mb1 20K double whammy

I was just wondering if any one would be able to post a screenie. I'm here at work and unfortunately, I would get fired if I installed Civ at work. Imagine that.

As Ted said, the uploads server is down, so you'll have to try to extract it from this and use a graphics package to view. :(

Wow, it turns out that my company doesn't even trust me enough to install an Unzip program on my computer! I don't think calling IT to get them to install it, just so I can unzip Civ files would be OK with our internet policy ;) Oh well, I guess I can wait until I get home. :(

edit: @space: Yeah, I'm a big cycling fan. I've been racing mtb Dual for 6 years now. I was provincal champion up until I tore my ACL. So, I've been riding my road bike and my XC bike ever since. I just starting following the tour last year, so I still don't know a lot about it because it is hard to get info over here.

We do have one channel that shows the tour everyday, but it is hard to get info on the Tour. I think there was an article in the newspaper on Monday, for Lance's win, but nothing during the tour. Quite pathetic really. The internet is our best source if we don't want to get up at 4:00 in the morning to catch the live coverage on TV.

Does anyone know the break down of dates relative to turns? Like at what point it goes form 50 years per turn to 20 years per turn? I remember seeing it posted somewhere, but I can’t for the life of me remember where. The reason I ask is because I have an idea for an Excel worksheet that could calculate past, present, and future culture. The dates would be needed for doubling bonuses.

I have something already.
In fact, I had started a similar thing myself some time ago, but never went back to check it and give it the final touch (that's why I posted that I could do something for that calculation... ;) ).

This is the Excel file I prepared. See if it can be of some use, or if it is correct at all!

EDIT: There are no comments, and a test on only one city. PM me if you have questions or corrections.

Hi guys,

Just to let you know that I'm away this weekend from the 1st Aug to the 4th Aug inclusive.

Please autoskip me until the 5th Aug.

Server up again + no updates = here is the screenshot of my last turn

Quick reaction: Are those pearls near the fish but on the land???!!! Some leftover GOTM stuff?. I have to look in to that myself as well. Have you figured out how to switch those?
Looks like good land and there's more under the fog I bet. :)

Yeeeees. Imagine my face when I saw the Oyster on the grassland! (well, actually it was the coal instead of the furs...). :crazyeye:

Getting back to the original resources should be easy (you should have a copy in a dedicated folder); anyway, it is explained in the readme file.
I didn't change the GOTM settings because:
a. I am too lazy
b. I still had to finish GOTM21
c. AOB

I too am lazy, that's why I haven't looked at the readme yet. The need hasn't come up and the readme is always very wordy. I saw your report and figured belately how busy you must have been. I was not meant as a complaint.
Like I posted in the GOTM thread I will post some details and maps of my game so you'll be able to compare (and gloat :D).

Yes, it is wordy! but it is also very clear (you never know, Cracker may be reading this thread... ;) )

Don't worry, I didn't even dream about taking that as a complaint. But... why should I gloat? Wait. I'll check the GOTM thread!

2550: move workers around

2510: explre more. Find wines N of Canton

2470: not much

2430: same

2390: zzzzz

2350: pop a hut, get a conscript warrior

2310: pop anopther hut, get 25 gold

2270: i find the russians. They are catiuos towards us. They have IW on us and we have mysticism on them. We also have lot more gold and 1 city up on them

2230: move round

2190: same

I make some decisions, which may be controversial. First, i decided not to trade with Russia. We need to hold mysticism, we dont want them to get the oracle.
Second, Canton is due to grow in 5 turns, and granary in 11....... I decided to continue both wonders in Bejing and Shanghai. These decisions can be vetoed by the next leader, however.....

My gut feeling is to switch Canton from Granary to Settler.

If we're to continue Wonder production in Bejing & Shanghai (which I believe is the right way to go) then we desperately need some happiness modifiers in the shape of garrison troops and luxuries. I feel we should settle either the Wines or the Furs (preferably both) before attempting the Granary in Canton.

Switching now will give us a Settler in 1 turn with no waste:

After

We also need to get some culture in Canton as it can't reach +5fpt (Game tile) until it's border expands.

<edit>
Forgot to say that the pop for the Settler would come from joining the Worker to Canton.
But I'm sure you all worked that out :)

Uhh..., isn't Canton too small to produce a settler right now? I agree on the urgency to keep expanding, but we'll have to be patient *if* we want to keep producing the Wonders.

edit: Missed the part of the worker obviously :).

We could join the Worker to make up the pop needed. I was editing my post while you posted :)

It wasn't so much the expansion I was worried about as the upcoming happiness problems in Bejing & Shanghai and the lack of military/workers.

I don't claim my suggestions are the only way forward. They're just my suggestions :)

I tried to do a bit of thinking (not too much, I haven't got that many neurons, you know... ;) ).

Keeping Beijing and Shanghai on the Wonders seems the way to go to me too. Whether Shanghai should go for the Pyramids, or switched to Oracle is open to discussion.

In this respect, I think it was a good thing not to trade Mysticism to Germany right now.

What about Canton?

The Granary could be pop-rushed in 3 turns. If we started a Settler then, it would come out about 9-10 turns later.
The advantage is that after building the Granary we would get a steady supply of workers / settlers (and I like granaries).
Disadvantages: no border expansion, we would get to the luxuries relatively late, no military units.

The biggest advantage of building the Settler now is that we would have another city that we could dedicate to building units and possibly a worker, while Canton grows back from pop 1 and builds Granary or Temple.
I would go for it, even if I am not too happy with loosing a worker.

In fact, Canton could start on a Temple after the Settler (with a worker in between? I didn't check this). The Temple could be pop-rushed in about 12-13 turns, and if we irrigate the Game in the meantime, we may not even need a Granary (at least in the short term).
It would be important to work the second BG next to Canton, though.

Other thoughts?
