let them go. so the setliers agree. thay have the men blind folded, as to suposedly not give ther location away, and marched them off. the wemen and kids whear taken another way.. the thang is. the men, now with no guns, whear lead off and killed by the mormons.

You just described treatment of native Americans by most settlers. The Mormons are no more or less guilty than anyone else.

why do they feel the need to interupt me at dinner time trying to sell me a religion that won't let me drink, swear, smoke, sleep-in on sunday, blaspheme, watch naughty videos, engage in premarital sex, or even have more than one wife anymore? That's meant as a joke, but seriously is there a specific religious requirement that requires you to go door to door preaching?

What are the main differences between mormanism and mainstream protestants?

Can I get a brief summary of what happens in the book of mormon?

And yes, I know some Mormons. In fact I grew up with a friend who was Mormon...

Same here, I've had neighbors that were Mormons. They were unusually nice, and now I have neighbors that are Pastors of a local Lutheran Church.

@ Matt: I have nothing against Mormons, so not everyone here is against you. ;)

Are the rumors that mormons believe that God (Jehova, Yahwe) is actually an alien from another world with great powers, but there are other aliens like him, and that we can become God-Aliens and rule our own planet ourselves?
2. Do they believe in re-incarnation? Do the Mormons believe that the Bible is the Word of God and thus the Book of Mormon does not replace it, but complement it? Or is it like the muslims which view the Bible as the Word of God, but that over time it has become corrupted, so therefore the Koran is to replace the Bible as the True Word of God?

1) are there rumors of god being an alien? maybe. are they true? hell no. im not really sure where people get these.

2) no to re-incarnation. yes to the bible being the word of God.

Those things aren't good for you anyhow Matt, in the long run - its better to just avoid that.

Edit: I was saying this in reference to your response to Perfection's post.

Not quite true - it's more like 100 years (IIRC 1894 was when it was outlawed so that Utah could become a state). The early Mormon church "reinstated" polygamy because it was a quick way to promote population growth, something the small early Mormon church wanted in order to maintain their political hold on the Utah/Deseret region.

I was incorrect about the date. I just checked, 1894 is correct. Cant verify thats the reason though...also heard there were tax reasons for it, and there was a huge male shortage (a large band left to fight in the spanish american war)

also, the mormons werent the only ones practicing polygamy in the country at the time....the goverment had a large-scale anti-polygamy policy at the time.

@ Homie: No, they're nice too. Their landscaping leaves a little to be desired though. Letting a 1/4 acre field grow wild, and we get thousands of grasshoppers and dandelions swarming our lawn and I get stuck pulling them.

Didn't think they were true, unfortunately many people spread such filth about you, many Christians too, that's what they have heard and they don't know any better.

I haven't known any mormons myself, but the ones I have met seem nice, and they share the importance of Christ. But to be honest, I consider your faith a false one, founded by a false prophet.

Btw, is it not hard to get aquainted with the scriptures when you have so much? I think the Bible is a handfull, and you have the book of mormon to boot, how do you handle all that holy scripture?

most males 19-21 go on two year missions to somewhere in the world to preach and do community service. I will likely be leaving CFC in 8 months or so to do this myself.

there are lots of differences...i'd encourage you to check out a few of the links i posted. i'll go more in depth in a little bit

Why on earth would they come to Indiana then? Sure we hoosiers may not be the most advanced folk but I'm pretty sure there are those in much greater need.

Where are you going to be a Missionary? I went on a short Missionary trip to Fiji, which is where I met some mormons. Me and my team actually lived really close to a mormon temple, it looked pretty spectacular. Me and a buddy from the team went and played basketball on the hoop outside in their school courtyard, but they came and told us to leave :(. But it was their property so they had every right to do so.
